Account-Based Magic Find
In the near future, we’ll detail the system we’ll use to replace the existing magic find items. Our goal will be to have as little disruption as possible to those who currently own items with a magic find stat on them.

I agree. Also what about some of us who have spend hard earning laurels and fractals relics on ascended gear that have magic find? Those items took a very long time to grind and now the stats are removed?
They didn’t specify that you’d simply lose the stat. It’s fair speculation that it’ll be migrated into some other stat. Some folks will like the change, others will hate it. But “change” is the nature of the game, and has always been promoted as a mechanic of the game.
There are plenty of posts already complaining about it, but the fact is, we don’t know what’s going to happen. We do know, however, that the concept of not having to choose between being more powerful or having higher magic find is generally considered to be a decent shift.
I, too, have a lot invested in MF gear, including ascended gear. In the end, though, it’s just a game. The minute I decide I can’t have fun because of changes, I’ll stop playing. I don’t feel like this is going to be something that ruins my fun. It’s just going to be a shift in perspective, and maybe we’ll end up lucky in the end, and receive some new stat that will take the sting out of it. They do imply that they’re looking for a way to do just that…
As long as the system properly rewards people with account-wide MF concurrent or better than what they currently have, I don’t personally mind. If it ends up being less than though, I definitely won’t be a happy camper.
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”

I agree 100% I don’t want to loos my 135% MF!!!
Yes change can be good. It can also be bad!!
It would be awesome if all my toons had the same MF as my main, sure that would be great. IF that’s how they will do it?? A draw back is that now my permanent MF that I have set up is now going to have to be fed in order to keep up. So it will cost me more now than currently to maintain my MF, That’s a BAD change!
I have 6% Account-Based MF right now. On my lower level toons with consumables I can get almost 60% MF. It makes some difference but not enough that makes them very fun to play compared to my 135% toon.
If they would dump more loot and gold as I mentioned on another post
“Players WANT rewards, goodies, items….give it to them and they will stop finding ways to beat the system and actually play the game as you intended.”then MF would not be needed at all!
Example: (hope this is not a violation of anything)
my lvl2 Cleric in DDO earned 4 platinum, 6 gold, 83 silver and 42 copper for completing a single event. Platinum being the highest value. my LEVEL 2 character!
In GW2 getting silver is like pulling teeth, forget gold!!

Agreed, I think this is a big mistake. This is not helping the working force players that spent weeks / months earning something to have it chucked. And on top of that have to keep paying into the game by being forced to use consumables. What about those who don’t even do any crafting? Kinda leaves them out doesn’t it?
This fun game is becoming to much work to play!!!
Give those of use who work and spend hard earned cash on your game a break! Just dump the loot! Have veterans with chests also.

This is an absolutely fantastic change. Now people will actually wear proper gear instead of MF.
Current MF gear will be have its cost refunded, or will be changed at some kind of hand-over system.

DDO is like Zimbabwe according to this.
With this shift towards account-based magic find, and getting completely get rid of magic find that has been added to armor and weapons, it seems a bit unfair to certain people. There are some people (like myself) who have spent quite a bit of money to buy magic find stat items, so it seems as if the money spent on that will essentially disappear… Any thoughts?
maybe they will replace it with karma find then no one would care with infinite karma loops.

So true

I think you are misunderstanding their use of the word “consumables” (unless I am the one grossly misunderstanding). The way I’ve imagined it is not like, say, omnomberry bars, “eat this and you will gain x% magic find for x minutes.” I thought of it as one-time use, permanent magic find consumables that are rare and cannot be crafted. For example, think of the world ability points in WvW: you put 1 point into guard defense, the next little bar takes 3 points instead of 1 (or whatever). I’ve imagined it like that: eat one of these things, your MF will increase by 5%; in order to increase another 5%, you’ll have to eat 3 things.
They haven’t detailed the system they’ll use just yet, so we don’t know exactly how they’ll do it. If I have it close, then they probably shouldn’t have used the word “consumables” since it would be confused with the general, temporary stat boost consumables. If they really are going to be using the regular consumables… Well, that would be pretty sucky, considering the account bonus MF (which is still cool) only gives you maybe 1% for every thousand achievement points.
As long as the system properly rewards people with account-wide MF concurrent or better than what they currently have, I don’t personally mind. If it ends up being less than though, I definitely won’t be a happy camper.
I understand this… But if you think about, right now in the game if you wanted excellent magic find for every character, you would need to put in a lot of work to give them all high MF. If they take the MF for your single highest character and give it to every other character? That’s pretty generous, if you ask me. (I’m not trying to put down the amount of gold you spent & work you put in to get your character to a high MF. I’m just trying to point out that it’s unlikely for them to translate lots of work on one character into benefits for every character, especially if there are people out there who even put all that work into every character [they would certainly deserve high account MF more so than people who have only done the work for one character].)
My magic find armor, expensive as it has been, has already returned it’s investment several times over. Out with the old, in with the new!
