What's up with the shattered hedge?
I’m just going to copy paste from the wiki because I’m feeling lazy. Basically, it is the Inquests new version of the Thaumanova Reactor Core.
“Thaumanova Reactor is the location of a ruined asuran city in northwest Metrica Province. It was recently destroyed by an Inquest experiment gone awry, occurring beneath the city and the reactor exploding and subsequently releasing chaos magic. Due to the large amount of chaos magic in the area, creatures from across the continent get transported in and out of the area. The Thaumanova Reactor is divided into five main sections: the southwest which has been turned arctic, the southeast which has become poisonous, the northeast and lower area containing the river with an aquatic aspect, the north which contains fire-based creatures, and the central, the location of the explosion. After the explosion, the energy source that the Inquest was experimenting on was moved to the Thaumacore Inquiry Center in Toxal Bog, causing the chaos effect to spread northward. This effects of the underground experiment also affected other areas such as Chaos Crystal Cavern in Iron Marches.”
^— It’s this last bit here that talks about what’s going on around the shattered henge.
That bit addresses the chaos magic. As to the druid husks- to be honest, that’s a bit of a mystery. I don’t know rather there’s anything in the game that explains them.
“The Henge of Denravi was once a sacred meeting place for the druids of the Maguuma Jungle. It fell into disuse after the druids mysteriously disappeared more than a decade ago. The only way to enter the Henge is to be granted access through the Henge Gate, and only those who have already been to Denravi can find their way back.”

“The Druids were a group of Krytan humans that long ago moved to the Maguuma Jungle in order to live with nature. It is said that they are devout followers of Melandru, though this is only rumors. According to the History of Tyria, they were forced out of jungles in the long distant past by other humans. They were last seen by others sometime before 982 AE and mysteriously vanished decades before 1072 AE. Although generally believed to have been killed off by the jungle’s predatory plants and animals, the Druids actually shed their physical bodies to become one with nature. The Druids now exist as spirits, appearing similar to Oakhearts.”

These should explain it. Bits of lore that would only make real sense if you’ve played Prophecies.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
The only confusing part of this whole thing is the fact that in GW1 there was no sign of the physical forms of the druids, especially in the Henge of Denravi, yet now in GW2 they have appeared again.
The husks might possibly have been buried underground via silt deposited by regular flooding, and they’ve only been revealed/excavated in recent years. The fact that they’re below the level of the Denravi fountain (which was at ground level and surrounded by earth in GW1) could support that theory.
Chances are it’s Yivo from Futurama. Expect to see a bunch of Tentacles coming out of that rift soon.
