Your Herald!
It’s Trahearne, lolololo
But in all seriousness, I don’t know. First time playing through, it was really cool to see that someone was stalking my feats, but then it was just like ‘Hey, a dungeon!’
Hopefully they’ll expand on his/her role in future updates
sounds slightly similar to how the master of whispers tracked your feats and was watching you in GW1 Nightfall (maybe its the order of whispers)
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
Come to think of it, giving specific people the right amount of information at the right time to entice them to work to resolve an important matter, like telling you the what and where’s about dungeons, is pretty much exactly the order of whispers’ approach.
The Herald freaked my character out. She didn’t like being watched that closely, and felt like she was being spied on.
i put a bounty on my heralds head but had no luck till now ^^
I call them “my creepy stalker” and really hope they’re not spying on me in the hotsprings.
Honestly, I don’t know what’s up with the nameless Herald thing. Getting letters from my mentor works perfectly fine, and seems way less creepier.
Most people speculate it’s Caithe, which would make a lot of sense.
I wish they used her in the first place :/.
M: Bladedancer – N: Scourge – En: Occultist – Ra: Swampstalker
T: Sharpshooter – G: Sunspear – Re: Hierophant – W: Corsair
Intentionally left nameless so that you can accidentally “choose” your herald in future personal story content.
You know, you make some decisions, then you pick one of three people to travel with, and that person is suddenly “Oh, I’m glad you got my letters” and you’re like “Oh, that was you all along!”
Annd you groan “Why do I see everything in this plot coming?”
And the content writers do their best M. Night Shyamalan impressions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdhhQhqi_AE
Writer/Director – Quaggan Quest

that would be cool actually ^^
In the original Guild Wars, your character was manipulated at every step until the very end. To play on what Jelle said, your Herald is feeding you information to attain a certain goal… but AT WHAT COST?
Next thing you know, it’ll turn out that the Dragons are themselves the only thing that protects Tyria from something even WORSE, and the “Herald” is actually Its agent.
Everybody, it is already well known that Your Herald is Lazarus the Dire, and he is doing everything to manipulate and destroy all life from the hands of his master, Mordramoth.
honestly, if i could live in a fantasy universe AND have whatever lifestyle i chose i would sooo be this sort of mysterious background character manipulating the ‘hero(s).’
so if not for for the fact that in the herald’s first letter he not only says he has people working for him (I WORK ALONE!) he doesn’t know why Destiny’s Edge broke up (I know EVERYTHING!) i would say that I’m the herald.
The focus isn’t on our character but on EoD. What will they do for our Herald?
You ever see that drunken old norn singing songs of heroic deeds of a forgotten past in the Busted Flagon, or the Shadow Lion’s Inn, or the Serrated Tavern? That crazed, loony old man who knows a bit too many stories and had a few too many at all times?
That’s your stalker. A creepy old man.
/joke of course

Didn’t know Caithe talked about herself in the third person.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
For awhile my norn ranger had a scribe in his home instance who was writing his story, but she seems to have vanished. Maybe she’s the herald.
She’s part of the “Defend the Mists” storyline, only present during those ten levels.

Your herald is clearly your GW1 character preserved by magic as a brain in a jar with a robotic writing hand.
If you don’t have a GW1 character it’s....uh....*rolls a dice* ...Dinky
Alright, alright….I’ll come clean….I’m everyone’s herald. And I gotta tell you, it’s hard work! Slow down with the leveling and take some time to stop and enjoy things! Then maybe I’ll get a moment’s rest….
Yeah, Caithe sends me letters all the time as it is. Unless she is seriously bipolar I doubt it is her.
i doubt its Caithe aswell
I was about to make a new post about this because it has been bugging me for months, but since this topic exists, let’s continue it. Is there any proof of the Herald’s identity yet?
I think its obvious who it is. It’s the mysterious, never seen, immortal Teller of Tales.

Just look at it based on the facts.
1) The Herald knows Destiny’s Edge as they know of him and seem to regularly keep in contact with them. He also holds a certain degree of respect among them, being able to convince the members to go aid other members in dungeons.
2) The Herald does not work alone.
3) He claims to have no idea why Destiny’s Edge disbanded, which is odd for someone who is able to monitor important figures in the world and their movements.
4) He also claims to be a collector of ‘tales of great daring and heroism’.
Based on these facts, my 3 prime candidates are (SPOILERs):
1) Riel Darkwater, The Master of Whispers.
2) A guy in a similar role as Durmand in GW1, and thus related in some way to the Priory.
3) Snaff. He’s alive. Maybe he’s Branded… or a Risen, but if Glint can break free of an Elder Dragon, I don’t see why a superior intellect like him can’t even without the Forgotten Ritual.

One major flaw with #3: Snaff is dead and cremated. He wasn’t corrupted, just killed. His ashes are buried under one of the floor tiles in Zojja’s lab.
I vote for this guy.

He always was very mysterious.
As much as it would be fun to see Vael as an immortal, I’m pretty sure he’s just human.
I haven’t read the messages in detail in a while, but I see him more as a town crier sort, not really interviewing the DE members. He just knows where they are, but I don’t think he is actively pulling strings between them.
I also doubt he/she’s part of an order, because that seems too exclusionist to have a main character be order specific.

ROFL. I think that’s the best forums post I’ve ever seen.
