To deserve the same treatment as the Dragon Lieutenants and the giant bosses in the achievements section? She doesn’t seem so special to me.

There are big event chains that doesn’t get the Boss Achievement treatmen, including defeating Ulgoth, the centaur leader who presents a long battle and summons the same Giant Elemental from Human Tutorial. That’s a boss as huge as the other 2 giant elementals (both in the achievements), in a very important chain (defeating the leaders of the Centaur invaders that are a constant menace to Kryta), and it doesn’t get the Achievement treatment, but this Taidha Covington is important enough to get it.

I’m missing something about her? Is she really important for the story of the game and I didn’t see it? What has she done to deserve that treatment over other candidates? Her fight is hard, and she has her own “fortress” and all, but I don’t know how is she in the same category of the colossal sized bosses so if anyone knows any piece of lore about her to illustrate me I would like to know what’s going on with her

Honestly, when I read the achievement the first time, I though it would be something related to the laboratory the Inquest have in Orr, like some kind of experiment gone wild with a huge monster (Hydra Queen) scaping.

Yeah, me too, that’s why I thoug maybe the Inquest had some of them captured and where experimenting with them or something, because they’re no longer in the (current) game.

I gotta say, I was personally hoping it would be one of those 3 headed pains in my butt as well. I kinda miss the little guys. That being said, her naming gives me hope that some still live, prolly in the Crystal Desert and the Ring of Fire islands.

The only thing that makes her special is the fact that she attempted and ultimately failed to commandeer Peter the Lost’s ship, the Capricorn.

I somehow got the impression that she had history with Lion’s Arch’s Captain’s Council, but now that I go back over NPC dialogue, Peter the Lost’s reference is the only one I could find. At any rate, she’s a pirate captain of some notoriety, and not entirely popular even among other pirates it seems.

I don’t think she’s super important to the lore, although there’s still time for ArenaNet to do something with her. The boss achievements only relate to a handful of the bosses in the world, though – she was just one of the lucky ones who got picked, I guess, or someone at ArenaNet thought that her fight was particularly difficult or particularly worth doing.

I checked Captain Peter the Lost story, interesting story, but that’s all. Taidha isn’t that special of a character (it may have been if the Capricorn ghost ship would’ve been involved in the event). Honestly I don’t think she should’ve made the list to achievement bosses with other candidates (like Ulgoth+Colossal Earth Elemental like I said).

Maybe it’s an error that she’s considered for this achievment or something and really it was meant for a different boss?

I seriously doubt it was an error. The list isn’t necessarily the biggest and badest bosses in the game, nor the most difficult, nor the most popular. For all we know they added her to the list precisely because her meta-event was less popular than Ulgoth’s one in Harathi Hinterlands (which is run almost constantly as I understand it!), and they wanted to give people a reason to go and do this one.

If you pay attention to the nearby hearts, you’d learn that Taidha is a commander of multiple pirate fleets (basically every pirate in Bloodtide Coast and then some, sans the one pirate captain which the Order of Whispers wants to replace Taidha with because he’s easy to manipulate), a huge thorn in the side of the Lionguard, a target for the Order of Whispers, and an overall kitten apparently.

She’s basically Tyria’s version of Blackbeard.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Bacially the “leader” of one of the armies that are troubling Tyria. I can accept that (though her fight could’ve been a bit more interesting), but then Ulgoth should be considered for the list too IMO and the Centaurs are usually causing more trouble than the Pirates.

This is sounding more like “why doesn’t Ulgoth have an achievement” rather than “what’s the story behind Taidha” now. :P

It’s likely that they’re going to add more Boss category achievements (I can see some for the Jade Maw, Ulgoth, and quite a few others).

In fact I wasn’t being pro-Ulgoth when I started writting this, it was the first example of something comaparable I found and I guess I repeated it way too much.

It’s more about finding Taidha to be a league inferior to the other bosses, who are colossal creatures (with special HP bars designs for huge creatures, with the exception of the Ice Elemental as you never fight him). And because of that I wanted to know what feats she had to deserve the treatment. I wasn’t sure about putting it in the lore forum but as I wanted to know information and history about her, I though it was the better place.

As I said, if she really is commanding most of the pirate fleet, then I can accept beating her to be considered an achievement, but then there are others who would deserve it (like the temples in Orr or Ulgoth) because of the impact they have.

Well, in regards to the temple metas, they have their own reward (making Orr easier), so I don’t think an achievement per temple is really needed (maybe one for defeating each priest + the High Wizard at Gates of Arah).

I don’t think Taidha got an achievement because she’s above the others, but rather that the others don’t need such for people to go fight her – and the dragons got one because they’re just freakin’ dragons.
