Why is Tyria so special?
For the same reasons the world has been revolving around the biconics – because the writers chose to.
It’s a convenience thing. It’s a lot more work to create the entire world, so they created part of it and condensed the stories to take place in there.
Basically this. My guess is they don’t plan on exploring the entire world so they stuffed everything into a small corner of it. Consider also that nothing says the dragons have to be spread out. We like to think they would but maybe they want to be near each other’s demesne to keep an eye on each other?
Having them close to each other certainly seems strange, but it’s not exactly lore breaking either.

That’s why the EDs focus on subcontinental Tyria, most likely. Jormag only began focusing on Tyria after waking, and didn’t wake on subcontinental Tyria but north of it – and he focused north of him too (Kodan); Zhaitan and Mordremoth don’t have any known influence on subcontinental Tyria from during their previous awakening, indicating that they traveled and fell asleep on subcontinental Tyria, without having much sway until the later years. Kralkatorrik and Primordus are the only ones who have historical evidence of heavy influence on subcontinental Tyria, and they both can literally be anywhere in the world now.
But if you’re wanting a non-lore reason, it’s what the above said. The writers decided to focus on subcontinental Tyria, so everything happens there. But after taking out Mordremoth, they can very easily and very believably say “okay, Tyria’s problems are solved, time to move to other lands” then either head north for Jormag, or head anywhere for the other three Elder Dragons.

Perhaps civilizations unknown to our characters are in the process of clobbering (or have already clobbered) the other Elder Dragons, thereby rendering us free to do something besides moar dragonslaying sooner rather than later.
Probably the amount of magic in Tyria. EDs eat magic and sleep. Civilizations (e.g. asura, Orr, possibly the charr, etc.) then seem to (unintentionally) use the magic of the slumbering EDs.

Why the continent of Tyria? Because it has the same name as the planet! No, seriously. Tell me one place in the universe where the name of the continent is the same as the planet. It’s because there’s no place else of real consequence.
Or there was a time in which humans assumed their continent was the entire world and didn’t decide to fix the name after they learned otherwise.

Except that The All, which encompasses the whole world, only speaks of six bodies of power – which both the PC and the Durmand Priory, separately, attributes to the Elder Dragons.
There be six Elder Dragons.

Koviko’s likely correct, however The Map of the All gives an interesting insight.
In the past, the world was called Thyria.
Continent of Tyria, world of Thyria. Slang and accents and evolution of language likely resulted in the latter’s h being dropped.

Hmm… should’ve read that book closer when doing that instance. Not sure if retcon, rewrite or always the plan, but that’s definitely a clever way to make a distinct difference in terms.
IMO, the continent is only special because the Elder Dragons reside in and around it. As per Ogden Stonehealer, civilizations “evolve” following each cycle of the dragons. If the dragons are magical autotrophs, it follows that we should expect civilizations to develop in and around them, especially because said civilizations utilize the dragons’ magic. Now this doesn’t mean that a civilization is always literally “on top” of a dragon, such as was the case with the Orrian civilization and Zaithan. Civilizations may be located some distance from a dragon yet nonetheless utilize magic generated by it via the leyline network/ocean of magic.
It was Abbaddon who first gave the humans magic. Before that, magic was wild.
I would rather place the question, why the Dwarfs, Jotun, Forgotten, (Mursaat). laid the elder dragons to sleep in Tyria, while Glint hid the other races. We’ve seen so far Zhaitan in Tyria, and the awakening Modremoth. From those we’ve clear evidence that they’re in Tyria, except their minions.
Why is Tyria so special? Well thats a question that would also include the question why The Six where there until the Exodus. In fact the Bloodstones and other artifacts could lure magical beings there.
And we still have a deep sea dragon. Most People seem to have forgotten Kuunavang. As Modremoth is revealed now, it would be only logical that the deep sea dragon and Kuunavang share a connection. Therefore I wouldnt conclude that Tyria is so important, when we still dont know what Kuunavang and the deep sea dragon actually caused in Cantha. The Pale trees last vision confirms his existence. Modremoths badge moves into the middle, while all other remain steady, including one for the deep sea dragon.
The Bonus Mission Packpage from GW1 hinted a connection to dragons with the elite skill of Master Togo. In fact its called empire of the “dragon” and its the oldest human nation.
I would say that the dragonbrand is building a connection to Elona, also Ebonhawk is a vast city just at Elonas Gates, and Adelbern said, he build it to protect Ascalon from a great threat. Its not sure wether he meant Joko that remains to be seen.
Or there was a time in which humans assumed their continent was the entire world and didn’t decide to fix the name after they learned otherwise.
Or because all humans on tyria are descended form the first humans brought by the six “gods” and only later journeyed outward to settle other lands.
Keep in ming the word “tyria” is a human term, adopted by other races with the spread of the common new krytan dialect.

