One time event, yet no consequences
Well a kraka did run off with the lighthouse.
The change is the fact that we now have a whole new zone.
well, dicovering a new area, isnt change on my view, the area was always there, so, nothing changed ….
the only change was that the lighthouse it’s now half his original size =/
Everyone in Lion’s Arch caught crabs at the same time (though you’d figure aphids would be a bigger problem for the Sylvari). The public health implications are going to be huge and far-reaching. There will probably be informational pamphlets being handed out all over the place.

Yeah, when you donate enough to Lionguard Lyns she gives out the pamphlet.
I was wondering this as well.
What other changes happened in Tyria? Adding a new (but comparatively tiny) explorable zone is not what the hype lead me to believe would be the outcome of these changes that would persist “forever!”
I also don’t consider new recipes and three new materials to be part of this hyped up change.
What I expected was something larger in scale: new pervasive mobs or mob types, a new class, a new playable race, some new utility skills, a new elite skill, permanently-changed world geometry on a larger scale than a missing lighthouse or other such game-jarring things. Not all of those things, but something along those lines.

There are new mobs, new mob types, and a level 80 zone (with access to T6 mats) unlocked. Willful ignorance on your part?

No.
I said ‘pervasive’, implying that they were, say, causing a ruckus elsewhere in the world or perhaps the new mobs’ design and behaviors implied updates or changes to existing mobs. Something significant and far-reaching.

people really need to stop saying this lol, the zone has been there the whole time, they led us to believe that tyria was gonna be changed, something HUGE……..southsun cove isnt huge…….it is a gimmick, that failed horribly.
The one time event itself didn’t change anything though, there’s still karka on the island, the zone looks the same etc.
Anet reasoned that they want one time events to be meaningful and change the world and that making them repeat would lessen the impact but if there’s no impact to begin with that explanation doesn’t hold up.
A new group called the consortium showed up, and changed Tyria forever. We now have all new holiday destination (southsun cove) and a new asura gate to random locations for adventure (fractals)
Table Warfare Miniatures - Armatures, Custom Miniatures, Moulds etc.

Big whoop lol, if it was just a new cool dungeon and a small itty bitty zone………why advertise it like it was gonna blow our minds? LOL that doesn’t even qualify to change tyria forever lol

Maybe I missed it, but how did the Consortium change Tyria forever?

No, the zone did NOT exist in Tyria until we all downloaded it (along with the karka monster type) with November 15 patch. It is brand new in the online world of Tyria, because only five days ago, it did not exist.
I suspect that you are looking for the impact of the Lost Shores event on Guild Wars lore. There is an answer to that, but it is admittedly a little contrived:
Lion’s Arch was attacked by an ancient race deep-sea creatures called the karka, driven on by an Ancient Karka, and provoked by a shady organization called the Consortium. After staving off the Karka invasion in Kryta and the Maguuma Jungle, the Lionguard (aided by many citizens from Lion’s Arch and volunteers from all over Tyria, including several famous heroes) ventured to the karka homeland of Southsun Cove, and managed to kill the Ancient Karka, thus ending the threat to the rest of Tyria for now. Meanwhile, the Consortium is exploiting the island as a holiday beach resort, and their (former) employee Canach, who is widely held accountable for irresponsibly endangering Lion’s Arch, is still at large.
Lion’s Arch will mourn the loss of its major casualty: the old lighthouse.
Will this do?

———————————————————————————————
There was plenty added. Not to mention the fact that this is on the heels of a great Halloween event that added content as well.
Oh, and btw, you paid zero for this additional content.
…and the game has only been out less than 2 months.
Did you actually check out the new zone? I’m quite frankly amazed they were able to put out such a quality zone in such a short amount of time. It’s amazingly gorgeous. Their art and design teams need a freaking medal for being able to pull it off.
I don’t know why this ungrateful and gimme gimme attitude is so pervasive…if you really are so unhappy and jaded, why hang around?
Kudos ANet…despite the rough issues through phase 1 & 2, phase 3 was a blast and the content looks great. Here’s to many more events in the future.
Sad fact is you cannot have events dictate effects on the world. Because there are different instances of the server which can all reach different outcomes. So there cannot be a side effect of our actions that is not already laid out.

Is any of this reflected in game? Karka are still at large and there’s no sign of the consortium doing anything there.

The Consortium IS there…they have a few locations where they’re pimping it out as a vacation resort….why not go check it out for yourself?

I’m there right now and I’m quite sure everything looks the same as it did before the event…
Point Pride and Pearl Islet have sunbathing tourists (housed in the same shipwrecks and ruined hovels that were there earlier – one tourist is even complaining about it), with Consortium vendors standing nearby.
We can’t really do much, but it’s a funny picture.
Unless it all got reverted with today’s maintenance-only patch.

You weren’t there before the event.

I’m talking about the final event from last night that a lot of people missed. The event anet won’t repeat because they want people to feel like they had an impact on the world. After which the zone just resets to it’s default pre event state so there was no significant impact anyway.

Oh, the one that was advertised for weeks before hand that it would be a one time event?
And Tyria was changed, as has been stated many times on the forums. (The zone wasn’t there before the event and is there now….Change!) I’m sorry that they didn’t produce a before, during and after version of the zone, with a “Sims” like feel that you could interact with and determine exactly how you wanted it to play out.
Maybe this just isn’t the game for you.

So what was the point of making it one time only again?
Shinzin, this weekend was a bonus bit of one time game play, designed to introduce some new content. The key word being ‘introduce’. It was a one time event because it was building lore for new content.
Arenanet ‘could’ have just added the new area, creatures, pet, items, recipes and the fractals dungeon with no associated event at all. A mail sent to your character with a bit of storyline would have introduced it fine, most games would have gone that way.
Would that have made you happier?

The cove was a tranquil place, the consortium stirred the karka… or did something to bother them can’t remember. Now the new zone is infested with karka. We killed the queen so a big scale invation was prevented.
The change is that the cove is now infested with karka.
