What happened to Livia?
I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anyone that just looked in the thread that didn’t want to find out.
She shows up in the company of Prince Edair of Kryta, a self appointed protector of the ruler of Kryta. Cobiah knows this, recognizes her name, and knows she’s been around for generations. The book states that there’s rumors surrounding how she’s still alive (from selling her soul to be a lich to sacrificing prisoners).
But we get no answer as to exactly how she’s been alive this long or what exactly she’s been up to other than helping out the Krytan royals.

On top of what Maethor said,
She acts as the leader of the Shining Blade during the book. Given Anise’s title, it’s possible something happened to her in the past 70 years.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Alright thank you for the information!

Or perhaps Anise is simply a front. She’s capable and skilled, to be sure, but maybe Livia is still pulling the strings from behind the scenes, and just put Anise up there to deflect suspicion, and well-founded concern, about having a human live for so long.
… maybe she is a golem, after all necromancy and golemancy were destined to collide.
She did have Zinn and Blimm “working” for her for a while.
She could also be a ghost like http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bria
my theory:
maybe after the events of SoS, Edair banished her for letting coby and the gang free (even though they saved their asses), kinda like Stannis with the onion knight: "thanks for the save, but you are a smuggler and i'll chop ya fingers kitten". and since King Baede was already pretty much facing death, he couldn't unbanish livia. so, instead of killing livia, he just banishes her from the shining blade or kryta
Or she died. But we never pick the easy answer do we?
she lived till now, why would she suddenly die? =(
I don’t know, generally that’s what people do after a while. Especially very old people are susceptible to that.
To quote a guy with impeccable taste in dressing gowns:
“That’s a very good question…”
Or mayble Anise is Livia , mayble Livia learned a second prof , like in gw1…

The bloodline okitteng Baede never really pulls the strings, the Shining Blade do in reality. She might’ve twisted Edair’s arm a bit, but Edair did agree to Lion’s Arch independence and a treaty between the two. As she didn’t die at the end of the book or during, somethat that was being spread on the forums, I can only assume she is alive. She’s a very powerful Necromancer, which the book proved and already lived a long time when Coby met her. It’s a sure possibility she still is working behind the screens.

This seems the most likely. If you guys can think back to that story several months ago, Marjory’s Story Part 2. There was a necromancer that shot at the ghost boy, and made him disintegrate after stating something that many people have speculated is Spectral Agony. This is something that Livia has strong knowledge in and might be focusing on, while Anise focuses on running the Shining Blade, Livia is hunting down Mursaat and the White Mantle. That necromancer that shot the ghost in Marjory's Story? Livia.
Commander in Tarnished Coast
The Necromancer who sent the boy’s spirit to the Mists was given a name: Kraig the Bleak; a man at that.
So I doubt that guy is Livia.
And the name implies it was a norn (at least Kraig sounds like a norn name).
Then again, Mister E could have been covering for the necromancer and lied about the name…

She fell down the stairs.
Maybe Anise is a disguise… The whole 2 professions thing isn’t around anymore, but what if sometime between then and now she learned mesmer skills? Or maybe Queen Jennahs doing the disguise for her.
To add on to what “Beetle.2476” stated;
Anise has the ability to transform people (One of the stories, she transforms your PC into a bandit) so I wouldn’t completely rule out Anise is actually Livia, but staying out of the “spotlight” for a reason yet unknown.
I would also say the writer of SoS (Ree) is a master of GW Lore. I doubt she would stick Livia into the story without some explanation or reasoning behind it.
I would keep a keen eye and ear out, cause I wouldn’t be suprised if she makes an appearance in GW2.
Maybe Livia, Evennia and Anise are a group of 300 years old mages that are acting as secret guardians to Kryta and humanity. Read my fan fiction.

From the end of The Apothecary.
Anise: Don’t worry. My magic can disguise you as a common bandit. You can walk among them, and they’ll never know it’s you.
Logan Thackeray: We’ll give you the location of their hideout. It’s dangerous, but if you’re willing, I know you can handle it.
(Character name) Consider it done. I want to put Two-Blade Pete out of business even more than you do.
Countess Anise: Very well, then. I’ll cast it on you now, but the disguise won’t activate until you’re close to the bandit headquarters.
Countess Anise: Stand still for a moment, and I’ll place the enchantment on you.
i have a very strong hunch that the ‘magic wand’ she found at the end of eotn has something to do with her long life, or maybe she received instructions/made a deal with grenthy before the gods cut off communication, she could be his last ‘champion’

its the scepter of orr that was lost when the gates of komali were deactivated.
What if the mysterious E, is Edair? He was quite young in SoS…the youngest of the king’s children, if I remember correctly. It would make him an old man now…but maybe.

blew my mind.
Also, I may be missing something in the timeline, but there seems to be a gap in information between when Prince Edair was in line for the throne of Kryta after Baede when they were attacked before his corronation…and Queen Jenna now being Queen of Kryta.
What if E is Edair and Livia is still with him…maybe the pair know something that us as players do not know about Queen Jennah yet and that is why he’s suddenly trying to get our attention…perhaps they were forced into hiding until the right moment presented itself.

I know its a ban for me for this, but I wanted to say good job to those who put together these pieces of the story 3 years ago. Good job Anet for tying up some loose ends.
Yeah it’s nice to see this mystery answered. Livia made a good comeback. One of my Guild Wars 2 characters is supposed to be one of my Guild Wars 1 characters from way back then, so it’s great to see a canon character who’s also pretty old :P
what if Anise is Livia’s daughter? The tone between the two is suggestive of such a relation, and why would Lazarus bring up the question whether she has any children, other than the writers giving us a tiny clue veiled by Lazarus’ threat to kill Livia and end her blood line.

Why would Lazarus ask if Livia has children? Same reason he said this in GW1:
Lazarus the Dire: “Accursed human! You have done this to me! I will not forget this!”
Lazarus the Dire: “Countless generations will suffer for your actions this day!”
Lazarus is just the kind of guy who would not end his revenge at a single death. They just carried this trend.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
That’s unlikely, Dondarrion, as Livia says she had no children when Lazarus asked. Admittedly, she could have lied to her nemesis, but if she truly intended to kill him, what motive would she have to lie?
Also, hurray for thread necromancy! Appropriate for a thread about Livia, I suppose.

Yea, I saw I was bumping but luckily the guy before me bumped it even more
Felt like appropriate thread to keep asking about Livia and Anise.
To your question; intent on killing doesn’t mean you automatically will succeed, perhaps if Livia considered not surviving the confrontation, she would at least protect any possible children she might have. If you’re facing your nemesis/adversary and they ask you if you have children, would you blurt out their names and address so they could go to finish them off too in case you didn’t make it?
Just seemed like a question out of place for Lazarus to ask, if like Konig suggests, his intention was that his revenge should have consequences to more than one individual.
