Wiki on King Reza
You’re probably right, although who knows, maybe he was a faithful worshiper of Abaddon xD?
Well, I guess that would make him a ‘faithful follower of One Human God’ :P
Actually, if one were to believe that the Orrian History Scrolls were not mistaken, Reza could be a follower of Abaddon at the time too, given how his vizier knew and worshiped Abaddon. It would be that unlike Khilbron, Reza revered all gods, not just the forgotten one.
“Reza, son of Zoran, was king of Orr during the Guild Wars. As king, Reza tried to shield his people from the wars, and encouraged a greater focus on spiritualism, magic and the arts. He was a genuine devotee of the Six Gods, with a faith that was true and earnest. he tried to play peacemaker during the Guild Wars, and stop the ravages of war throughout Tyria. Sadly, his efforts were unsuccessful. Not only did he fail to stop the wars tearing Kryta and Ascalon apart, but the attempt to use Orrian troops to stop fighting elsewhere left his own country open for an invasion of its own—by the charr. In an effort to save Orr from falling to the charr, Reza’s advisor, Vizier Khilbron, invoked a dark incantation from the Lost Scrolls. The uncontrolled magic of the Lost Scrolls caused to the Cataclysm, sending the entire kingdom of Orr to the bottom of the sea. How tragic that, as its last ruler, Reza the peacemaker bears the horrible burden of its fall…”
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Should it possibly just be changed to “faithful follower of the Human Gods” then?

I think those scrolls are most likely an oversight… but just to avoid controversy, I did change it to that.
He was a genuine devotee of the Six Gods, with a faith that was true and earnest.
Technically speaking, wouldn’t he be a devotee of the Five Gods and Abaddon? Since Abaddon was no longer acknowledged as one of the Six? But I guess the current term of ‘follower of the Human Gods’ is fitting as well.
Anyway, I wonder why Abaddon never used Reza as a minion like Shiro and Vizier Khilbron. Especially because Reza says that he is the most powerful of the Orrian kings.
Also Konig, on another note, last week I suggested that Scarlet might be influenced by a demon of the mists. If I recall it correctly you dismissed that by saying that demons of the mist don’t have mind control abilities (which is correct in the GW universe as far as I know) but what about intelligent demons like Razakel? He is the demon who converted Vizier Khilbron to a follower of Abaddon. I’m not implying that Scarlet is a follower of Abaddon since he is dead and long gone but she might be influenced by a demon like him.
It never ceases to amuse me that Reza is an anagram of my name
Abaddon was one of the Six Gods. They were called Five Gods because all historical mention of Abaddon was erased – only a few scattered scriptures (it’s really hard to fully erase someone from history – you can really only do such to official history like Mad King Thorn did all the time) remained, many of which remained in places where only the dead reside and were closed off for centuries (e.g., the Desolation, vaults of Arah, and Fahranur).
Nothing suggests Razakel had mind influencing abilities – he was a necromancer, and nothing said that he used magic to convert Khilbron into being a follower of Abaddon. The only “demon” (who’s origins are fully unknown) known to have mind influencing abilities beyond that of any standard mesmer is Kanaxai.

Also most of the demon influence on Shiro or Khilbron was less mind control and more slow convincing and twisting facts/appearances.
They played a very good game, and succeeded in it, but it wasn’t mind control.

Tis a demon, that talks into your mind (for god knows how long), can work on any part of your conscience, if thats not mind control i dont know what is.
Andele, nothing states that either the Fortune Teller or Razakel had talked into Shiro/Khilbron’s mind. They used – as far as we know – fully mundane means of tricking and converting Shiro and Khilbron.

This. Andele, what we saw of the Fortune Teller was (maybe she actually did look into the future, who knows), putting forth things, and twisting them. Making it so to the point where when Shiro was invited to go to the top of the temple, all he could think about was the line (IIRC) “The emperor is going to kill you!”
Razakel, I don’t think we got as much information, but he did the similar thing. Normal convincing/slowly making Khilbron think in the manner which would use the scrolls. Hell, Khilbron may have thought using that magic WOULD save Orr, instead of destroying it.
From what we can see, the very same thing happened to Varesh. Morghan spends a few moments talking about how she had changed since she started worshiping Abaddon. You even see a brief moment of doubt in one of the cinematics (very brief). The demons don’t really necessarily have a specific timeline in mind, they can take their time and play their games with people’s minds. If you want to say that this is the same that’s happened with Scarlet, I’d disagree. Whatever has infested her mind has taken over in a very short time. It may not have taken control right away, but it wasn’t too many months before she gave in.
All in all, the demons didn’t control in the way that we see Scarlet controlled. The demons in GW1 were physically present and using persuasion. The thing in Scarlet’s mind is entirely in her mind, and it seems to have it’s own housing within, something we’ve not seen of a demon before. This is not to say that what you speak of is impossible, merely that it is not within the known capabilities of any creature that we have currently met (at least to my memory).
