I was running by the statue and happened to notice the symbols. Some of them are the same and they don’t appear to be in any any repeating/periodic fashion. They also appear in segments of different length. From those observations, I am assuming that they do have a meaning. Does anyone know if they mean anything? Here’s a picture, in case you don’t know what I’m talking about:

You’re right. The language is “New Krytan” and was established as the official language in 1105AE which is 220 years ago from our characters’ points of view. As an aside, it was established by the Durmond Priory (one of the three orders your character may join during their personal story to battle the Elder Dragons) and they were founded in the Shiverpeaks in the same year.

They mean something all right. They are four words. You can find the alphabet (it’s a simple letter-letter substitution) on the wiki.

Given artistic flair, sometimes the letters looks slightly different, I’ve found. If you want to translate it yourself then stop reading right now.

Otherwise, the translation is: “From Ruin We Prosper”

You will notice the Moram Memorial near the Sanctum Harbor waypoint in Lion’s Arch is a statue with many of the same symbols on it. One is a plaque of a sort that I took great delight in translating. The rest are names of NPCs.

Thank you very much! Now that you mention it, I have seen the language on other stones, but the text was always too small for me. Thanks again!

At the moment it still says “Welcome to Madness”!

Nobody at Anet loves WvW like Grouch loved PvP. That’s what we need, a WvW Grouch, but taller.

Also you will find Ascalonian in the game, which is very different from Krytan or New Krytan. You can find Ascalonian around Ebonhawke or areas that have a strong separatist presence.

Currently we know of 3 languages used in Tyria: New Krytan, Ascalonian, and a currently unnamed asuran script. There may be others yet to be translated as well.