Tyria is “special” in the same way Middle Earth, Hyrule, Tristam, [insert particular country] is special.
The main reason is that it creates a familiar local and environment to build the story. While you certaintly can create a story that encompasses the whole world, it gets more and more complex. (See Robert Jordans Wheel of Time series.)
Basically it’s just easier to write it that way, and in a game setting it removes the need to create a bunch of background history, cultures, maps, etc.

One plausible good reason why all six elder dragons reside on continental Tyria is to do with the bloodstones. This is as in the previous elder dragons awakening they completed all their natural intended function of consuming all magic on planet Tyria with the only exception being the large portion of magic sealed away in the bloodstones. As we all know the bloodstones were created on continental Tyria. Well, with no where else to feed except continental Tyria of cause all the elder dragons eventually headed to continental Tyria. They converged and congregated there. This would lead me to the conclusion that once these dragon gods were spread out wide apart with each one residing on different continents but because of Seers meddling with the bloodstones now caused an unnatural imbalance of all elder dragons being located on one continent.
Edit: Magic within the bloodstones had drawn the elders dragons from wide and far to come to continental Tyria.

It is possible that Kralkatorrik flew south in search of a piece of the bloodstone. It will be interesting to see what was down there.
Kralkatorrik flew south to go after Glint, a traitorous champion of his. After that, we don’t know what direction he flew – just as likely to have gone east as well as south.
However, given that two of the three known bloodstones landed approximately the same distance from the volcano that launched them (while the third landed right back at said volcano), I doubt that there was enough power in launching those gigantic magical stones to send one to Elona – without going further than the others, the closest would be landing in Orr. So best chances are that the remaining two are underwater somewhere.

More likely he’s looking for Augury Rock and Glint’s Nest. Glint’s Nest was her place of power, and would resonate quite strongly with the crystal dragon.
Augury Rock, on the other hand, is a place empowered very strongly by the Forgotten and the human gods, and that makes it an excellent spot for a dragon to sit on, much like how Arah was a good place for Zhaitan to sit on.
I think you mean “Glint’s Lair” which is actually where Kralkatorrik assaulted Glint – it’s at the end of the Dragonbrand splotch. Again, Kralkatorrik flew off from there after the battle to an unknown location and direction.

That seems plausible.
Well, we have 6 Dragons going for world domination but kinda avoiding fighting each other. So with each cycle a time would come, where only one place is left uncorrupted. If no resistance is left, the dragon closest to it will claim it and all of them call it a day. A respectful nod to each other and they fall asleep.
But if that last place has still some resistance left, the dragons will continue to fight over it. And the longer the fight goes, the closer the elder dragons come. Because why would they hang around in a part of the world that already belongs to them and has no more or not much magic to consume any more? And as far as we know, the 5 Races Alliance did hold out well enough, even if they were losing in the long run. So all dragons, spread out over the world, had a chance to travel to Tyria (continent) to claim it for themselves. Of course they also kept some distance from each other. Even if they aren’t friends, they don’t seem to want to duke it out with each other.
So all Dragons rush in, with those closest having an advantage. Going by their awakening locations (Bubbles and that blocking stuff are just guesses): Zhaitan and Bubbles from south with Zhaitan blocking? Bubbles, Primordus and Jormag from north with Primordus blocking? Jormag, Kralkatorrik from east and Mordremoth from west. And then the Alliance pulls of its magic tricks. The Mursaat hide themselves, the Seer use the Bloodstone to hide Magic, Glint hides the other 4 races (and everyone else). So the last uncorrupted place just goes puff and vanishes. Might have confused the big lizards a bit, but it worked. They finished the round with a “gg, would play again” to each other and fall asleep, waiting for the next round.
And so all of them awake near Tyria (continent) and start doing their thing. They try to claim the place where they already are instead of moving somewhere else in the world. Those farthest away (Bubbles, Jormag) could go in other directions, while their troops move in all directions. If there isn’t something else in Tyria (continent) that is drawing them near. The broken Bloodstones could be such a thing, if they aren’t already consumed or empty.
