What would happen if the pale tree died?
We can see an ancient pale tree in the new zone, they seen to coincide with the dragons waking from the little I have seen. If it dies the magic it holds would be fair game to the dragons.
In the race select screen, the option to make our new characters Sylvari will be removed.
Maybe Trahearne would die…?
i would sit there and roast marshmallows over its burning husk……..oh, this thread is about what would happen in a lore sense? i dunno, sylvari commit mass suicide? one can hope
Sylvari would become more aggressive because the Pale Tree uses the Dream to shield the Sylvari from their Dark Side. Without the Dream/Pale Tree they all go crazy like Scarlet or become corrupted Sylvari serving Mordremoth.

I would be sitting next to you. Don’t worry I’ll bring my own marshmallows.

I like the way you think.
The philosophical implications of an orphaned race, neutered, without a home or purpose, are very large. Hopefully the designers realize they could never get to grips with it and never go down that story line.
Uh. They would get corrupted by Mordremoth because it is specifically stated that’s what would happen if the Pale Tree wasn’t currently present/what happens if you go Soundless and aren’t strong enough.
Nothing. Tyria was just fine in GW1, before this lame tree ever existed. The Sylvari would be orphaned, which I would like because I hate that Mary Sue species.

Well lore wise new Sylvari exist in the past, so no not really.

Wouldn’t mind one either, this could be massive lore-wise.
A lot of people would be happy.
Pale tree dies means Anet will have to rework the Grove, and Caledon forest heavily.
They’d have to keep being pestered by new players about why the hell are they talking to a dead person in the instances and then walking out and seeing the tree dead and gone. Basically, I’d wager a good bit of work, similar to if they decided to remove all ghosts from plains of Ashford or Ascalon. Reworking an entire area or region.
Lore progression, at last.

Persistence. That would be neat but a HUGE undertaking. Not impossible but I’m of the opinion it would be unlikely. As cool as that would be.
What’s with all the hatred towards the Pale Tree and Sylvari O.o?
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Indeed! Non-meat based beings are people too!
My theory on it is if the Pale Tree dies, there is another tree and that would be the new starting city for Sylvari. It would definitely be in line with how LA got destroyed. Heck, then they’d have a reason to bring hobo-tron back to try and arbitrarily wring more gold out of us to “rebuild what’s left of The Grove” and 8 months later it would still be the same. Just like LA.
I would imagine the Sylvari id going into a tailspin. Sylvari depend upon the Pale Tree for the continuation of their species. A real world analogy would be humans losing the ability to produce children.
They’re special! They got aspirations.”

They would go the way of the Seer form Guild Wars 1 :"( gone but not forgotten (intentional pun). Also all the Seer may not be gone.
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
To answer the OP’s question: Prepare for cataclysm.
I’m concerned that the devs want to destroy the Sylvari. Pale Tree is the only one protecting them from Mordremoth’s influence. Worse, she is the only one who can give birth to new Sylvari.
What’s with all the hatred towards the Pale Tree and Sylvari O.o?
They don’t play Sylvari. The haters only play human warriors. There are some types of MMO players who try to get game devs to ixnay certain classes & races they don’t like . All their anger is unfounded. If these folks actually play all three Sylvari storylines, they would better understand the game’s storyline.
I’ve seen these types before. WoW has a similar breed of players who try to get Blizzard to get rid of the Pandarans, but at least Blizzard is smart enough to ignore them. I’m not so sure about Anet tho.
Another reason some people are hatin’: The LS seems to be really focused on the Sylvari, and that frustrates those who choose to play other races.

Interesting theory, it doesn’t hold up though. Atleast not in the lore forums, where most people have played every race, just to see the story. Myself included. And I still dislike those leafy Mary-Sues. Sylvari are just so badly written with only very few exceptions.
Besides them adding not much understanding for the whole world. Everything about their lore is basically just about them. How could it be else, they are just around for not even 30 years. Granted Asura and Norn lack known history too, but atleast it is potentially there. I can see them enriching our understanding of Tyrias past. Especially about the underground and far northern areas. With Sylvari we can at best learn where those Pale Tree seeds come from. That’s the only interesting thing I can think of and it’s not even a very pressing concern on my need to know list.
Yet I have the feeling it might be answered sooner than other questions for the simple reason that Anet still tries to sell the Sylvari. That’s another point that bugs me about them, they are the creators pets. When the game came out, there wasn’t a single line of dialog in the whole game that talked bad about non-NC Sylvari. They were always the best smiths, had the most curious thoughts and so on. Thankfully that changed with the whole Scarlet storyline. I wonder if the devs read my posts, because I lamented about that a lot on these forums. Still the Mary-Sue vibe isn’t completly gone yet, especially with Scarlet being a Villain-Sue.
Maybe one day they wont annoy me anymore but so far they still do. Do I wish them to be removed from the game though? No! I wish them to be improved or given a backstory that atleast explains their “super anti-dragon awesomeness” (like for example being a biological weapon created by the ancient races to combat the dragon threat).
And for the record, I do not play a human character, I play mostly Norn and Charr. Never got the appeal of humans when you could play something else, non-humans seem much more interesting and exotic to me (if written well).
I for one dig the Sylvari. In my mind i like the idea that they are the natural worlds own way of defending itself from the dragon threat, and saving the world from destruction. If the pale tree died I would imagine the Sylvari as a whole would cease to be born. At least from this tree, obviously. And the remaining true player Sylvari would roam the world until they themselves disappeared.

Technically they could have quite the back story, if one wanted to include Ventari and the human(forgot his name already), because you could delve into their backgrounds and what changed them and brought them together…so, roughly 250 years(give or take a few years) of history.
The Pale Tree is the source of the ‘immunity’ to dragon corruption (only Mordremoth can get past it). So sylvari would lose that immunity, for starters.
And unless a new tree is found – Malyck’s, perhaps – there would be no more new sylvari.
Beyond that, baseless speculation.

Screenshot please.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Either way, the Sylvaris who is following the Dream will either die or joining the dark side, the Nightmare Court or just be as Scarlet and Aeoriwn (however you spell his name )
Remember the Sylvari in your storyline were he didnt felt or knew anything about the Dream or Pale tree. He was from another "tribute"/clan" of the Sylvari race in another main town of their own kind.
Hopefully the Pale Tree will survive!!

You miss the key point that the Sylvari are CLEARLY not about the past of Tyria, but the future. Look at the way, and the time they were born, as you state, they are merely 30 years old as a race. It’s very obviously not about enriching the past, but the history about to be made…

Not to mention a large chunk of the personal story.
We don’t know for certain that the Dream would die with the Pale Tree. The Pale Tree didn’t create the Dream (at least not consciously and deliberately), and she doesn’t fully control the Dream either.

As opposed to the other races that have no future?
