Well I am really late with posting that, but I am gonna talk about Trailers structure and differences in Trailers and in Episodes. Then I will post my opinion about them.

1) Flashpoint
-in trailer Kasmeer says: “What should we do”, but in episode she say: “What should we… How should we be prepared”
-in trailer Kasmeer’s reaction is nothing what we saw in episode- in trailer she says: “No, it can’t be” and her reaction is soft. But suddenly in episode she is just collapsed: she says “(gasp)Balthazar!” They should not do something different here and here, because it confuses so much.

My opinion: Well these face animations etc are totally unnecessary, and I don’t know why the hell the reactions and words are different. There is not any logical explanation.

2) The Head of the Snake:
-the facial expression of Jennah is good, because we saw it in Episode, but I don’t know why they showed the face of the minister instead putting his voice and showing something different, like they did when Estelle spoke that she was chosen to kill Jennah. Well that turned this minister as the important character, and he was just another idiot and Caudecus’ puppet.
-Jennah did not say “Kryta will not be broken, Divinity’s Reach will not fall” in episode, so why the hell Anet did not add this words in episode?!

3)A Crack in the Ice:
-we see Rox when she is going to meet with Braham. But we did not meet with her and go with her to Braham. So it’s confusing that in trailer she was just going to Bitterfrost Frontier, but suddenly in episode she is with Braham and fights with him. Well it looks likecommander did not see Rox walking to the cave. And they could reach the Scroll while Commander was searching for a sample. So well, if Rox met Braham in Bitterfrost, and was said that Rox is going to Braham when we were training Aurene, so what the hell Braham and Rox were doing while commander was exploring the map. They was doing the same? So why didn’t we meet each other?
-and again Commander in trailer says: “So this is Jormag’s idea of paradise”, but in episode the Commander did not say this! So again why the hell we did not hear it in game?!

4)Rising Flames
-everything was good, but it sounds weird that 2 commanders are talking to each other. As we know we were talking with Asura, not another commander.

5)Out of the Shadows
-it was the 1st and the best trailer in LS3, after this the others were the worse.

My opinion/TLDR

Well I hate that they changed the model of trailers after first episode. They started to add the words who did not exist in episodes.

And I really do not like the facial expressions in trailer, because we just don’t see them in game (Jennah is an exception).

It looks like trailer and episode show totally different situation, things to come etc. I’ve never seen worst trailers in this game, only music is good and make the trailer epic, but I would love to hear a narrator (like in LS1,LS2).

Narrator would solve the problems in trailers, because the characters talking in trailer something different than in episode is just weird and nothing can explain this.

And something more:

Did you see this in 5th episode?
https://streamable.com/zo48y

No, they cutted it out from the episode: why? I totally do not understand why.

Leaving aside this talk of trailers, where did you get that footage from? Because what’s shown here is quite interesting and I’d like to know if there is more.

Mismatched footage and voiceovers are really common in trailers, both game and movie. As is details in a trailer ending up cut from the final product. That’s just a fact of life regarding trailers, partly for marketing/dramatic impact and partly from trailers being made before the product is finished.

But Tanner. ANet had much much better trailers in LS2, they were absolutely great designed. And the narrator voice was just amazing.

I can’t understand why ANet suddenly after 1st amazing trailer for ‘out of the shadows’ changed everything.

From the normal trailers, who was showing something to come, they changed it to make everything complicated.

Watch LS2 trailers and LS3. I am almost sure you will like LS2 ones more.

At least they did not hide that Rytlock is gonna free Ascalon from Foefire. And it still hyped players even if they knew that it will come.

So well, the LS3 trailers are just trash imo. And if I compare LS3’ trailers with LS2’ I am just: what the hell happened with you ANet?!?!

EDIT: and btw- this is the best trailer they’ve ever done in my opinion: Echoes of the Past

That footage of episode 5, instead of mercenaries Balthazar had the white mantles..? Maybe Anet cut it since they decided to replace the white mantles with mercenaries? And also yeah i agree, looking back now season 2 does have a different feel for the trailers compared to the current ones

That is a problem with LS3 storytelling in a nutshell. In LS3 the writers decided to surprise the players all the time to generate hype and interest. And the best ways to do it are: 1) misleading trailers; 2) plottwists for the sake of plottwist. I miss the old times when trailers showed what actually will be in the game and plot twists were more predictable, but at least had logic storywise.

I truly cannot believe that people are now having problems with different wording by characters in trailers and in-game. The scene of Balthazar’s reveal is perfect for trailer of this episode. Do you expect them to have Kasmeer say his name in the trailer? I do not think so. And in-game balthazar has to be named, because many players may not jump straight to confusion that we are looking at one of the human Gods. I completely understand ArenaNet doing that and I won’t mind if they do that in the future.

@OP: You are wrong. The footage used in the trailers is exactly the same as in the actual episodes, it’s the cut that makes things appear different than they actually are. Just shows how a cut can change the perception of content completely and deceive people.

All the dialogue used in the trailers can be found one on one in the respective story missions. The same goes for facial expressions, they just look more cinematic in the trailers due to camera zoom and angle — that’s why it’s called a cinematic.

Well if you don’t see problem, it’s your worry. It’s pretty weird. If they would use this model in LS2’ trailers, then you would not hear “Ascalon I free you from this curse”, and you would hear “No, it can’t be” instead (just for example)

I am not saying that they should put the true Kasmeer’s reaction when she says “Balthazar!”…. But it’s some kind of lying in trailers and generating hype.

You really can’t see the problem? In trailer for Flashpoint Kas has totally DIFFERENT reaction, different words, everything was different, she says: “it can’t be” but suddenly in the episode she just: IT’S BALTHAZAR!! I AM TOTALLY BROKEN!

