So, now I am on episode 4 of season 2. The world summit. After the summit and an attack by some of the mordrerm, all my npc buddies go down stairs. I’m left alone at the top to fight some kind of dragon. I have 14,233,144 tendrils attacking me all at once. Die repeatedly within the course of a mere 2 minutes. Almost all gear is broken, so continuing isn’t an option.

I’m about this .. close to giving up on the season 2 storyline.

As I said before, I play for relaxation and fun and I found nothing, whatsoever, fun about that fight.

Of course, if I give up on the storyline, all I have left to do in this game is map completion and some unfinished dungeons. I am a PvE player. Not interested in any kind of PvP or WvW.

I’m quickly becoming very disappointed in how GW2 is turning out.

I agree with Aylrilana, and on top of that the story this season turned out pretty good. It won’t hurt to do the story with someone else so that is always an option!
Not to brag but it is doable solo, I managed it on my mesmer.

The what-ever-it-is that turns bloodstone dust to loot sounds interesting, seeing as how I have a ton of that stuff. But it, alone, is a piddly prize for all the aggravation I have gotten from this storylines fights. Not interested in glowy gear or skins. There are nice skins in the Gem Store that I can get should I decide I’d like to have them and they’re completely aggravation free.

Well, it seems the ONLY way I would be able to do some of, if not all, the fights I have left will be if I can get someone to help. But getting help the exact times that I am online isn’t guaranteed. I am sure it is doable solo and some people thrive on high-stress and highly difficult content. But for me, stress is not fun, aggravation is not fun, and being annoyed is not fun. I enjoy a challenge, but not something that is going to drive me to the point of giving up… which this content is quickly leading up to me doing.

If I get the story done, then good. But if I don’t, then sobeit.

I also should mention that you need very high, if not max, crafting level for most of the crafts to craft the back piece and item that consumes bloodstone dust.

All of these require you to farm events in the new maps. The first two require you to farm geodes to purchase recipes and clay bricks. Although I believe all of this can be bypassed if you buy everything from the TP. The armor will require a lot of grind as many people can attest to although it’s somewhat reduced now that you can get almost everything from the vendor with crests.

I’m not interested in the gear… or the back piece. And I’m not going to go through this storyline just for the what-ever-it-is, the bloodstone dust thing, if, end the end, I still have to craft it. Not at all interested in leveling any craft for 100’s of levels. I have a life outside this game.

Not at all interested in leveling any craft for 100’s of levels. I have a life outside this game.

1. Please don’t try to use that as a justification for anything ever. The I have a life phrase is just plain insulting to everyone does not even make sense when you think about it and is designed to try and belittle someone else’s choice of time investment.

2. Assuming you have the resources the total time it takes is roughly 1 hour per craft just navigating menus so is quite short.

I’m quickly becoming very disappointed in how GW2 is turning out.

Guildwars 2 was sold as using action combat as opposed to traditional combat so it wasn’t exactly advertised as “relaxing”.

There are 3 tendrils, they don’t regenerate health and re-spawn at fixed points in the fights sequence meaning even with fully broken armor progress is still quite possible. Remaining in constant motion negates most of the risk the tendrils pose and knowing the dragons attack pattern allows you to remain outside of the cone attack and dodge at the right time for the area AOE.
The fight requires some learning but is not difficult, there’s no regeneration so even if you die 100 times you’ll still finish it.
Myself and others can attest that once you know what to do you can do the fight both normal and challenge mode without dying at all, if you are truly struggling parties are allowed also.

Many aspects of the game are relaxing , it doesn’t mean the whole game has to be , perhaps the story is not an element of the game for relaxation.
As it is GW2 is widely considered the easiest MMO out there and there have been many many topics about raising the difficulty and requiring the player to pay attention, LS 2 is a step towards this and is what I’d consider a positive change.

You don’t even have to use a dodge on the room-filling aoe, you can jump in place to avoid it.

