Am I the only one...
Caithe is fine, she was just confused about “her love” in the Nightmare Court, but she offers no harm to nobody but herself, you gotta worry with Zojja, she’s the unstable mind here.

Agreed.
Caithe is being worn down by making a huge effort, and getting cut down all the time by most of DE being childish. The one person offering her comfort is one of the bad guys, but also the person she loves. If she did join them, she’d still stop short and come back to join the fight. She can’t help herself, she is who she is, even if it’s wearing at her.
Zojja is looking for someone to blame for Snaff’s death. She refuses to believe that any of it could have been her or his fault, even though they were part of the team.
Logan and Rytlock may make a lot of noise, but they both privately blame themselves for Snaff and Glint dying. You can hear it during the argument in the Dream when Rytlock says he wasn’t able to protect Snaff. Not “we” couldn’t, but “I” couldn’t. Yelling at each other is just how they deal with it.
Eir is the only one besides Zojja that I’d worry about. She too accepts the blame, but with nobody to yell at she’s turned it inwards. She’s flat out suicidal by the Honor of the Waves story, not the best mental state for a leader.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
I’m with you on not trusting Caithe. She flat-out lies in one of the personal stories and murders a dude.

Because we can’t be angry about both?
… oh lore
2 year old juvenile static story.

…The doesn’t trust Caithe at all? And I say this as a diehard Sylvari player. All the little hints that get dropped, her past, the way she carries herself, and the mother of them all, the Vision of Orr, all add up.
It well and truly irks me that there’s no way to call her on being completely compromised and untrustworthy. Sure, she may be innocent, and I want to think that, but wartime is no time for idealism. The vision was something that “could” happen, but may or may not, I’ll grant that. But quite frankly anyone even giving passing thought to flipping sides at this juncture shouldn’t be privy to the details of whats going on. Especially with the Nightmare Court, in regards to Caithe.
I trust her about as far as my character could throw Zhaitan. You’re either in the war and on the right side %100 or you’re not, and neither the player character nor all of Tyria has time for anyone under that percentage. It’s either the firing line or a cell and under investigation, in my book.
…But maybe all this is just me going for the Order of Whispers first and foremost.
This goes hand in hand with my general contempt to Destiny’s Edge, bat at least with the others it’s a reaction to their general childishness rather than being suspect.
So. Anyone else feel even somewhat the same?
No, you’re not alone. I think that Caithe is “compromised” as well. She comes across to me as borderline Nightmare or even a Court spy who disguises themselves very well. I wouldn’t even be surprised if she is still seeing Faolain. I realize that Caithe dumps Faolain in the TA dungeon story, but she is still with Faolain deep in her heart. I know from personal experience that close relationships like this don’t go away in group oriented societies like the Sylvari.
My hope is that Caithe will return in future updates and that Anet will continue her story. I think her storyline is the best NPC storyline in the game.
I also think that the Order of Whispers concerns about all of the Firstborn Sylvari are well founded. There are some secrets in the Grove that I hope the Anet writers include in their story.
I haven’t played all the way through the Sylvari story yet, but I can’t really say I like Caithe. The final straw for me was her role in the Aetherpath, where she uses you as a distraction so she can get into Scarlet’s facility and wander around freely…without you. For reasons she never explains, with results that she never talks about.
Yeah, that’s an exciting story. I always wanted to have an exciting adventure so I could see someone duck in and out of my story with their own exciting adventure that I can’t really see. Scarlet and Caithe’s dialog points at some great secret of Caithe’s, which sounds interesting…except we haven’t gotten any acknowledgement of it since then. Given that the Aetherpath released in October last year, I feel like that story thread has gone beyond “foreshadowing” and reached “plot hole” status, much like Tequatl’s upgrade. Scarlet and Caithe apparently share some secret, but Caithe isn’t even present for any of the Living Story after that, including when our strike team goes in to kill Scarlet.
Even if LS2 explains what the devil is going on there, which it very well might, given hints about the jungle and suspicions about Mordemoth, I don’t think there’s any narrative magic trick in the world that can compensate for nearly a year between “Caithe has a secret!” and “Here’s the second time we’ll mention that secret!”
If Caithe does betray us, I won’t be surprised. And I hope it gets written that the PC isn’t either, but merely saddened that now we have to kill her, and says such ingame.
Caithe doesn’t seem to be evil, but with a push in the right direction… Of course doubt anything like that would occur.
People aren’t black and white. There’s always going to be that seed of doubt. It’s in all of us. Even during the Orr assault there were many who weren’t sure if it was possible. You’d have put half the Pact in front of the firing squad?
I think Caithe is on the edge, but she’s not evil. However, I think her secret has to do with her being somehow partially responsible for the founding of the Nightmare Court.
Caithe’s reaction during A Light in the Darkness (the vision of Orr) was what would have been the outcome if the PC was not around in Twilight Arbor to keep her hopes up after both Rytlock and Logan abandoned her in the dungeon.
Through the earlier personal story she’s on the brink – she lost her lover and her dearest friends. It’s hinted throughout the level 1-30 sylvari PS steps that she’s been holding in her pain and frustration to show no emotions to her enemies – and even allies – even if the situation hits close to home for her (e.g., the Shield of the Moon storyline with Tiachern and Ysvelta).
She regains herself over the coarse of the story mode dungeons, however, but still holds some secrets – one of which Scarlet apparently knew about (or acted like she did).
If using the old Lawful/Neutral/Chaotic Good/Neutral/Evil chart, I’d probably put Caithe at Lawful Neutral that’s struggling to stay out of Chaotic Neutral – she gives no remorse to her enemies, but always abides by her people’s views and is constantly put into situations in which she’d want to break said views.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Just because Scarlet said she had a secret on Caithe AND a sylvari was trying to kill the Master of Peace AND the Zephyrites were stabbed to death by a hidden assassin using daggers doesn’t meant Caithe is guilty.
Or does it?
/dun dun dun
Caithe is fine just that she been through a lot of Fed up things in her life.
I mean for starters…
- Her lover turned evil
- One of the 1st born was killed and dissected by Asuras during their first contact.
- She explored the world and saw the corruption of each Race’s government.
- She saw how dark and evil people can become to just to benefit themselves alone.
so ya she appears dark and shady but that only because she seen the darkness of the world and learned to find what little light there is in the world.

Be glad they didn’t end up turning the Investigation Team into what Destiny Edge became after Snaff’s death becuase Anet original plan was to kill Marjory and use her as the Snaff of the Investigation Team with her death slowly breaking the Team apart.
This would have resulted in…
-Kasmeer becoming emo and suicidal in throught due to Marjory’s death
-Braham would have developed hatred towards Taimi becuase he blames Taimi for holding him back from saving Kasmeer due to the original plot was that during the Battle of Lion Arch Braham would have been held back from joining the final battle against Scarlet since he was busy protecting a injured Taimi
Lucky it didn’t come down to that due to the story changed to have Marjory survive the Battle of Lion Arch since I would hate having to deal with another Destiny Edge Snaff issue thing all over again.

She kills a courtier in cold blood in one part of the personal story. I don’t think you should count on her being merciful to anyone.
But I also get the impression that she wouldn’t jump off of a bridge even if everyone else was doing it.

I think you’re almost right. My guess is she’s responsible for the Soundless. One of the Firstborn developed the technique, and Aerin was soundless. LS2 may reveal that she’s the one who thought it up in the first place, and Mordy or some other force has fabricated some way to exploit that lack of dream, or perhaps created an alternate dream to control them.
