I am the only one who gets some insanely obvious “I come from the future!” vibes from Taimi? I have tried to prove my point in my guild and on my server, but all I get are half-hearted “Heh yeah maybe”s. Was just wondering if anyone else had made the same connections I had.

I don’t recall any references to anything even remotely hinting at time travel in anything said by Taimi or anyone around her. All I know is she is Asura and I don’t like Asura.

Add to that fact that she claims to know Brahm..

So no, you’re not crazy! That would make the story very interesting. I hope you’re right!

ever thought about the part that it’s not the future you have to look at, it’s the past.
what if they are a pre-society far more advanced then anyone in the world, after some certain dead events they were almost wiped out.
the only way to stay alive is to freeze them self in a cryo state to beat the problem of time, after 7000 years they awoken but some cryo pods were destroyed because of earthquakes and cave-ins.
now only a mare 50 are left, spread out throughout the world.

I’ve seen nothing to suggest this at all. I’d have thought if there was any connection, there would be a hint that she knew what Scarlet was about to do/unleash if she was from the future.

Her sudden appearance is in keeping with the sudden appearance with many of the other characters, incl Scarlet. I suspect it is little more than needing one of each race and making her “different” to the rest of her race in someway (like they did with Rox).

I ofc reserve the right to take back what I just said if she ever uses the words “Bad Wolf”…

post 2.0 since it didn’t want to let me to post.

My reasons were as follow:

1. Taimi’s golem (Scruffy, I believe?) is by far the most advanced piece of technology on the planet, rivaling and surpassing even Mr. Sparkles who is the pride of the world’s foremost Golemancer, Zojja. I mean just look at the kitten thing.

2. Taimi clearly states that she is Braham’s friend or at least will be soon. Either she is beyond creepy and has this sick obsession with Braham, or she literally does know they will be friends.

3. Taimi very succinctly and promptly tells everyone around that Scarlet is testing her Aethercannon and bringing troops in to power it. Testing her what? Her troops can DO that? First I have ever heard of it…Wonder how Taimi knew…

4. Taimi is incredibly eager to be “taken home” to Rata Sum. It shouldn’t be any kind of trouble to just walk up to a gate and pzzzapt wind up there. She insists though on a kind of escort, perhaps because the gates are not operational when she is from.

5. Her obsession with Scarlet is purely academic. She talks about her as if she were some kind of celebrity or famous person, going so far as False River to go and MEET her. Taimi is so detached from the current events one could even assume that she may know how it all turns out, or that it is ancient history for her. Regardless, she treats everything going on with a degree of aloofness one would show if what was going on around them really didn’t effect them at all, as if this were all some sort of vacation.

6. Taimi is called a progeny, the term for asuran youths, and treated as a child by Thackeray. While her screams for help and pleas to Braham were obviously meant to mock Logan and get Braham’s attention, she was obviously far from serious in her distress. If she is not in classes or apprenticing for a krewe then she is a huge anomaly and something quite out of the ordinary.

7. Anyone familiar with GW1 will remember the incredible number of in game references to current events and real world things. (Enadiz the Hardheaded, for example) I would place all my bets on the fact that Taimi is a direct reference to the Doctor Who phrase, “Timey-wimey stuff”.

That’s about all I got, I know some of its guessing an assumptions, but I hope against hope that I am right

It was mentioned somewhere that Taimi is Zojja’s apprentice or something like that. I’ve not heard Taimi mention Zojja once though. I’d be curious to know if Zojja can be found in the open world and perhaps she can shed some light. If she has no clue who Taimi is..then yes..it is strange that she just showed up out of nowhere and now is an important NPC.

Traditionally, (and I know this is difficult for some to understand) characters are given an introduction, a bit of background story, maybe even another NPC making some kind of reference to them, and then they are given lines and a part to play in the story. With Scarlet and Taimi they just…appear. If Zojja had an apprentice, do you not think it odd that this is the very first time she has ever been mentioned in over a year of gameplay?

Unless…. and this may sound crazy.. she JUST became an Apprentice of Zojja’s.

I will admit that it is weird that they just kinda had her pop up. I was hoping more for her to step forward and make more of an introduction in game. That part has been a little Meh in my opinion.

Hey, thanks for insulting me, Boreas. I guess you’d prefer a stilted “this is my new apparentice, Taimi.” “Hi there” Introduction, over someone just showing up. Do you get introduced to everyone who’s come into your life by someone you already knew, or do people just show up from time to time?

I support this.

On a side note, why is it that whenever an intelligent person, specializing in tech, shows up in the LS, some people automatically conclude that person must be from the future? Yes, dimensional (not time) travel was used in the Asura PS, because it was funny and it suited them. That doesn’t mean it would ever actually be part of the LS or other races PS.

Taimi is a progeny (asuran child) with superior intellect and sadly has scoliosis. She is obsessed with Scarlet Briar’s intellect and wish to follow her. Taimi’s golem Scruffy shelters her whenever she is in danger and it also serves as her transportation.

I don’t get the ‘futuristic’ vibe from Taimi. Too kitten smart for her own good? Oh yeah, most definitely.

Taimi does state that she is an orphan. She also states (in talking to Braham) that Zojja and Vorpp both take care of her, among others.

As for the tripe about ‘coming out of nowhere,’ meh, I had a whole rant, but I’ll condense it. Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. The same goes for story plot. Characters may exist, but until they come to the foreground, you’re not going to take notice. Taimi has a legitimate back story to support her emergence into the foreground.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Time Travel isn’t exactly something new to Guildwars

during the Asuran personal story it is possible to get a scenario in which you encounter yourself from an alternate future and defeat him/her

You also encounter your creations from the future in that mission which are the steam monsters hinting that your alternate future is the origin of these creatures

there are also several cases of looking into the past and future within Gw lore which more or less supports that time travel is a possible thing in the Gw universe

It wasn’t time travel. The Grand High Sovereign came from an alternate future from a parallel universe. The two universes might share some elements, but they aren’t the same.

Shodd and I conducted the final test on the upgraded Infinity Ball, which quickly turned into a dangerous and surreal fiasco: variant versions of ourselves from a parallel universe came through with an army of mechanical fiends, bent on conquering this world like they conquered their own. Fortunately, Zojja was there to help us fight them off. I don’t think Shodd learned his lesson yet, but I did: too much ego in a genius like too much arcano-static energy in your crystalline storage matrix- spectacular to behold, but it will inevitably blow up in your face.

— My story

It was basically the “Mirror, Mirror” episode from Star Trek.
