I’ve never finished the personal story, so correct me if i’m wrong, but wasn’t Zhaitan’s corpse just left where we killed him. This seems like a risk, as dark magic would likely linger for many years near the place of his death, allowing, say a necromancer to harness it to whatever ends they so desired.
Again, not to familiar with the lore, so if i’m mistaken, then inform me.

It isn’t brought up in the storyline. Originally, we were to see his corpse in Arah explorable, but with his model changed they apparently took this out.

There was an interview in which Anet said they may return to the plot.

As to magic seeping out – it would be general magic, and not necessarily dark magic. It seems that the magic exuded by Elder Dragons is non-corruptive when they sleep but just generic magic; and if their bodies function like their champions, the same would go for when they’re killed. Anyone with magical affinity (read: just about everyone and everything) would thus be capable of harnessing and utilizing this magic. Which is why the Zephyrites took Glint’s corpse and used the magic in her body to make the aspects.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

But then again, Glint’s ambient magic lent itself inherently to a specialized subset of air magic. It’s possible Zhaitan’s remains might grant something similarly unique and unprecedented, even if it wouldn’t corrupt anyone.

Oh would love to have a link, or at the very least a time frame. As exciting as this might be, I’ve come to accept that anything ANet said more than 6 months-12month ago should be taken with a pinch of salt, since in the meantime they’ve either done it or given up on it.

Although I still see this working as a once of Living World update, you know something we can do while ANets working on S3 or whatever. It could be as easy as a single new dungeon instance, plot wise something along the lines: “Zhaitan was beaten but not defeated, go forth and put the final nail in that coffin” or maybe even a new Zhaitan-esque ED rising to try and replace him.

I believe the last time they mentioned it was the GuildMag interview last July, but to be clear, they weren’t promising anything- they were just saying it wasn’t off the table, another one of the innumerable hooks they might pick up whenever they feel it is compelling enough.

What Aaron said. Should have been more specific. They may return to it not as “it is planned” but “it isn’t off the table”. It was the GuildMag issue 9 interview.

Svanir was corrupted by Drakkar (a sleeping? minion of Jormag) doesn’t that imply dragon magic can corrupt when the dragon sleeps?

Drakkar was awake (or rather, awakened by Svanir, it seems). Jormag was not. Champions can corrupt in their own rights. This is seen also with the Great Destroyer and possibly Glint (Crystal Guardians, Crystal Spiders, and her baby/babies).

Magic from the Elder Dragons themselves do not corrupt when they sleep (see Primordus, Zhaitan, and Kralkatorrik).

The main thing about his corpse is… it’s huge.

It’d take a LOT of magic/firepower to utterly destroy it, and a massive amount of effort to move it. So really, they can’t do anything besides leave it where it lies, and deal with anything that comes from it.
