Why do icebrood not drop glacial lodestones?
Because they are corrupted. I guess Corrupted Lodestones are Glacial Lodestones… only corrupted!
Do you even lift, bro?
Glacial ones are just uncorrupted ice, I guess. THey drop from regular ice elementals. Not sure why there’s a need for two ice lodestones, but that’s what we got :/
What Mystic said. Glacial Lodestones represent pure cold/ice magic, while Jormag’s Icebrood represent an evil, corrupted form of ice. Same reason we have Molten and Destroyer Lodestones.
The ice you see around Icebrood camps certainly looks quite a bit different than ice anywhere else. Shimmering and streaked in black, that sort of thing.
And a man who trusts no one is a fool.

We got doubles of all the lodestones-
Glacial Lodestones (Ice elementals) → Corrupted Lodestones (Icebrood)
Molten Lodestones (Embers) → Destroyer Lodestones (Destroyers)
Charged Lodestones (Air Elementals) → Crystal Lodestones (Branded)
Onyx Lodestones (Earth Elementls) → Piles of Essence (Risen)
I’m expecting to see new pairs and new recipies using them as Bubbles and the Sixth dragon are introduced.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Hmm, I wouldn’t say that Charged Lodestones and Crystal Lodestones are related. One is Air/Lightning and the other is Earth/Crystal. If anything, I’d say that Onyx and Crystal are the linked pair.
Piles of Essence are the odd one out in that they really don’t belong to a traditional “element”.
Have you seen how much lightning surrounds the brand? . Look at the icons for those two – same silhouette. It’s like a before and after picture. I actually find the Molten and Destroyer icons to have similar linked shapes. If you could look down on the destroyer core from the ‘top’ it might look very similar to the molten lodestone it started out as.
I agree Onyx to piles is a little less solid, but Stone (natural) to Dust (undead) isn’t that big a leap, and the essence is still physical rather than ephemeral, so I think we’re looking at evil dust more than pixie sparkles.

I’ll have to take your word for it. I still haven’t visited the Brand with any characters yet. Still, I imagine the lightning is because crystal tends to be analogous to quartz and electricity. I still think overall that Crystal has its roots in Earth rather than Air.
Going by their naming conventions (Soiled, Filthy, Putrid), I was under the impression that the Essences were more like foul-smelling goop dug out from the internal cavities of undead, like a kind of undead blood-substitute.
Sure. I agree the Onyx to Piles link is the weakest. It could be Onyx is forshadowing the 6th dragon (some theories about that hang together very well) and we have yet to see uncorrupted essence, but will once the rest of post-Zaitan Orr is opened up as new zones.

uncorrupted essence? XD
But yeah, I see your point now, I was tunnel visioning on the two ice ones, forgot about the other pairs

Wow, thanks for the nicely organized chart.
I hadn’t thought of them as doubles, and I thought Bubbles must be the dragon for Glacial, and 3 more dragons for onyx, charged, and molten. This makes a lot of sense.
And Crystal does make sense to me for air, because of all the lightning Kralkatorrik & minions use. They’re both purple too, where Corrupted & Glacial are both blue; molten & destroyer are both red; and onyx and essence are both black.
Onyx & Essence makes sense too, in that one is earth, and one is used-up and returning to the earth lol. These creatures probably eat onyx and the vile essence is their leavings! We put manure into soil to make things grow, although I doubt evil manure would help plants.
Pure spitballing now, but I’d expect by or shortly before the Bubbles expansion we’ll have encountered~
Tidal Lodestones (Water Elementals) → Vortex Lodestones (Minions of Bubbles)
And with the Sixth Dragon something like~
Heartwood (Ents) → Blight Lodestones (Blighted are suspected of being the 6th Dragon’s agents already seen in game)
The nice thing is there are a fair number of Sigils and Runes already in the game that have no recipies that might be hooked up to these rare materials as they come into play.

While I agree with the Piles of Essence being the odd-one out, I would argue Charged and Crystal are linked. I mean, Charged Lodestones are meant to be lightning right? How can you get a lodestone out of lightning? You need something physical to conduct it – and with crystals, the icons look rather electrified if you ask me.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
I always seen the piles of undead stuff as Corrupted Dust we use to transmute stuff in the forge.
6 tiers of piles of dust + Zhaitan Corruption→ 6 tiers of piles of essence
