They won’t just die off since they are undead. Is there any documented purge to clear them out? Or did they all walked to orr?

The Orrian undead left over from the Cataclysm were probably killed off by the Lionguard/White Mantle/Shining Blade over the years.

We don’t really have any clear answer, but I don’t think they went back to Orr, since for the most part we don’t have Risen who match the GW1 varieties of undead.

We don’t know for certain, but as narwhalsbend said, they were probably eradicated over the years.

What I don’t understand is why we don’t some of the same undead in Orr if that is where they are from. Where are the necrid horsemen, etc.?

They wouldn’t go back to Orr because they’re not minions of Zhaitan.

To quote the Guild Wars Manuscripts as seen on the original wiki page for Orr, “There are few who survived that day, now known as the Cataclysm. While the Charr were never allowed to step foot in Arah, few count what the king’s advisor did on that day as a victory. The resulting explosion felled the invading army where it stood, but so too did it sink the entire peninsula, leaving only a scattering of small islands in its place. The beautiful city of Arah was consumed. What’s left above water now lies in a pile of ruins, blackened by the Cataclysm and years of neglect. All that remains in the wreckage of Orr are the wandering dead—those souls unable to rest in the shadow of this great disaster.”

I suspect that the Orrian undead were in Kryta either because they washed up on on Krytan shores or because they were following Vizier Khilbron.

@jheryn The working assumption I’ve seen a lot of is that Khilbron gathered up all of Orr’s army, accounting for why there’s no overlap and why the GW1 undead all seemed to have Orrian emblems. By that theory, all the cavalry would simply have marched out long before Zhaitan ever woke. It’s not confirmed, but it’s as good an explanation as any I’ve heard.
@narwhal Actually, freed from Khilbron’s control, I would personally expect some of them to want to go home. It’s a more or less moot point, though, since we have evidence it didn’t happen.

I doubt Zhaitan would want foreign undead in his territory.
EDIT: Your post below cleared up the confusion. If you look at the Orrian risen, they are almost all peasants, nobles, and farmers or the like. You don’t see any Orrian soldiers.

They did seem to be more intelligent than the Risen, perhaps because they were created by the Cataclysm and not just simply reanimated dead? I could see them wanting to go back to Orr if not being controlled by Khilbron, but as I stated before they probably would have been killed by Zhaitan when he awoke.

I did not mean that they returned, I mean that if they were truly Orrian Undead, then there would be necrid horsemen in Orr. They would not be foreign undead, they would be his own.

Aaron’s answer seems to be the plausible one.

In Eye of the North, we see what appears to be the Prophecies’ undead underground and in far fewer numbers. They were likely scattered and eliminated slowly over time.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

I like to think that the Lich had gathered the majority of them for the “siege of LA” (that’s what i call it) and those were destroyed during the Gates of Kryta mission.

Yes, i know we still see a comparably big number outside of that mission, but i am inclined to believe that those are “leftovers” and that those were eliminated along the time.

If i remember correctly the Beyond: War in Kryta changes to some areas include replacing orrian undead with Mantle Peacekeepers, which makes me think that by that time (1079) the undead had been more or less eliminated.

I was thinking about this the other day actually, and it really bugs me because surely there would still be SOME of the old Orrian undead in underground caverns and catacombs still… I refuse to believe that we somehow wiped every single one of them out, especially the bone dragons. I don’t think we will ever get a satisfying answer though, probably something of the lines of -somehow any orrian undead still ‘alive’ when Zhaitain rose were converted to him or something silly…

Or, likely, they were linked to the Lich. Once the lich died, they stopped making more and over the 250 years, were slowly wiped out.

If the magic bringing them back isn’t maintained, I’d wager that. If the Orrian undead were kept active by the Lich, Lich dies and that’s gone <_<.
