Wondering about this, in light of the beginning of S2 and what I expect to be some kind of calamity overtaking the waypoint system. The probes are still in-game, but all the ones I’ve seen are “self-destructed”. The only “live” one I’ve seen was in a PS instance, and I’d assumed that to be a mistake.

As they seem to have served their purpose (and their creator is dead), you’d think there was no more reason for them to be in the game, self-destructed or otherwise. But there they are. Why?

I haven’t seen any that are still intact and certainly none that are active. I think they’ve all be destroyed.

As to why the remains are still in game it is more realistic that way. After all, who is going to come along and clean them up? I guess if they were near a skritt tunnel they might get carted away that way, but generally stuff just doesn’t disappear it sticks around until cleaned up, it decays, or it gets overgrown.

Why make sense, when it’s so much more fun to make nonsense?

I’m sure the Inquest and the Durmand Priory would be conducting salvage operations on them, at the very least.

The only ones I know of that are still active to this day are the ones in Edge of the Mists. All others were either destroyed or self destructed. Although, like Zaxares said, it would make sense for other groups to study/salvage them to build something else.
