Let’s play with the idea that the races couldn’t beat the dragons.
Due to some strange circumstance, you get to fight and then become corrupted by one of the Dragons.

Which would you choose?

I’d rather be Risen than Branded or Icebrood. In the Orr areas it seems like the farmers, servants, and other Risen there tend to their old lives before being disturbed by the living. Almost akin to recent zombie films where they regain some automatic reactions based on what they last did in life.

Plus I don’t want to be rock nor ice, even though I may look like a version of the Deep Ones after my corruption considering my choice.

I’m not really sure if this does belong in the Lore section, but it should be a fun thread for some

So which Dragon minion would you be?

Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!

Well given how I’ve been trying to understand the psychology/methodology of the Elder Dragons, I reactively go further into just pure face value like the above.

Primordus is off the options because he isn’t corrupting living beings (his choice, I imagine), and instead all indications point to him wanting to kill all living beings.

The Risen who live out their daily lives seems to be the civilians of Orr – those from elsewhere who get corrupted become the thralls unless they’re worth making strong. And all the thralls and brutes do is mindlessly zerg everything that’s alive. I’ll pass on that, though the mentality of the risen is definitely appealing (the risen believe Zhaitan offers them immortality and importance from what I’ve seen of the sentient risen).

Branded are a bunch of fanatical cultists when you boil down to it. I wouldn’t mesh.

Icebrood are all about gaining power, so I guess that’s the best of those four.

Mordremoth and the DSD have little known about them, but their goals seem to me based on little to be to inflict pain and flood the world (respectively). I love mysteries and wouldn’t mind being able to breath underwater…

So I go with the DSD.

^ A thousand times this. Although I think the decomposed, ice-encased corpse icebrood are similar to the wights of the White Walkers from Song of Ice and Fire, while those who were corrupted alive won’t decay. Jormag’s main domain is not necromancy, true, but those icebrood norn with their spine and ribcage showing couldn’t have been alive prior to corruption, same with the colossi and those giant ones walking on four legs with a rotten skull encased inside the ice.

Which dragon’s minion I’d like to be if I couldn’t avoid corruption? Probably Kralky’s Branded. Kralkatorrik craves perfection, and it is reflected in his minions in a way. Plus, Branded look the most normal after crystallization – especially griffons. Oh, and Branded babes are still hot. :P

Actually, regarding the icebrood norn that walk on all four – in Snowden Drifts there’s an event chain that focuses on Snowdrift Haven and Jormabakke Stead, where if you fail to destroy the dragon totem in the timelimit a veteran Svanir Shaman performs a ritual on himself and becomes a Champion Icebrood Shaman – using the larger Icebrood Norn (all fours) model.

So there’s at least one case of a norn going from living to large with a face that shows a revealed skull.

In the Priory storyline, the norn who takes the Sanguinary Blade also turns into a different Icebrood that has an exposed skull (shared with that CoE explorable icebrood boss).

Exactly. If you take a look at the higher-ups in the Sons hierarchy they almost always use the model which has started to become covered in corrupted ice (i.e an arm/shoulder). So it is not far-fetched nor unlikely that Icebrood Colossi were Sons who received one too many “gifts” from Dragon.

I’m leaning towards Destroyer. Yes, I would have to be such a butt-kicker that even Primordus would have to go “whoa dude. You’re IN!” before zotting me into an immortal lava lord.

In some ways this thread offer a more interesting storyline than the official personal story – Prove your worth to the dragon of your choice. Fall, but but fall magnificently into the pit of your choice.

I agree. It would be very cool if in a future expansion devoted to the Elder Dragons we get to make a choice in our PS as to which dragon energy we get corrupted by. Not fully corrupted of course, but just slightly tainted. Make us more interesting than perfect heroes. After being tainted it could unlock the correspoding Elite Skill (long cooldown, short duration) that would transform us into full minion form and change our action bar accordingly. It would have to be disabled in sPvP though, similar to racial abilities.

