Where did all the dinosaurs go?
GW1 players Vanquished those lands of dinosaurs long, long, ago.
The Raptors survived, and apparently even expanded into dozens of new lands, judging by the different species that show up in Maguuma, the Shiverpeaks and Ascalon. Unfortunately it seems the bigger dinosaurs just couldn’t adapt and got hunted to extinction by overzealous GW1 players. :P
My character personally made sure the Angorodons were driven to extinction. I’m still holding out hope that we may find pockets of Tyrannus and Ceratodon deeper in the Maguuma, though.
Weird that the most dangerous dinosaurs went extinct while the most farmed dinosaurs (The raptors) multiplied and expanded their territory.
They likely moved to the center of the world to form a new civilization. By dinosaurs, for dinosaurs.

^The depths of Tyria now look like the “Journey to the Center of the Earth”…
Interesting question.
Are they all dead, save raptors? If so, then why are there no Risen Dino’s walking around?
I mean, the risen gorillas must have been from Elona or something, since I’ve seen no live ones in this game. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Tusked_Howler
Did Zhaitan go to Elona to get gorillas, but not use the native Dinosaurs of Tyria (Orr could’ve had live gorillas, that is a possibility too).
Or maybe, just maybe they were all pushed to Magus Falls and Maguuma Wastes on the west side of the World Map when the Asura started expanding their influence. Maybe they even went into Scavenger’s Causeway just below Mount Maelstrom. But sure enough, they were driven away from the places like Sparkfly Fen and what now is Caledon Forest and The Grove.
I’m still bugged with why Zhaitan didn’t use Dino’s in his army…

Ehh, I dunno. I’m not sure I want to get pwned by Mobrin’s 4000 damage (~80k damage in today’s terms) Power Attack again. XD

Maybe they wandered north to charr lands.
Maybe they all had an oldschool dinosaur laser fight? … In space, with sharks…

Clearly the dinosaurs that were farmed the most in GW1 had to evolve faster breeding habits and quicker maturation cycles. This heightened metabolism required the raptors to kill ever larger numbers of the other dinosaur breeds, thus rendering them extinct. Modern raptors have switched to other prey now but their increased breeding cycles have resulted in their spread all over Maguuma to be the only dino-species left.
Or ArenaNet just didn’t have time to make new dinosaur models

Only to be wiped out by the Destroyers.
~Sincerely, Scissors
Didn’t the Lysine Contingency program wipe them all out?
Or maybe they are still alive on one of Tyria’s islands… a lost world if you will.

I think a better theory is that the Dwarves are using them as war mounts.
On a somewhat related note, Hydras seem to have vanished unless all swam to the Ring of Fire (can’t say about the crystal desert ones)

I wouldn’t say that. In GW1 there were three main populations of hydras that we saw, one in Ascalon, one in the Crystal Desert, and one in the Ring of Fire. All we can really say is that the Ascalonian ones are gone, but one out of three does not qualify as a species vanishing.
EDIT: That said, the Covington achievement was still a horrible tease.

I believe we only saw hydras in post-searing Ascalon because they thrive in wastelands and places where it’s usually hard to live in. Since we didn’t see hydras in pre-searing Ascalon, my guess is they immigrated from the crystal desert after the searing. 250 years later, Ascalon has mostly recovered, so they either can’t or don’t want to live there anymore. We don’t have any reason to believe there’s not still hydras in the Ring of Fire islands and in the Crystal Desert.
I want to fight myself a champion branded hydra!
A hydra would be make an awesome Subject Alpha, each head could be corrupted by a dragon
What if the air in the Sparkfly Fen of old was just really rife with hallucinogenic substances and our characters just imagined fighting dinosaurs and stuff, while in reality they were just deliriously thrashing about on the ground?
I think they took the hallucinogenics in the air and put it into the drug you give Waine in the Sylvari storyline…
“But… the oozes! The oozes! And the dredge!”

Well if you read my whole post (which wasn’t a lot really) you would see that I noted both Crystal Desert and Ring of Fire
Should have just put in "where are Ascalon Hydras? "
They seemed dinosaurish to me.

I have also wondered where the dinosaurs (and many other creatures) have gone. I might understand that they were wiped out in 250 years, but why are there so many raptors? Makes no real sense.
If climate change is a factor, then all dinos, including the raptors would be wiped out I think.
It would be fairly easy to explain a lot of the disappearances and lore discrepancies. I don’t know why they (ANet) doesn’t.
Jurrasic Park: Tyria edition.
Run by an Asura who wants test subj—-er I mean volunteers to enjoy his park before it is released to the public.
Your character and your party members are invited to enjoy the experiment of a life time.

Best. Rave. Ever.
Yknow, I’ve been thinking… What other parts of gw1 could have just been an environmentally-induced acid trip gone wrong?
Ascalonian Hydras were a hallucination brought on by excessive tar fume inhalation.
Hydras in the Crystal Desert were the manifestation of dehydration/hyperthermia, because hey, you’re in a frikken desert.
Hordes of undead/hydras at the Ring of Fire islands? More like sulfur.
The Vaettir in EotN? Just your hypothermia talking.
So let me get this straight, flying bushes attacked you in Elona? Maybe you should go easy on the skalefin soup.
You fought living statues in Echovald? Just the mold spores talking, you’ll be fine.
Fish walking across the Jade Sea? Complex partial seisure caused by the bright flashes of spells being cast on top of a giant, reflective jade surface.
Heket and Hylek? They’re not really humanoid, just psychoactive toads you accidentally ate the other night.
Hordes of undead in the Desolation? The vengeful spirits of the dead? Riding around inside wurms? That whole Realm of Torment thing? You never made it past the gate of desolation before the sulfur fumes hit you.
