Except that the old Personal Story doesn’t change, and the dungeon isn’t going away. Orr suffers from MMO syndrome: frozen in time despite what the plot says and can’t quite move on. It’s in a state of flux, like Schrodinger’s Cat: Orr is both corrupted and cleansed at the same time, depending on how far in the story you are.

But LA is broken when you play trough PS?

Well, it shouldn’t be. Personal Story takes place in 1325 AE. The attack didn’t occur before 1327. It just appears that way because of how ANet builds their instances.

They might have considered keeping a unique copy of the old map for Personal Story purpose, but it would drastically increase the file size of the game beyond what most players need.

That said, I really really really hope they change their policy on that. I’d rather spend an extra gig or two to show the proper version of maps while playing through PS. Right now it’s a big mess and “unimmersive”.

I think ANet has given up on the idea of the overarching Living World where the world physically changes based on the current story. Season 2 limited all overworld changes to small outposts or the new maps. I get the feeling that Orr will be left in a timefreeze like most of GW1’s maps.

GW1 do in fact have time based maps. Pre- and post-searing is the best (and only) example of a full change. But there are also minor changes made to maps while you progress through War in Kryta.

Mostly, only appearing NPCs change, but the Shining Blade Camp is an example of a more “drastic” change. Every map in GW1 is instanced, so it kinda makes you wonder why they didn’t do more such changes, but I think it lies mostly on the technical side (disk usage) (?).

Because in order to have maps with variations on them they have to have an entirely separate copy of that map which takes up even more space in the .dat, when you start doing it for a lot of maps then you’re increasing the size of the client by quite a bit. With GW2 they’re also reluctant to do it because it would split the player base on each map up even more because while there might be x number of players in Lions Arch, they may be split in half with only a small number on the old version of it (making the game look like a wasteland for new players) and the rest on the new version.

They just really shouldn’t have tampered with maps that have such a big role in the personal story.

I don’t think they can ever cleanse Orr, not unless they trash the entire personal story or create multiple copies on Orr, which lets face it would just make it hell for anyone doing the personal story because there would be very few people to help them out with group events, temple events, champion bosses, etc.

A single map isn’t going to be that big of a difference when all the props are likely still in the game.

I too hope they change their policy on that. They only need to do such for 2-4 maps, really. And in most cases, they don’t need the full map thanks to this wonderful thing call instance boundaries.

It’d still be nice if the instances use the old map. Just slap a little message on top of the screen like when you did pre-port missions in GW1. “You are about to witness events that have already happened.”

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

ok……………let me start over since people are getting away from the point xD……
This is a new expansion…………..
Depending on how the other game ended, it will have to happen in the new expansion, they have apparently been working on this for a long time, kind of expecting orr to be changed o.o

We haven’t lost the point. We are stating that Orr is a struggle between the undead and the Pact, both in all of its events and in the Personal Story. Having Orr be cleansed in HoT would mean that they’d need to completely rebuild Orr and create all new dynamic events and find some solution to keep the Personal Story intact.

In other words: in ain’t gonna happen. If you’re expecting it to be cleansed, you’ll be disappointed.

Consider me pretty disappointed then……..I am all in for new stuff, the only thing I am looking forward for is the mastery system and guild hall tbh, the way that you can learn languages by obtaining them seems pretty cool, and since I already got the best gear out there, the whole zerging around SW like map will be ultra worthless for me since I only get the money I need, if I dont see myself spending gold on something online I will probably use it on gems like before ascended came out and also because precursors will be free.

What I want is an experience with the change of the world, small civilizations we see now just starting growing bigger, places which were locked up before to open (ofcourse not the new civilization places, but in general just all the “work in progress” places).

ANet hasn’t really delivered on the simultaneous telling of multiple storylines throughout the world’s recent history as far as I’m aware (aside from Job-O-Tron). There are a lot of factions, organization, and individual characters that should be having events going on their lives through the past couple of years, but so far, if the PC isn’t involved, then it’s frozen in time or hidden from us entirely.

It’s kinda the same issue with LA still broken and Kessex Hills with the tower. I’m sure Anet wants to change them for the new players who cleared Orr, blew up the tower in Kessex and killed you-know-who in LA’s breach without taking away the experience from the new players. That being said a separate instance of the map prior to the events happening would be a bit of a problem seeing the scale of the maps themselves plus the possible file size you’d get if it did happen.

Necro Jesus is a thing apparently
The Zerker Bunker meta is the biggest bug in the game

Orr will be cleansed. Lore-wise. The expansion won’t take place in Orr though, so we’ll never get to see it.

Keep in mind that in Guild Wars, time is locked to place and vice versa. Orr only exists in 1325. Its state in 1328 may well have changed, but only through characters mentioning it.

Never is a long time.

There’s also parts of Orr that don’t have maps yet – one could have maps in those locations showing a partially or entirely cleansed Orr without reworking the original maps.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
