Armors
Armor is meant to be more prestigious and thus reserved for in-game rewards. Not only are they more expensive, because 3 weights = 3 outfits, they’re also far less profitable. Releasing them regularly outside of expansions would likely mean using them as gold sinks, costing 100+ gold per piece.
Well they didn’t really set themselves up well to develop armors quickly. Each time they develop an armor set, they have to develop 6 different sets (male and female versions for each armor class), so when you talk about the time to make a single armor set you are really talking about the time to make 6 armor sets. On top of that though, they have 3 separate character rigs to make each armor set fit (human/sylvari/norn, asura, charr), which means that they now have to test all 6 pieces of all 6 sets on 3 different rigs. When you take a look at all of that, to design a single armor set, ANet has to develop 36 pieces, and test a total of 108 combinations of piece/rig before they can release it.
Are they slow at releasing armor sets? Yes, they are. And that is partly due to how much work goes into a single armor set. I wish armors came out much more frequently than they do, but unless they overhaul their process to be significantly easier to model each of those 36 pieces and make them mostly work with each character rig, I doubt we will ever see faster pace for armors.
Yeah but im not sure if like a set of armor per year would be like too much to ask honestly i understand the reasoning behind it but then you see other games like in wow where they make 1 unique armor set for each class and then they have to test taht armor set to all races that can have that class as wellas to tweak it for male female now i understand that blizzard is a huge company but if they manage to make all this procces more than once per year d say its not that much to ahve 1 armor set in lets say living world seasons considering taht each season would be a year.
I mean athis will also boost the sales to players that didnt buy play during the time they ahd t get it for free,i for example really liked the luminescent armor from season 2 to the point where i bought all the episodes from 1 to 6 even tho not all ahd the armor pieces attached to them.
Also since i dnt beieve they will add another legendary armor in a long while since making the first one has taken them so long, making armors for living world gives further replayability value to that content meaning more ppl whith have stuff to do and be happy.
I hope this isnt far fetched and unrealistic but since it happened to me i suppose there might be a number of ppl that did the same cant be the only one xD.

I dont agree with this sure they can be prestigious and ofc they should be ingame rewards armors play the game outfits buy from the gem story but i wouldnt say they are not profitable dont forget that armors if are aquired through lw season 2 procces (like the luminescent sets) it would give high replayability value to living world making more ppl who didnt play at the time of release consider buying the episodes for these cool rewards and for those who stay they will get to see more gemstory items ssince they are online playing making they possible buyers.(i stopped playing for sometime after ep 2 and so i missed the amazing draagon wing glider skin (the glint like one))
They dont need to be gold sinks they never needed to be they just need to be smartly gated behind various things just like the sets in the hot maps just like the luminescent armors etc.
This would also help with the issue of lvling world updates being falling short for many ppl since the skins take only like a day to aquire.

What a bunch of nonsense. If I can create armor for Unreal Engine 4 using apexcloth in maya then they can for sure do it with whole team. There is a serious problem with that team, that is the only explanation, cuz it’s not hard to do at all, and it doesn’t take so much time for sure.

You have two choices:
- Accept ANet knows what it’s doing with armors.
- Believe that they have no clue.
If it’s the first, then for sure we aren’t getting armors any quicker than they’ve said. If the second, then we still aren’t getting skins more quickly — they wouldn’t know what to do with any of our ideas.
I’d imagine that ANet knows better than any of the players just what it takes to create GW2 armors — it might be easier in other games for any of 983 reasons of which we’re not aware.

Although that’s true in terms of development time, if we include the cost of the armor vs the cost of the outfits the two of them are in reality similar. Spending 800 gems for the armor gives you access to a single armor weight, not all three of them, while the 700 gems for the Outfit allows you to use it on all armor weights. You’d need to pay 2400 gems to get access to all 3 weights, which is a very heavy price to pay.
If you think of it that way then outfits and armors are the exact same in terms of skins required to make them. Maybe they could create single weight armor sets, if making all 3 weights is the problem, like the Mistward set which is only available for Heavy.

It’s probably the armor creating tools that are problematic and cause delays. A good mod creator for Skyrim said it takes him about a week to make a full armor for that game from scratch and he does everything solo. Even if you add the different race versions required for Guild Wars 2, 1 week vs 8 months is a serious difference.
I think it’s more of an internal creation problem (maybe engine issue?) rather than an artist issue.

that could be completely true, engine is a big part of how something is made, and GW2 doesn’t really have the best engine out there…
if theres ever a gw3 pls dont make it in the same engine as gw2 if thats the case with the armors xD

Noone ever forced Devs to work on GW2, I believe that if a person choose to work in a videogame developement team, it’s for pure passion. That said, imho, it’s wrong to just release outfits that most of players dislike just because release a new armor set is too long or too expensive.
In every work, if you have to do something you do it, it’s wrong to look for an easier way to avoid the problem. Devs should release armors instead of outfits because it’s their work, because you can’t simply avoid every problem and shipping around a surrogate.
I know that ANet will never change about armors and outfits but, imho, that’s totally wrong.
I imagine the metrics show that most players don’t dislike Outfits. If they rarely sold, I doubt we would see them released.
If only Armor Sets were released in the Gem Store, I’m guessing there would be a lot of negative feedback about only getting a set approximately once a year. Not to mention, less overall content due to reduced income.
Perhaps, more Armor will be released with the next expansion; one never knows.

You can maybe be right about armors, but everytime someone complain about a random game aspect, there is always someone else that scream about how much time/money/etc. this thing will require to be modified/added/fixed/etc.