I’m always happy to help people with the LS chapters, and I’m available most every NA Eastern time afternoon/evening (not Tuesdays). Feel free to call on me for aid with your LS on NA. I’ve soloed every LS end boss, though my first attempts are always on my Thief and usually involve a lot of dying as I learn the fight. Thereafter I use a Guardian and a Mesmer to more easily zip on through.

It takes one hour of crafting to level it 400 levels? Ooooookaaaayy…!
And yes, my statement about having a life outside of the game is a valid one. It wasn’t meant to be insulting to people who choose to put in a lot of time in-game. It was meant to indicate that I do not have that kind of time and would rather spend what time I have doing missions and quests.

I have 14,233,144 tendrils attacking me all at once. Die repeatedly within the course of a mere 2 minutes. Almost all gear is broken, so continuing isn’t an option.

As it is GW2 is widely considered the easiest MMO out there and there have been many many topics about raising the difficulty and requiring the player to pay attention, LS 2 is a step towards this and is what I’d consider a positive change.

I definitely saw well more than 3 tendrils on my screen. The floor was so full of circles indicating attack area, that my character barely had one square foot to stand in at any given moment that was safe. Dodging and jumping were of little help because of this. And if the content of GW2 is scheduled to become even more difficult, without giving a player a choice of difficulty levels, then I will soon be quitting the game. I am far from the only player that has posted on here that the Living Story is too difficult. They should have already implemented a choice menu for level of difficulty.

I said relaxation and FUN… I have not found anything about season 2’s fights fun… at all. I like challenge, but if that challenge becomes frustrating, it’s no longer a challenge, but a deterrent to going any further in the story. I’m not going to struggle through a fight and die repeatedly and continue to go back for more punishment. Even if the end result is a win. It too aggravating and I care a little more about myself than that. I don’t enjoy being aggravated.

I would say that if you are playing Guild Wars 2 for the rewards your are playing it wrong.

I don’t play for the rewards… they are a plus, but not my sole incentive. I play for the story, but I’m not sure that even that is worth the aggravation this particular storyline is giving me.

If the go easy approach is yours then to answer your question, no it is not worth a second of your time.

With crafting boosters, express merchant/BL merchant consumables getting one crafting to 400 is possible in an hour or less; if you have the money.

Most of the rewards do not come directly from doing the story, but simply are unlocking the paths from doing so.

Based on your responses and previous information I would say skip the content, you’ll have to do it twice or thrice for rewards anyway.

PS: Please everyone restrain yourselves from judging anyone. Always be polite to people who ask help.

The dragon attack in chapter 4 was a very dramatic fight, but I was still able to beat it on my first attempt with… minimal problems. I know I had all my gear intact, though possibly damaged.

Strategies on the fight:
#Use ranged weapons. I’ve never fought the jungle tendrils in many, and it seems like a suicide attempt. Stay back so that it’s easier to see where the acid spray is going to land.
#Learn the attack pattern of the dragon while fighting the tendrils. For most of them, there is a sliver somewhere you can stand without getting hit back the big attack. Get in there and keep using your ranged attacks.
#Save your dodges! I didn’t know that you could just jump to avoid the everywhere attack, so I made a point of keeping at least 1 dodge ready for when this attack came, then timed it so I was dodging during the attack. Didn’t always work, but practice made perfect here.
#Heal, heal, heal! You are your own personal healbot, so use that 6 skill at the right time. Trying to tank it won’t work, even for the beefy warriors.

The big question of “are the rewards worth it” is extremely subjective. I’m probably never going to complete Mawdrey, not for lack of want but lack of ability. I’m still gathering up random items used to craft it, and I don’t even have enough clay to make the Clay Pot yet! But for me, story completion was more rewarding than the actual loot I got.

If you are having trouble on this chapter, go on to the next. I never chapter-hopped before finishing the last one, but you can always come back to it without doing the in-between. Go try Chapter 5, see if that’s treating you any better and, when you’re ready, go back to Chapter 4 to beat the Shadow of the Dragon back from the Grove.

You must be doing something wrong, what is your character, level and equipment? I did it with rng, war and guar already and I believe it is beatable without much effort (save for the dialogues and cutscenes you cannot skip).

