Where is Z's corpse? :(
5 Years Later, We’re There!
Hi guys, so I’m just wondering if Z’s corpse is in the game.. We see the corpse of the early model zhaitan in the first trailer at 3:50 and again in this map from an the old .dat for Arah http://i.imgur.com/AluWU.jpg
I have to ask, is Zhaitan’s lair or his corpse found anywhere in the explorable dungeons? I kind of got over the fight with Zhaitan but the fact that they wouldn’t leave any explorable lair or corpse behind both baffles and kind of breaks my heart a little :P
They create this lore that really really excites me and then it’s like it’s none existent. Anybody else feel like that?
The corpse was completely removed from the launch version of Arah Explorable Mode. If you ask me it’s just another mark on a long list of kitten poor implementations of Zhaitan’s character.
We can’t reach Zhaitan’s lair (it’s at the tower we kill him at). The corpse was meant to be viewable – I suspect at the point of interest labeled “Zhaitan’s Rest” but because they wanted dragons within their dragons because they love dragons so much, they seem to have removed it.

He is an undead zombie dragon.
He probably just flew away when the coast was clear.
Do you even lift, bro?
Yet nothing says he was ever living to begin with (or that he’s currently undead – to call Zhaitan an undead is to call Kralkatorrik crystal itself, or Primordus fire) – that which was not once alive cannot be undead.

He is undead in the sense that his body is made up of dead dragons, which once were alive.

Nothing says those dragons are, or were, dead. If they’re even separate individuals.

Nothing says that they aren’t either. Based on what evidence we have, it seems very likely.

Was that actually Zhaitan’s corpse in the initial teaser trailer? I noted it was missing in the full release, because I remember it looking epic, but my first thought wasn’t that it was a dead Elder Dragon back then…just a very long dead dragon, like the remains of the giants in Crystal Desert in GW1. Looking at it again, though, I can see the similarity from the concept of him shown at the beginning of the trailer to the corpse in-game. Judging by its positioning, it looks as if you were meant to go through the dragon’s mouth.
I dunno – maybe they felt like giving it some mystery as to whether he’s truly dead…I hope he is truly defeated, though. I don’t want this whole, ‘Oh crap, we didn’t actually check to see if the Dragon who’s been plaguing us for 100 years is actually defeated…we just assumed so…whoops! Back to Arah, heroes, we need to make sure he’s actually defeated this time as he’s being a bit of a bother!"
Sure, make him dormant in lore if you have to reveal that eventually, I just don’t want him actually returning in GW2’s lifespan.

How did you get there?
Is it something to do with Path 2’s ship skip exploit?

No it’s an unused dragon model way out in the ocean in Cursed Shore. iirc. Not sure if it’s actually Zhaitan or an unused model for a planned Dragon Champion event.
Interesting. I’ll have to have a look in CS to find it.
It certainly looks like Zhaitan during the laser ‘press 2 to kill Zhaitan’ challenge. It has a charred wing, a damaged tail, and what looks like quite a few snake-like shapes leaving its mouth,.
Maybe it was meant to be used as a cutscene showing Zhaitan’s body descend back to the seabed, considering that’s where he was sleeping initially, which they eventually removed.

Where in Cursed Shore? I looked all across that abominable current border (abominable because the kitten thing wasn’t straight so it kept pushing me back when I was almost on land) and couldn’t find it.

I’m 100% positive it’s Zhaitan as this was inside Arah immediately after we killed him. I waypointed to leave and ended up falling through the map. http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x344/Wulfghast/gw316.jpg
Zhaitan is without a doubt the most disappointing antagonist even after dying.
Didn’t even leave a corpse to compare with this:
That concept art is Kralkatorrik – the in-game version is far smaller than that. http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/f/fe/Kralkatorrik.jpg

Some say Cursed Shore, some say Arah… Which is it? Arah’s more believable. But if you have to fall through the map to see it, it can’t be taken as canon as that’s a bug/glitch.

Did you take close up screens of his head(s)? Also interested in his arms, too, as they seem to be asymmetrical.
A fantasy of sci-fi cyborg implants grafted into the desiccated flesh of Guild Wars’ corpse.

The last screenshot I posted is the closest I could get to him and his many mouthdragons.
Found it. Confirm dead.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
If you guys are finding this by glitching, that’s not a lore confirmation sadly. :/

Wulfghast’s screenshot is from Arah story mode.
I would consider it more of an easter egg than a lore confirmation. That said, I can’t imagine why they would go through all the work of adding an intricately detailed corpse to the game if he wasn’t really dead. Then again, I can’t imagine why they would go through all the work of adding an intricately detailed corpse that most people will never see…
Well, that doesn’t seem to be an added corpse. It’s just where the corpse ends up after the cinematic by what I can tell. That’s all.

The corpse is smack dab in front of you. You just have to be observant enough to see it.
If you note, Arah story cinematics have the same background, before Zhaitan’s death. Plus its concept art, not actual scenery. :P

It looks to me like they meant to use it as a cutscene. The rocks ‘floating’ there and his body were probably meant to animate to show sinking to the seabed, but they either ran out of time and didn’t add it in, or deliberately chose to not show us his body sinking to the floor for the sense of ‘Is he really dead?’. It’s one of those ‘smoke and mirror’ techniques game devs use for some cutscenes where they place a scene completely out of the playable map.
One way or another Id imagine finding the corpse of Zhaitan would be a high priority for the pact, not only for the sake of confirming hes dead but also for the sake of study. A dead Elder Dragon is a seriously valuable subject for study.
I also think they would get very concerned if they couldnt find the body. Its not like hes a small dragon. Even a visual id from a chopper would be something they would be keen for and they know where he fell.

That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with stranger aeons, even death may die.

I remember the first leaked minimap images of Arah had his corpse at P4 (Seer), but for some reason they removed it…
Sign for him not being dead yet? Who knows.

Really, a corpse just makes him a bit more troublesome. One, I expect it to smell terrible. Two, Joko will just suddenly appear and reanimate it for a flying mount.
