1. Alliances made by Scarlet. As well as Nightmare Court and Krait/Aetherblades and Inquest. You can go more in depth on them with the summaries.
2. An evil crazy salad bent on destroying the world as we know it, or used to know it at least.
3. Scarlet finishing her long term plan, which is locating something underneath Lion’s Arch.
4. New WvW map.

To kind of elaborate on the Scarlet bit, she is (well, was) a supergenius sylvari who was driven into Joker-style insanity after an asuran experiment exposed her mind to the voice of a malevolent entity, widely believed by the playerbase to be the sixth Elder Dragon, Mordremoth. The entire living story has centered around her plots, one of which was waking Mordremoth, which required reaching the magic that just so happens to be flowing under Lion’s Arch- thus the attack and the giant drill. She used her supposedly silver tongue to amass armies to fulfill her manpower and technology needs- the alliances Elu mentioned, plus a repurposed model of human-made robots that she stole from Kryta.

You’ll call me cynical by the end of this post but I can’t say you missed much. >.>
Oh but you did miss the zerg, zerg and more zergs. But don’t worry, I’m sure there are plenty more cluster kittens for you to enjoy sometime in the future.
Also an in your face lesbian kissing scene right at the end if you’re into that kind of thing.
Did I mention zergs? Also IMO no real likeable characters. Seriously, if they all died my Gw2 world would keep on turning.

I was completely vague as to not spoil it for him, but pretty much this is the synopsis you would be looking for.
The story?
Someone destroyed Lion’s Arch (again), three large clockwork knights are present which represent three branches of asuran studies and thus it means Rata Sum has to be behind it.
So I’m off to go return the favor.
