Hmm Balthazar might fit from style, but then rev is no derwish and this breaks lore on so many ways that i will climb a tree fight now and hide from konig

Edit: turai ossa was wearing shield and sword, but if i remember correctly the sword was rather big. Apart from him maybe one of the named jotun? They do have big kitten swords. The problem i see with gs is that it did not exist in gw1, at least i do not remember it.

I’m pretty sure GS existed in GW1 time, it’s just that mechanics limitations prevented players from seeing them. For example, the Long Sword skin of gw1 became a gs skin in gw2 (Kymswarden).
Same thing with Gullik in Ghosts of Ascalon wielding a two handed Axe, but we’ve never seen one in-game.

For a stance, I’d agree any named Jotun (no spellcaster though) would be a great candidate.
But legends don’t necessarily need to be associated with a weapon (pretty sure Glint didn’t use a shield, or Shiro swords)

It doesnt have to use greatsword i believe, just looking for one that could fit it. Like mace/axe for Mallyx which represent his fists and claws

If I remember right, Shiro used specially designed “daggers” in game because of game mechanics that were designed to look like dual weilded swords. So Shiro’s weapons make sense, and obviously they had to create some sort of weapons to go with monsters that didn’t weild anything.

What, Talon Silverwing? He used sword and shield! :P

I think weapon matters less than weapon abilities, depending on what you’re asking for – I presume given the content of OP’s posts this is asking for an idea of suggesting a new elite specialization?

If the greatsword is treated more like a melee weapon – like the staff is – than a magical tool – like everything else more or less – then I’d look at warrior legends, particularly those who either wielded swords or had swords named after them. If it were more of a magical tool I’d look at more magically inclined figures.

Or you can just look at figures we know little about – like Lord Victo! He was an Orrian hero with warrior weapons, but we know now that nearly everyone in Orr had magical abilities, so he goes both ways. :P

You guys are assuming that all legends for revenant have to be characters we already know.
Theres nothing stopping anet from creating a new legendary character that has long been dead but that we CURRENTLY dont know about, such as heros from past dragon rises or maybe some important tengu hero we dont know about at the moment because of them having cut themselves off from everyone for over 100 years

Since we know the mists consist of everything and the multi-dimension-theory and time travel is a thing, I would love a future hero , just to go against expectations.
He could even be of an alternate future, just so we won’t get spoiled (Comander cough ).

I wouldn’t mind a Booster Gold in my head. Focus unlocked for some Laser fun, based on some SAB style retro power of the 80s. I think people would not be pleased, since they already hate the joke legendary weapons.

For a greatsword? Mhm… Some warrior, like Konig said.

The third to last elite specialization for revenants will be someone who seems to be a nobody. We don’t know the race and the profession seems a bit odd, even the gender is hard to tell because the voice sounds a bit androgynous.

Then GW3 is announced, and we find out it is, in fact, the PC from GW3. The name associated is merely a nickname/surname attributed to the character.

Jora could work with a greatsword. She wielded it with one hand but it was as long as my character’s entire body. Aesgir Dragonrender could work as well, given Eir’s statue of him depicts him with a sword.

We could get a Sylvari legend in the form of Riannoc, the first Sylvari to die and the original wielder of Caladbolg. Or Trahearne the second wielder of Caladbolg.

Ah, finaly. A modern world, where magic and tech is fighting or superiority and the remnants of dragons are still our greatest enemy, even though they seem to be on our side for now.
They aren’t devour us anymore, but the new master of the dragonforce are in control of the new worldorder.
There is something else creeping in the mists, though.

The catchphrase will be: Don’t trust a dragon and always carry a big gun

I need to play more shadowrun I guess, but then again it would allow for greatswords.

@Jaken This is the only real source we have on King Reza. “Reza, son of Zoran, was king of Orr during the Guild Wars. As king, Reza tried to shield his people from the wars, and encouraged a greater focus on spiritualism, magic and the arts. He was a genuine devotee of the Six Gods, with a faith that was true and earnest. He tried to play peacemaker during the Guild Wars, and stop the ravages of war throughout Tyria. Sadly, his efforts were unsuccessful. Not only did he fail to stop the wars tearing Kryta and Ascalon apart, but the attempt to use Orrian troops to stop fighting elsewhere left his own country open for an invasion of its own—by the charr. In an effort to save Orr from falling to the charr, Reza’s advisor, Vizier Khilbron, invoked a dark incantation from the Lost Scrolls. The uncontrolled magic of the Lost Scrolls caused to the Cataclysm, sending the entire kingdom of Orr to the bottom of the sea. How tragic that, as its last ruler, Reza the peacemaker bears the horrible burden of its fall… " All in all, not the kind of guy I’d associate with a greatsword. Maybe a focus elite spec.

