what questions do you want answered?
So i want to compile a list of questions the community has about the lore of guild wars 1 and guild wars 2.
I will attempt to answer as many of these as possible, and will go and look through the games to find the answers
Obviously i wont be able to answer questions like whats gonna happen next(don’t let it stop you from asking though, speculation is fun), but any questions regarding the current release or anything prior, i will take a stab at finding it out.
What a misleading title.
Maybe Josh Foreman has a fanmail address.
Good thread, nice to have someone involved
My first question is not so much about lore per se, but related to it
Q1: Is there any NPC in GW2 that can retell me events of LS1. In details, like who are Braham and Rox, history of Scarlet etc etc… (I’ve missed out on LS1, and now LS2 is a bit confusing)
Q2: What is Queen Jennah’s last name?

Well i think there is already a consolidated questions topic, so i didnt wanna make another.
I wanted to help people just getting into lore or people who may have had questions about stuff they found confusing.
my name is Josh… if that helps lol

Q2: What is Queen Jennah’s last name?
Those are great questions heh
Q2: As far as i know we dont actually know her last name. As of right now her lineage is actually something of an on going mystery.
What we do know is that she is descended from king Doric and that’s about it.
Here is a family tree showing the known descendants of king Doric
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tyrian_royalty_family_tree
There are a few popular theories at the moment regarding the queen
- She is not actualy of royal blood
This was mainly caused by the fact that in the living story season 2, we hear about a locket that is enchanted to always have an up to date image of the current royal … person ( sorry cant think of the word)
-She is actually an illusion conjured by countess Anise.
this one can get a bit crazy because there are lots of theories as to why she would do this. The theory i subscribe to is that countess Anise is actually a very powerful necromancer from guild wars 1 named Livia.
- Shes being controlled by countess Anise.
Countess Anise is supposedly a very powerful Mesmer, Mesmer’s have ability’s in the lore that they keep secret from most regular folk. One of these powers that is mentioned is the ability to create a clone that only one person can see.
This leads alot of people to believe that altering someones mind would be doable for a very powerful Mesmer.
As for Q1 its gonna take me a little bit of time to check a couple of places but i think there are bits and pieces in game. I believe there are some books in the Durmond priory and i think there may also be a bit of info in Scarlet’s 2 Bases/houses.
1 of them in dry top and the other is hidden in a cave behind a holographic wall in a cave near the priory(not actually alot in there)
A fair amount of info was learnt about these characters actually outside the game.
from short storys written by the devs.
Here is the first short story (this one is about Braham the Norn)
Links to the rest can be found at the bottom of that page in a purple box
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Braham%27s_Story
However not all of these focus on the actual living world they more provide background to the characters.
If you enjoy reading there is alot of information on the GW2 wiki.
And if you enjoy videos i would suggest checking out wooden potatoes on youtube
he has alot of good lore videos as well as usually doing a round up of current living story events ( so at the time it would have been the season 1 releases)
TL:DR
Q1: Not really but, little bits yes.
Q2: We currently are unsure
If you have any more questions or if i havnt explained well enough feel free to leave a reply with what you want and ill be more than happy to try to help. ^^

Thanks alot, really like those theories you presented
No problem ^^
if there is ever anything else do not hesitate to ask heh
Ok i have a few new questions
1. How come Bloodstone was need in order for humans to be given magic? I mean, magic existed before, and there are other magic wielders and other sources of magic in the world (if I am correct)
2. How are the Doors of Komalie kept shut? Shouldn’t there be some sacrifices for the soul batteries in order to keep the gates shut?
3. How come Flame Legion came into a contact with titans if they were kept in the Realm of Torment?
ohhhh yay more questions
let me do some research and ill get back to you
Q1: Yes you are correct magic did exist in the world before the bloodstone and the arival of the gods.
So in order to tell you how this all happened we have to go back to the last raising of the elder dragons.
About 10,000 years ago while the elder dragons still slept they seeped magic into the world(the magic they had devoured from there last awakening) however this wasnt like the magic we know today on tyria. It was unrestrained magic and very powerful
and this was used by the great races of there time.
The dwarves, forgotten, jotun, mursaat, and seers.
And everything was fine until the fire nation attacked until the Elder dragons arose to devour the magic of the world once more and ultimately cause untold destruction across the lands of Tyria.
In order to combat the dragons the dwarves, forgotten, jotun, mursaat, and seers all worked together to find a solution.
Their solution? This was devised by the Seers. They intended to create a great seal that all the races of tyria would poor their magic into effectively cutting it off from the elder dragons. So even if they couldnt beat the elder dragons, at least this magic would remain safely locked away in this great seal until a time where the elder dragons where no longer a threat (either destroyed or returned to sleep)
Now this seal was called the Bloodstone.
However the plan didnt fully work out. One of the 5 races, the Mursaat, refused to add their magic to the seal.
Instead, using what magic they had, they slipped into whats described as a half world, out of phase with Tyria. Leaving the other races to fend for themselves.
Now fast forward a few thousand years.
The elder dragons have returned to sleep (dont know why yet)
The four remaining races are greatly weakened,
And Tyria is looking pretty destroyed.
This is when the gods come along and decide to start re shaping tyria while also bring new races to it.
While this is happening they build the great city of Orr and hide all evidence of the last raising of the elder dragons beneath it in great vaults (including the bloodstone)
Now at the time the humans call year 0 (the begining of their calender)
One of the gods named Abbadon decided he would open up this seal (the blood stone) and releasing the magic inside, and gifting it to the races of Tyria.
now the thing is, there was still magic in the world before this, as the dragons had begun seeping magic into the world again.
As well as the five weakened races that still possessed magic however very little of the power they once had remained.
Now when abbadon released the magic into the world again, (remember this was incredibly powerful magic and much stronger than what we use currently)
the new more primitive races like man, charr, ect went to war causing untold chaos across Tyria.
So the King of the humans at the time, a man named King Doric begged the gods to take back their gift.
And so the magic was once again put back inside the bloodstoone and sealed with king Dorics blood.
(now there are theories that perhaps his descendants have some sort of link or power over the bloodstone
Perhaps the Royal Family is more Powerful because of it?
However this is just speculation.)
Now when the gods resealed the bloodstone apparently they actually added more magic to it from the surrounding area (probably from a dormant zaihtan)
Then they split it into five pieces.
(another theory is there is actually six pieces ( perhaps 1 for each elder dragon or perhaps each god))
Now the blood stone from my understanding is made up of the 5 pieces each representing something different
there was one shard of the bloodstone called the key stone and this piece would be needed if you ever wanted to reassemble the bloodstone
The other four parts each represented a different school of magic.
Preservation
Denial
Destruction
and Aggression
and now the races of Tyria could only access 1 school of magic at a time.
(now this was in guild wars 1 and from the understanding the humans had of the bloodstone at the time, in guild wars 2 very few people believe in this sort of model anymore.
The elder dragons have been seeping magic into the world again (unrestricted magic) and the races have been able to develop new magics)
A good source if you like videos(has a bit more than just the answers to this question and has some speculation regarding season 2):

and for those more reading inclined:

TL;DR
so long story short Humans could probably always use magic but there wasnt always enough in the world for them to use it like they currently do.

okay ima take a break before the next questions lol that was a long one
OK, thanks a lot for you time and effort
I’d like to know what parts of GW1 lore can be safely ignored as obsolete.