As for the loot, I would not bother. I just liked the gameplay (which was greatly spoiled by the story entries, cutscenes and dialogues). For loot I’d recommend farming Silverwartes, if you craft, and for relatively easy money grind AC (namely if you can use soldier gear).

The rewards are cosmetic and longterm goals.
The backpiece allows you to use up your masses of bloostone dust.
The armor gives you access to new collections and subsequently more AP.
These are the obvious rewards you will get.

However is it is wort to be able to fight these fights?
Definitely.
I highly recomend being able to fight these fight for the future of this game.
With the expansion coming, fights might very highly be on that level. Maybe even bigger and more complex.

In retrospect. These fights are beatable with the basic level expected of the players. This means able to adapt to your souroundings and knowing how to dodge and when to adapt.
All fights are based around that concept and it counts for every class.

See it as a stepping stone, preparing you for the future.

In my opinion knowing that you are able to win these fights, is also an reward.

Wow, you must be a really really bad player, if you can’t even fight this boss… I guess games like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta or Demon’s Souls is unknown to you.

Oh, where are the good old times, where only gamers played games?

That is one of the dumbest statements I heard today. Everyone plays game for different reasons and the difficulty of a game doesn`t make one supperior to another.
The term gamer does not have a place here. You do not know this person, nor have you a right to judge him.

If you don`t have anything constructive to say, then please keep it to yourself.
He just asked for our input for a very subjective matter. In the end he has to decide and your comment was certainly out of place.

(btw. beating DMC can be beaten pretty easy, even with button mashing if you don`t care for ratings. There is an easy mode for a reason. Some people just want to enjoy the game.)

And you must (obviously) be a really really judgmental person. Very crummy social skills… I’d work on that if I were you!

But to answer your inquiry… because I am a decent person and I am NOT ashamed of NOT being hardcore… you are right, I don’t play those games nor have I heard of them. I can count the number of mmo games I play on one hand. (That would be 5, in case you weren’t sure.) Does not mean I am not a gamer, and, by the same token, does not mean that I am. Curious… where do you get off thinking that only ‘gamers’ should play games? They’re, um… GAMES… not jobs.

Thanks everyone else for all the input. Most appreciated and thank you for your kindness!

Silence you good-feel guys. This is a kittening game, it’s serious business. Non-gamers, casual gamers, candy crush gamers should leave gaming ground. The all tolerant, we love everyone and help everyone mentality poisened the scene since far too long.

Okay, now in all seriousness: the guy was pretty nasty to others so I just held up the mirror. Also, about my not so serious made statement: the constant lamenting of how hard something is, is a real problem who wants challenge or hard content. The game industry adapts, and if you are a gamer who played games since 20+ years you notice this very clearly. That’s why I just want to encourage people – instead of complaining in the forums – to learn the patterns of a boss, show some patience and if you still have problems, just ask a friend or in a town/outpost if you can get some help. It’s really not that hard to find help.

You know you’re not forced to play the LS in the right order right? If you don’t feel like killing this boss, play “Echoes of the past”. I think that’s the episode that follows the one you’re currently in. Lots of lore stuff, if you’re into that (I was not, and I bought GW1 after this awesome chapter!), a the beginning of the carapace armor, which is one of the best looking armor in the game imo, while being really accessible.

Are the Season 2 rewards really worth it?

Yup, I found this out on my own after I completed my personal story.

Have a laugh on me… I did:

I finished the final battle in my personal storyline, got all the credits at the end and everything. When I checked my log, the system had automatically skipped me to the very last Season 2 episode and activated it. I’m like, “What? I don’t get to do the other episodes even though I have them?”.
So, I am about half way through the last episode when my brain farted… possibly due to age and senility… and it dawned on me that I can activate any episode manually. I do want to do them in order, though. But for the time being, I’m going to let Season 2 rest while I do some other stuff that I have yet to do… like dungeons and map completion. And making a little gold farming, mining, logging, and harvesting. I don’t craft, so my gold accumulation is a bit slow… but adequate for my needs.
