Why anything?
Historically, 200 years is insufficient (timewise) for over 20% (est) of a populace to diverge as has occurred here (Flame Legion, Nightcourt, Sons of Svanir, etc) and become a DANGER to society—————-a vocal minority, yes————-an annoyance to the “Righteous”, maybe——————-a threat, improbable.
Might I suggest you read up on some real life history? Chapters that could be quite interesting to focus on is Germany during the 20th century, Napoleon and Alexander the Great.

I disagree with your troubles and it might come because you only have played all of GWW1 and not all of gw2 has been revealed.
The driving force behind the charr’s motives in GW1 wasn’t fully revealed till Nightfall. Untill then all we knew was that the driving force where the titans. We only found out that the person behind all of the events in prophecy’s and factions was Abadon untill we got nightfall.
The main difference in my opinion between gw1 and gw2 is that the motives aren’t as straight forward and black and white as in gw2.
You saying ‘The dredge hate dwarfes because they where dwarfen slaves’. The current Dredge culture is based on a communistic culture. Where the dredge leaders are using an ideology as the religion behind the dredge ‘freedom’ and use the fear of dwarves as repressing element. This is a common way of repressing the people. Many dredge disagree with how they are being lead, but are either afraid to step up or are uncapable of starting a real revolution. In Sorrow’s Embrace explorable mode we help some brave dredge to start a revolution and this is likely to be continues.
Son’s of svanir have a real defined motive. support their spirit of the wild Jormag and help him reach his goals. They are misguided but thats what it is.
The nightmare court again has many layers. Again and it isn’t black and white. Where the nightmare court was started as a political movement out of disagreement with the ‘sackles’ of Ventari’s tablet. They have developped into a violent terroristic group. This has mostly to do with the fact that they have opinions wich are not welcomed in sylvari culture and are being stopped to express them openly.
You still have idealistic courtiers like Faolain and Gavin.
So I disagree. when there was only Prophecy’s GW1 lacked more of what you called defined foes then GW2 now.
Take for example the Tengu in GW1. Why where they hostile??
The centaurs? why have where we fighting them??
The big mystery of the gargoyles. You are a bit easy to cast them off as wildlife in my opinion.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
You definitely need to do some more research if you think 200 years isn’t significant for things to evolve and cultures to change…heck you don’t even have to go back to what krall said just look at the world over the last 200 years, it’s changed quite a lot, hell even the last 100

Yeah, 200 years is a big one. The UK used to be the empire that the sun never sets on. The USA used to be scattered colonies in that empire. France used to be a world power. Spain used to be a world power. Granted this all didn’t change in the same 200 years but 200 years is a lot of wiggle room for anything to happen.
Good example, 200 years ago the US and UK were fighting the war of 1812 and the US had just made the lousianna purchase…also slavery was still legal…just a few huge things there

I agree. I also would add that a world changing event happened in those 250 years. The elder dragons awoke. The EDs awakenings probably was viewed as an semi-apocalyptic event or the foreshadowing of such and event. This would tend to change views of huge numbers of any population.
Also, the Sylvari are new and them being divided into a dark and light side just may be natural for them and have an impact on the world for which we really have no clue yet.
One thing I will agree on, is that there are many places that have been abandoned or outright destroyed with not much explanation. I was sure that we would see many of the places we used to travel to thriving. Not much is left in any way. Beetletun is one of the few recognizable places remaining. It just strikes me as humorous that not much else from the previous game remains. Hopefully places we don’t have access to as of yet, will pop up as those regions become available.
