Q:
Seeking for the best fix
the mess can only be fix by deleting what ppl get from the chest, and re-implement the event another time. Also I think precursor should remain very very rare.
I think that making sure future events go smoothly is more important than retroactively trying to “fix” Lost Shores. So I’d like to see ANet prioritize learning from this experience.
Most important aspect of that, in my opinion, is to take steps to ensure that their server capacity can handle what they’re trying to implement. I think it’ll take a combination of better stress testing, judicious use of instancing and/or temporarily lowering population caps per server, and probably separating free preview events from in-game events until/unless they improve their ability to handle crowds of people.
IMO the fix for this is very simple and I hope Arenanet has learned it:
- 5 man instances as event locations (with a one time completion bonus/limited time its open). This will allow everyone to complete the event in their own pace with friends.
- New raid instances for 10-20 people. Gather a larger group and do the event. Same basics the above, just tuned for more people.
World events should only be “you really want to see this and experience it, but it doesnt ruin anything if you happen to miss it as the main event is an instance” type events.
Yes.
Its that simple.
No more one time events…ever
Its not an awesome epic thing if the entire oceanic community gets to miss out every single time because the event is always at 3am. That’s just alienating that community.
Make all events available for at LEAST 24hrs (on an american saturday, which ensures its on the weekend for the aussies to) And make it so the chest drop is account bound.
This should also help with the lag because not everyone will be trying to get on all at the same time.
1: Make these events go on for an entire 24 hours, not one time.
2: If that event has serious problems (like this one did) that stops people from participating then fix it and extend it another 24 hours.
3. If the above does not work, find some other way to ensure the people who went all the way through the event but couldn’t finish due to bugs and such get rewarded. Some of us like myself did it multiple times, only to have it DC or crash at the end and never get and reward. I even got friends to come play for the first time, and they were not impressed…
What I would have liked would have been if the Event had been available at two set times so that anyone who doesn’t make it to one of the event times they can try go to the other.
To fix farming issues make it so that the Event can only be done once per Account and not per character.
Also have the reward from the Event mailed to the Account for completing the event rather than having to open a box, that way even if you DC’d you get rewarded for the participation.
As for the Fractals, Players DCing and not being able to rejoin the party is a bit ridiculous. If this was done to prevent people from farming the reward chests per Fractal with multiple players, then again the reward should just be mailed to the participating players.
An Officer Pleb.
Just realise how many people are going to be involved and manage the whole thing better.. I dont care in the end who gets what out of the box at the end but I do want a simple thing like culling to work in such away I can see the bloddy enemy.. I do expect the server side to be managed so its not a lag fest..
They know now how many people will attend, no excuse for it to happen again.
I think bringing out events like the last one is ok as long as everyone gets a fair chance to be a part of it.
Lags, bugs and disconnections are huge problems, but not as big a problem as getting kicked off the game and not being able to get back to where the person was left off. A simple solution for that is.. don’t kick the player off the server if something caused them to disconnect from the game. Give them time to log back in (like 10 mins) so they can continue from where they left off and not gotten thrown to another sever and destroyed all their progress.
And instead of a big chest on the ground at the end, mail the chest (character bond) for those people who participated in the event so it cannot be exploited.
These one time events were too important for explaining the reason why we are at this island in the first place. The events were the introduction to the enemy. The events should be converted into a personal story quest chain for story telling purposes. I didn’t do these events, so I was very lost when I first went to the island. New players of this game in the future that explore this content will more than likely be even more lost than I am.
My advice for future events is that one time events shouldn’t be an introduction to a new threat. One time events should be for showing us a threat that has already been explained and will continue to be explained for as long as they are still a threat.
How does everyone thinks about what we have now and requires what kind of fix to this “mess” ANet has created? What’s the first priority they should fix? How should they run this kind of event in the future? Please state your opinion and points. Fast and short.
First priority of compensation should go to those that disconnected without reward at the final phase of the event.
Second priority of compensation should then go to Asian/Oceanic timezones that had difficulty in error 32/49 log-in server/client issues that were unable to participate or did but shortly disconnected on the event.
There should be no compensation for those that chose to sit it out or are requesting to ban half of the community because they are pompously jealous of the rare/exotic drops.
In fact the only ones that deserve a ban are themselves.
If they decide to repeat this event, they should do a minimal run of it with lesser drops than provided at first to make it fair for those that spent over 6 hours working their way through the entire event chain.
Every bug that everyone has had, has given them data to prepare for the next event. Next time, more community individuals should act in providing information just like a few had so that more can actively benefit from the event and not focus too much on spoils.
ADDED: There should also be no roll-back whatsoever. Just because some angry people are kitten jealous at everyone that participated should force those that participated a slap in the face .

Rollback.
Arena Net would never do it, but that’s the only thing that could truly ‘fix’ this.
They should have held off on this patch and all of the content, fractals included, and bug-fixed/balanced the classes, PvP, WvW and dungeons for another 6 months. Actually have a working base game before you go adding new stuff that makes everything everyone has done in the game up until now obsolete.
It’s probably the biggest clusterkitten I’ve ever seen in an MMORPG.
