A Polite Request
Well if you intend on getting the LS s.2 than you can invite your friends to your party and do LS with that. They will experience S2 but no rewards . And you can unlock it with ingame currency , if you have a bunch of gold, convert to gems, buy episodes , problem solved. ( and it’s not a pay-wall when you 1) got it for free and 2) see the gold→ gems above)
Now i don’t see LS as a big deterrent as the HoT the content of S2 is quite small compared with that they announced at PAX , and probably the price will be proportional. Anyways the base game alone is worth more than 10 euros/bucks.
I would have thought that new players had everything unlocked for free too. Kinda dissapointed that they have to gem up to do the LS. I hope it is a feature that is forgotten.
I know that the deal of last weekend is a steal, but it would not do Anet any good in the feel good department if they have to gem to get the LS episodes.

Do players that just bought an MMO not have to pay for all the additional content they developers added over time? I know if someone just bought WoW today they would have to buy all the added expansions to get to play the full game. The same logic applies to this.
LS2 might not have been anywhere near an expansion, but it was added content. The good thing about it though, is the only thing your missing if you don’t buy it is the story content and their related achievement and rewards. You can still play in the new areas, and if someone is nice enough; they can run you through the story missions you missed.
If someone wants to spend the $20 just to unlock the LS rewards and achievements, that’s up to them.

Maybe they’ll open it up when people buy the expansion?
Anyway, if you’re new you shouldn’t care about it that much. Just play the game first, to lv 80 and finish the personal story. No matter what, until we have season 1 back there’ll be a hole in the story for newer players.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!

The problem is that because the terminology is different the conception and understanding is also different. That is, because LS Season 2 wasn’t packaged together into a boxed release and not called an expansion people won’t intellectually be able to liken S2 to a WoW boxed expansion. Granted S2 is probably closer to DLC.
From my perspective it’s a question of how to achieve a goal.
Gamers currently have a wide variety of F2P games to chose from. And all of those games have a business model that allows them to make money off of their players. Some of them have been quite successful. At the same time, most of these games don’t make you pay-to-play certain portions of the game. Currently, I think the cost for this content is too high, both in gems and in gold, and particularly for new players.
I’m trying to convince friends I’ve made in those other games to come over to what I believe is a better game, with a similar business model. I think ArenaNet is trying to draw in new players as well, and so I made my request. I still think it would be a good idea to make this one change, even if it’s only for a short while —during a “recruiting drive” perhaps.
It’s a simple request, and I’d like them to consider it.
