Q:

Is their any mention of the fate of the hero from guild wars 1? I noticed a few graves stones in the shiverpeaks and npcs in Ruiktown that has tied to the henchmen from guild wars 1. Ogden of course, but not 1 mention of the hero from guild wars 1.

A:

What Glint says is:

“Three hundred years ago, I welcomed heroes such as yourselves, hailing them as the Chosen who would destroy the titans and save the world. But did they remember? Did not the very heroes that I sent return to battle me again?”

There is no indication that they died, just that they returned.

Later she also says:

“But three hundred years ago, the dragons’ bellies were empty, and their minds were awakening. Three hundred years ago, the sons of men fought me before they understood that I was their ally.”

To me, this sounds like the never-made Elona arc for Beyond was going to bring us back to meet Glint, and introduce the Elder Dragon threat to the Order of Whispers (they knew, somehow, before all others did), rather than a nod to The Dragon’s Lair bonus objective.

Either way, no hint or mention of the GW1 heroes’ death.

I recall that Anet didn’t want to bring Beyond to cover the Foefire specifically because they wanted to leave the fate of the GW1 hero open ended, for players to decide for themselves what happens to their character, and covering the Foefire in GW1 would prevent such. So long as Anet keeps that viewpoint, we won’t learn what happened to the PCs from GW1 (I stand to believe that there were three, not one – one per campaign – as that makes the most sense given the starter missions and Young Heroes of Tyria ).

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

There is no mention of the PC from Guild Wars 1, at least from the perspective of their final fate. I have to hope that it is intentional, allowing players to have their own personal stories.

I personally think a lot of them volunteered to become the Exalted we meet in the jungle. They did work very closely with Glint, after all

I remember a time when I ran into a random NPC dialogue saying they just recently discovered a Scoll containing recorded History of a Person who completed the Flame Seeker Prophecy, Stopped Shiro, and Prevented Nightfall which refers to the GW1 Hero. Judging by how this discover is considered recent and ground breaking it also implies the GW1 Hero was forgotten by history and only Devona and her companions (who where all henchmen) took the GW1 players place in these events of recorded history due to Historians only recording them and being unable to know about the existance of GW1 Hero.

We’re actually mentioned in Rurikton in that place with a bunch of Scholars hanging around the Plaza of Kormir.

Conversation between two scholars
Scholar: Find anything good?
Scholar (2): Yes! I found some rather remarkable scrolls about a group of adventurers some centuries ago.
Scholar (2): They escaped Ascalon right before the Searing, crossed the Kingdom of Kryta, joined and betrayed the White Mantle, and even faced a lich lord!
Scholar: Wow. Maybe someday, we’ll meet heroes like that.

I think it was hinted (but somewhat vaguely) in Edge of Destiny that the heroes from GW1 might have died coming back to do the bonus mission for The Dragon’s Lair. Before Glint got killed, she spoke to Destiny’s Edge about heroes who came back to kill her and failed.
Some might argue that it could have been some other group of adventurers, but others would probably argue that Glint isn’t likely to entertain guests all that often, given how hard it is to find her lair.

Then again, it was probably Anet’s intention to leave that part of history blank so you could make your own story for your own character. For all anyone is concerned, you could have just taken a 250+ year nap.

Thank you for the replies, i was hoping to get some mention of them since i liked the storyline in GW1, factions and nightfall. I did notice i never did find graves for Cynn, Mhenlo, Devona and Aiden. Maybe the hero’s grave will be with theirs?

I like that they left it open-ended because it enabled me to make up my own ‘endings’ for my various characters. Otherwise they’d probably all have had the same story. Or maybe 1 per campaign, but even then I’d have repeats. (I had 10 characters in GW1.)
