I think this is a general consensus honestly.
At range they are an absolute joke but if you get within ~700 range of them they just mess you up and all you can do is watch yourself die because you’re incapacitated and/or confused so you’ll kill yourself.
Name one melee-centric class that doesn’t have at least a 900 ranged option or two or three.

They also enjoy traveling it groups. I keep seeing this one escort fail (not a group event) because 5 of these drakes converge on the NPC’s and poor unsuspecting player(s). The broodmother herself is NOTHING compared to them. In fact, when working on that event, it was two of her babies respawning that killed my party of two.
This place is overall not worth the time and repairs.

hehe Yeah, drakes are tough yet when you get the pet its extra weak. Dies faster then most of my other pets, even against its own kind.

Lets TRY and not be elitist here, ok so they suck at range, that doesnt mean you should deride folks that get ambushed by one in melee range or has one spawn on top of them while fighting one at range…. you know the times when YOU DONT HAVE A CHOICE BUT TO DIE…

Oh yeah I stay clear of those things. It’s their gas cloud attack that will get you in like one hit. It doesn’t seem like they should be that powerful. Wiped 5 of us in seconds. But I think we were like “Oh look at those… lets pet one.”
Reef drakes have a 14 second Confuse
And yes, they can indeed stack it, repeatedly, within that 14 seconds.
It seems to also be bugged (or Confuse in general is) as it also does damage to my engineer during a dodge roll.
No one can bleed off that much sustained Confusion.
Never mind that they wander around the start area, while the nuisance known as shelks hide out elsewhere…
Reef drakes = Pet of Rangers, my guildie found one. So up to you if you wants nerfs.

Nonsense. I play a thief as one of my 80 mains, both for soloing in Orr and for dungeon running. Pistols have 900 range and Scorpion Wire has 1200 range. I had no problem fighting reef drakes solo with my thief.

Lol, not. P/P = 900 range plus full time blindness. SB = 900 range and full-time weakness with Lotus Poison trait. And scorpion wire = 1200 range if two drakes are too close together and you want to split pull one without social-aggroing the other.
Yeah, these Reef Drakes and the Young Karkas who knock my health down by 1/3 on their opening attack are good reasons not to go to Lost Shores anymore after the big event.
Now I agree high level mobs should’nt be easy but when only TWO of them can rapidly kill a Warrior with heavy armor, 24k health and over 1600 toughness in a few seconds, that’s too much.
I’ll save on repair costs and go someplace nicer, like Cursed Shores.
D/D acrobatic thief here, I hunted solo the new mobs for fun.
(As a lot of players do).
Karkas are ok, even if their ranged attack salve is too long and near impossible to chain dodge if you are in range, it does have an animation and can be interrupted.
Reef drakes attacks are really broken, making the fights unpredictable even after trying to learn how to fight them (unless range kiting from very far yeah ok).
-Retreat hits are too fast for the damage it does. It needs an animation. We need a chance to dodge or interrupt it.
-The confusion ae fires immediately (in combo?). Making the red circle warning useless (there’s a pack of smoke created at the spot anyway). Add a casting time. We need a chance to dodge or interrupt it.
-Tail Swipe is a ranged attack?! Seriously? Sonic attack of invisible force kung-fu? I would suggest reducing its range or add a visible projectile (a wave of force?). However it have an animation at least.
I think its important that mobs retain some credibility and visibility in their powerful attacks.
Attacks able to deal over 10k damage should have an animation and a casting time.
