i was wondering if anet could add a lil background lore to WvW or maybe add a somewhat living season for wvw changes that won’t be PVE content just something to get rid of the mundane grind everyday not saying i don’t enjoy the battles but WvW in a whole could use a little bit of a candy once and awhile

I wouldn’t be against lore as long as its not PvE-like as you mentioned. However, I think there are bigger issues right now that need to be solved and the PvE’ers would probably enjoy the lore team working on that instead.

Actually wvw have a background. Google for myst, hall of heroes. Pvp always happens in the myst, even in gw1. The Myst is a liquid place, nothing permanent and nothing real, everything build up from the echos of the reality. And in the middle of the myst, there is the hall of heroes, the waygate between diferent realitys. The myst had 3 entrace, but they are destroyed (as we know) so the asuras started to build portals (fractals, pvp lobby, wvw) and sent troops in the damgerous places. Of course a lot of realms did the same, and soon or later found each other. And what do you do if your well armed company meets a well armed company in a hostile enviroment? You start fight. Every realm thinks the others are attackers, who want to invide.

WSR→Piken→Deso→Piken→FSP→Deso

was referring to recently to this game all there is right now is three factions fighting eachother for no apparent reason other than to hold a tower which does nothing for the economy of there world

Mist war is precisely a sport. A fun, a competition. It holds no actual grain, and or such. It could be believed that Mist war was designed by Balthazar himself, and then left it there. Letting itself change over time gradually, transforming the terrains for the competitive combatants to try to take advantage of.

In reality, it’s just Mist. It have no actual lore, no actual link, or any other explanation. Mist is Mist, and it should not be explained, or comprehended as. It’s he force that deny everything we know, and cannot be explained logically without making it sound silly in our heads.

just sayin the lore team could hit wvw a bit with something as you say wvw changes a lot we have gotten new maps related to the wvw experience. and a change of map from the desert to alpine, a lil bit of living story there would of been nice to see as a ever changing mist environment like ya said. -which I know is updates and fixes- but that is usually the only thng for lore we could currently have to work with in wvw

They did. It’s just as I stated. It’s just Mist. It’s not a lore, because everything is happening. Yet there’s no history being made. No legacy, no nothing. Just the repeating cycle.

That’s what it is. Te repeating cycle. Of infinite nothingness.

There’s not much lore on the actions of WvW, but there is some.

It takes place in the Mists – as Dlarnkk is talking about – just like the Fractals of the Mists, PvP, and in GW1 most PvP and the Underworld, Fissure of Woe, Tomb of the Primeval Kings (sans the outpost) and Realm of Torment.

WvW itself is the “Mist War” where, to summarize, three different alternate Tyrias are fighting a war, seeing the other two as “pure evil forces” that must be defeated. The main drive of the Mist War is two-fold: first, to gain resources for the fights against the Elder Dragons and other threats; as Tyria is effectively blockaded from most of the world, they have to go into the Mists to get external resources. Second, to defend their world and the territories they gained in the Mists from threats across the Mists (namely, the other two alternate Tyrias).

There is no repeating cycle like Dlarnkk is saying – I don’t know where he gets that. The only cyclic thing in the Mists is in Fractals – but that’s because of the nature of Fractals, not the nature of the Mists. WvW doesn’t occur on fractals.

The Mist War was not designed by Balthazar either – that’s scrapped pre-beta lore.

The Mists have more than McWolfy’s stated three entrances (I presume he refers to Lord Odran’s portals at Drascir, Tomb of the Primeval Kings, and the Battle Isles) but those three entrances were to the Hall of Heroes – somewhere we don’t go near in GW2. The asura are the ones who made the asura gates to the Mist War locations, sans Edge of the Mists which was made by the Aetherblades.

Edge of the Mists is slightly different from other WvW maps in that it was discovered by the Aetherblades as a place of retreat. Any Mist War occurrences there only followed that, and likely because it was just more resources to obtain.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Simple – We have to hold our fortresses to keep the Other Worlds from overrunning our defenses and flooding into our real world! And, to help defend our fortresses, we must drive the invaders back to their own worlds!
