can some one explain why the shiver peeks changed so much
I think the answer is Jormag.
Jormag is like the size of a mountain so it makes sense why everything would be so different.
from school – mountains don’t change.
That’s a lie-to-children. Mountains change, just very slowly (with exceptions such as volcanic activity or – like was pointed out above – an Elder Dragon).
Also, there WAS volcanic activity, thus the volcano in the southern reaches of what used to be the shiverpeaks and is now the steamspur mountains.
Depends on what you’re referring to.
The Shiverpeaks defrosted due to Mount Maelstrom, a volcano which erupted and seems to be tied to Primordus (has a destroyer-related event so I hear).
The Far Shiverpeaks were shattered by Jormag when he woke, creating an inland sea to the north.
The game also seems to be taking place in spring/summer which means weaker snow.
If you mean terrain wise – this is more due to different layouts and sizes of the zones compared to GW1’s explorable areas; a bit of suspension of disbelief is needed to realize that Kryta isn’t nicely boxed into rectangles by peculiar mountain passes, for instance (same with Ascalon and the Maguuma). Especially since there is, technically, fewer such small mountains/large hills than GW1.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
what I mean is that the whole area is not the same as GW1, Understanding that dragons and volcano have an affect but mountains in general are pretty strong like it would take this dragon doing a h3ll of a lot of damage.
with the exception of mountains changing over time due to natural causes :P – is there anything that is the same as GW1?
Yak’s Bend is more or less the same. The old bridge leading out’s still there. Some of the terrain shifted a bit though.
There are more little places like that. It’s possible I supposed, with the dragons being to natural disasters what natural disasters are to normal weather conditions.

One dragon awakening caused an entire country to rise up from the depths of the ocean.
Yes. The Dragons DO have that kind of power. That is part of the reason they are a threat (the other part being them trying to, y’know, kill/corrupt everything).
If something on the scale of an Elder Dragon woke up on Earth, the resulting devastation would darken the skies for 100 years. Imagine the Yellowstone super-volcano blowing a huge hole in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. We’re talking an extinction-level event here, and that’s BEFORE the dragons start actively hunting humanity. I think Tyria got off rather easily with only massive flooding and a continent-wide climate shift.
shiver peek mountains
I believe you meant peaks.
it seems to me that the shiver peek mountains have changed A LOT and as I recall, from school – mountains don’t change. I get there was a flood, as stated in the lore about the shiver peeks, but nothing seems familiar and in 250 years no that much could have changed…..
Can some one fill me in?
Clearly your teachers left out the part about the effect the rise an of an elder dragon can have on a region . never mind the active volcano to the south .Even the diversion of the Elon had an effect along the southern edge
Natural disasters are not the only things that alter terrain. Mountains might be strong but they can still change due to rain, wind, etc. That being said, it would take a lot of time.
Canyons are often made over time due to erosion. You clearly didn’t pay attention in school because no one with an education would tell you “mountains don’t change”. That’s just silly. Go back to school. Naow.
Not just volcanic activity but glacial activity also. When glaciers melted the water enter thru the rocks and soil at low level temperatures (volcanic activity and changes in seasons). When they freeze again they expand and inthat expansion it breaks rocks (even very large rocks), create rivers, etc. …

Yes, thereĀ“s a lot of events to change A LOT The Shiverpeaks.

They left Elder Dragons outta your curriculum?! Kittening censorship in education has gone too far!
