Q:
World of Tyria
A:
The Unending Ocean – as far as we know – is only the body of water between Tyria/Elona and Cantha. So despite its name, it probably does end.
As to the globe having been circumnavigated – I don’t think there’s any mention of such, but the Order of Whispers has a full globe of the world so it’s possible. Though how much of that (if any) is just them theorycrafting on the world’s look or using other races/groups’ maps of places they themselves haven’t been to yet is unknown.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
The Norn explorer Romke was attempting to circumnavigate the globe but was trapped in Orr when it rose from the depths. This is part of the personal story.
I suppose this raises a question though. Where do the Norn have a port?
The norn don’t. Romke was passing over Orr on his way to Cantha, the first stop on his journey around the world- this indicates he was coming from the north, from a port on the Sea of Sorrows. Before Orr’s rise, those shores were mostly human land, or else uninhabited, and so Romke probably set out from a Krytan port.
It’s interesting to note that if you look at the globe laid out flat, you’ll see that the lands we’ve explored in Tyria for all GW games is probably, as an estimate, about 10-15% of the total landmass.
Seriously.
There is an ENORMOUS world out there and the Tyrian continent we’ve been on is much, much bigger to the east and north. It’s like the Asian continent on steroids.