@Burtnik Really? I’ve always found the opposite to be true. Kalla gets mentioned all over the place in Guild Wars 2, and every in-game rendition of the rebellion against the shamans focuses on her. Pyre, on the other hand, only gets a statue in a corner of Ashford, and maybe a few off-hand mentions in NPC banter.

I highly doubt they’d let us channel a god. They seem too powerful to make a reasonable Legend for mortals to wield, and it would cut into humanity’s ability to pray to their gods for favors if literally anyone could become the avatar of say, Balthazar. I feel there’s a good reason they gave us Mallyx and not Abaddon, and allowed us to channel Glint rather than something like Zhaitan.

Mallyx already covers the sort of flavor you’d get from Abaddon. For a Dhuum-like legend I could see us channeling a lich like Khilbron or even Mad King Thorn.

Kalla would be a good candidate for a greatsword, but if we get a charr legend I’d rather it be someone we actually met in GW1. Either Pyre Fierceshot or Heirophant Burntsoul. Both could be a mid to long range condi focused legend with Pyre having a shortbow and a host of bleeds and poisons while Burntsoul would have a scepter and a ton of AoE burns.

There’s also legendary figures who’s weapon is open to interpretation. I wouldn’t mind Kuunavang being represented by a greatsword to mimic his long body covered in sharp scales if it has an array of celestial themed magic attacks. Though we can’t call it Legendary Dragon Stance. Maybe Legendary Serpent?

Another possible greatsword legend could be Saint Viktor or Archemorus, though they are more obscure. I just remember them holding Shiro’s swords in a two handed grip.

Personally, I don’t mind which charr we get as a legend, as long as we get one eventually. I do think Bonfaaz Burntfur would be a better pick than Burntsoul, though- he called down the Searing, for titans’ sake, and went on to sack Rin before his death. Burntsoul’s legacy seems to be mainly failing to kill a troublesome bunch of humans when he had the chance, briefly and disastrously flirting with ‘gods’ that actively sought to kill their followers, and becoming the first high-profile victory of Pyre’s rebellion. I figure less likely a legend than a recipient of the same treatment as the Imperator who ran headlong into the Foefire.

But on the broader idea of revenant legends from GW1, that’s something I hope they move away from, and fast. I get that they’re good for nostalgia value, and make a ready supply of powerful characters that don’t need to be fleshed out for the playerbase, but it’s going to get really weird really fast if only figures active in an arbitrary ten-year span of history can be channeled, and they’ve already had to stretch to avoid a human-centric cast (looking at you, Ventari).

R.I.P., Old Man of Auld Red Wharf. Gone but never forgotten.

Bonfaaz would be a good choice too. Honestly I might have preferred him over Burntsoul if not for the fact we kind of beat him up back when we were level 10.

The general theme of the legend would be the same either way. Lots of burns and an elite that brings down a Searing Crystal to obliterate the area.

The legends don’t HAVE to be from GW1, I just prefer them to be characters with a known personality and history. I’d accept a character from one of the novels or from GW2’s time as well, hence why I suggested Riannoc or Trahearne earlier. I want to channel characters I like that I have interacted with on some level before. Not characters that are known only for their deeds and nothing else. Snaff would make a good legend for asura because those who read the novels will be familiar with him on a deeper level than just having saw a reference to him in the game once.

Also keep in mind that Mallyx and Glint weren’t only active in that ten year span. Both are likely thousands of years old. A legend for Mad King Thorn would also be a character from ancient history that we’re all VERY familiar with. Or one of the Mursaat perhaps.

Kalla Scorchrazor seems a perfect fit.

Grandcub of Pyre Fierceshot from GW1, led the revolution against the Flame Legion, secured victory and was assassinated for it. Essentially the mother of modern free Charr society and restored equality to Charr females. Also wielded a greatsword according to her statue.