So this is what I am talking about: IT’S LYING to generate hype.

But if they would not hide everything and do something like in ’Dragon’s Reach part 1’ that Rytlock actually says the huge thing that he is gonna cleanse Ascalon from Foefire, they would make it different and Kas would actually reacts about Balthazar and say: “Balthazar!” But I am totally aware that it’s totally different situation, because it was revealing of secret, so they just used the lie to make people even more CONFUSED.

I just miss the old amazing trailers, LS3 is the biggest disappointment for me, I see some possitives, but these misunderstanding, this keep hyping people, these secrets, everything is just annoying, starting to be boring.

You can focus on possitive things, and good for you, but don’t say to me that I am not right, because I see problems, and you don’t. And you proved it with your post.

No many can’t be found in the episodes (It can’t be, Kryta will not be broken DR will not fall). They were used to as you said “deceive people”, what for me is just ordinary lying by ANet.

Well I zoomed Jennah while she was speaking during her speech, one of her “reaction” looked like vomiting. (I advise you to see how Jennah behaved during her “emotional speech”). Ok if I am talking about here emotions in trailer and the episode, she is just a totally different person:
in trailer she is: We will smash away Caudecus, Kryta won’t be broken!!! Go ministers and fight for Kryta!!
but suddenly in episode she is: oh my dear ministers, this situation is temporary, so I just have to keep you here for your safety.

2 totally different scenarios for one episode, things to come started to be something possible to come. THEY ARE NOT TRAILERS. How could this man who is creating trailers made something absolutely bad, something what doesn’t give any answer, just awful generating of hype with lying (as I said), if you do not see the problems, you can treat everything what I wrote and the hard proofs I showed in this topic as trash and you are doing it well.

That is NOT true, though. They were all in there. Either in cutscenes or other moments during the missions.

Kas says “It can’t be!” when Balthazar’s illusion shatters. “Kryta will not be broken, DR will not fall” all said by the Queen during her speech. And so on. I played all of S3 again just yesterday.

First of all, this trivial thing of words being different is not a thing of “worry” for me. I think it’s just not anything important that we should focus on.

Also I think you use a terrible example of Rytlock’s quote. We hear “Ascalon, I free you from this curse!” and what do we get while playing? Rytlock is taking just a couple of ghosts to the mists. That was quite a huge disappointment for me back then.

Stop exaggerating. Kasmeer is not yelling that she is broken. During the reveal both in the trailer as in the game she is shocked and surprised, so the general theme of her reactions is the same. So in the end we get a similar reaction in the trailer that uses different words in order to not reveal Lazarus’s identity, but still is generating hype, because that’s what a trailer should do. If you feel like ArenaNet are lying to us by basically changing a couple of words in an understandable way (at least for me) then I respect your opinion, but honestly for me it’s ridiculous. And I didn’t feel confused (you put emphasis on that word as if players were overwhelmed by that thing) by any of that. I never said you are wrong, I do not agree with your opinion though. And don’t say that “you see problems when I don’t” like you were enlighened here or something. From my perspective you are looking at problems where these do not exist.

Well now I disagree with your “disappointment” with Rytlock. I think it was huge thing for the story. I don’t care he doesn’t want to say what he saw now, but I read “Ghosts of Ascalon” and this was just an amazing ending of this story.

Also Kas wanted to kneel before Balthazar, than defend her fiancee. So she was obviously broken as I said. It was not like in the final encounter with Scarlet when Jory got shanked really badly. But well it was the god… It’s not fault of Kasmeer, but she left Jory, Commander, that was really weird, but in the some way understandable for me.

Anyway. The point of the everything I wrote is that ANet changed the model of trailers and I don’t know it is good. You can see me as someone who just complaining about anything ANet does, but it’s not true. LS3 is totally different than anything we saw and characters also changed after HoT- one year changed everyone- allies became enemies, the people we tricked as enemies are the most loyal persons now (I am adding “ies”, “people”, “s”, but there is only 1-2 characters, who changed.).

Everything in LS3 is just chaotic, I understand why: 2 dragons, Caudecus, Lazarus, Braham, Marjory does what she wants, Aurene.

And it’s not like I don’t like the trailers, I just don’t understand why the people are saying the things they didn’t say in episode.

The biggest disappointment in the Head of the Snake was that after watching the trailer I saw the proud Queen, who doesn’t care about anything and saying to her ministers, that they are going to fight for Kryta, and suddenly in the episode it’s totally different, than I expected…. She was just “stay calm ministers”.

I only liked the Head of the snake, because Demmi came back! she is my favorite female character, well didn;t expect she would die…. but mentioning Tybalt couple times was amazing and she will be always an amazing character to me.

Goodness I am still getting far from the point of the topic.

For me it’s problem, because the trailer of LS3 give me totally different feelings than the trailers before. It is like Jennah said: “do a thing one person likes and three hate you for it.” I am glad ANet is changing in storytelling etc, but it confuses me, gives different feelings in episodes and I don’t know the generating of hype is good, but well they had to do this, because we are getting episodes every 2-3 months, it’s really big space between episodes.

And for me it’s the big thing we should worry of, because ANet changes and now I just have a lot of doubts it will make this game better, or worse.

After LS2 the hype of players was rising, rising, rising and I am afraid that after this keep hyping people during LS3 is going to tire people and they will be like: “ehh too much hype, I don’t wanna feel like a toy” or something.

MO said that ep 5 was important, but every episode was important and some of them were more important than ep 5 for me. I thought they were going to give something more, some surprises in the open world or something.

But for me the finale of LS3 will be the most important thing, because it will show where ANet goes, where story goes.

I am just afraid….