Could have a storyline where you have to infiltrate the dragon cult’s ranks, going deep enough in that you start to become corrupted (either represented physically, with an appearance change and a debuff, or mentally, with hallucinations or different voice responses to skills).

Of course, at the end of it, you’d be somehow cleansed of the dragon’s corruption through some process that can’t be repeated. Probably through the sacrifice of a likable side character, like a quaggan.

if we’re talking about our PC’s, it’s kinda off the table for me, I’m a sylvari… (which I dunno, could mean I’m already one?)

if we were talking about some theoretical situation where it was ME getting corrupted, branded, for one thing, they aren’t exactly controlled by krakatorrik, he just owns them (hence being “branded”), they still retain full sentience and free will and carry on normal lives doing whatever they were doing before (risen and icebrood are pretty much mind controlled as well as corrupted, destroyers aren’t sentient and are pretty much elementals on fire), the main difference is they look a lot prettier now, and according to some of the charr in the branded areas, if you don’t destroy every part of a branded, they reform.

so yeah, keep my mind, gain awesome crystal/chaos/mesmer abilities, become incredibly hard to kill, and are “owned” by a dragon that seeks perfection and is most likely incredibly protective of his “things”

the one downside I can imagine is seeing anything unbranded as hideous monsters that must be destroyed

unless sylvari turn out to be dragon minions, in which case you definitely want sylvari

You’re a bit wrong here.

They’re called Branded because they’re named after the Dragonbrand (called the Brand for short).

Branded are mindless – except, like for every dragon minion case, the stronger ones that make up the lieutenants and champions. You’re probably getting the misconception that they’re not controlled due to the ogre chieftan in Edge of Destiny, but he’d be fitting one of the champions or lieutenant figures. Whether they retain sentience is actually questionable, but they certainly don’t have free will – not even champions do, for that matter.

Also, it’s risen mooks, not branded ones (at least as far as I know) which go about doing what they were doing when corrupted – that’s why you see risen in Orr mining, farming and so forth when they’re not aggroed.

huh, In which case, bubbles, annoying krait and flooding the world sounds like a blast :P

(again, unless it turns out sylvari are minions, it’s always nice to go with the ones who aren’t evil and are currently winning :P)
(incidentally, if primordus wants to destroy everything, bubbles wants to flood everything, kralkatorrik want to own everything, and zhaitan and jormag want… erm…, would that make mordramoth want to know everything?)

Mordremoth seems to be more in “wants to torture everything” department.

And nothing indicates or implies sylvari are dragon minions – not unless you believe the Nightmare Court’s view of what a “true sylvari” is, but thanks to Malyck we know they’re wrong. Mordremoth might be the source of the Nightmare (and thus is the only ED capable of corrupting sylvari) – to our knowledge), but it doesn’t hold a direct tie to sylvari or any tie to the Pale Tree as it stands.

but the nightmare court isn’t being evil for the heck of it, their evil is just a means to an end (that end being cadeyrn having serious ego problems and wanting an explanation that ISN’T a ventari quote)

there’s also the possibility that sylvari are minions of a dragon that just isn’t “evil” like the others, if mordremoth is affected by the dream (and the tablet) like sylvari are, it would likely realize that the other races are more useful to it alive than dead and that seeing what happened to zhaitan, it would probably be a good idea to stay on their good side (now THAT would be a good twist, mordremoth asking the races to stop the nightmare court so it doesn’t get re-corrupted)

Actually, they really are being evil for the sake of being evil – they’re being evil because they believe that they’re closer to a sylvari’s “true nature.” There is no ends to be met for it other than making everyone else like them – despite what their recruiters would argue about them wanting to be “balanced” with both light and dark like the Dream.

And I don’t see this possibility. It’s just pure speculation and wishful thinking with no backing – just like the Pale Tree being a dragon champion. There’s no evidence. No implications. No nothing. The only ties there are between Elder Dragons and the sylvari lie solely in the Nightmare and the Nightmare Court’s minions (specifically those husks).
