[BUG] Stairbug in Winter Wonderland JP
The thing with these types of bugs is finding out how to cause it to happen consistently.
I know for at least the candy cane slope, if you dodge roll down it, you’ll take damage, but running doesn’t always cause it to happen.
But yeah, it’s annoying when it occurs.
I hear you… Barely managed to do it once :P
Should I go left where nothing is right,
or right where nothing is left?

idk but i dont think that i ever jumped on Candy cane, i just dodge at the wind part and simply keep running.
maybe try it without jumping.
This has turned one of the most fun JPs in the game to one of the most frustrating. Please fix it…

I think it’s running on the right side of the candy cane bridge.
Similar thing happens to me walking down the vine bridge in Dry Top.
It’s caused by latency. You take falling damage whenever you descend more than a certain distance vertically within a short period of time. The bug occurs when lag makes the server think you’re still at your old (higher) position, when in reality you’re already much lower thanks to running down the slope. The game briefly rubberbands your position back between the high and low positions, resulting in you taking multiple falling damage ticks with each step.
Unfortunately, there’s no real way to get around this except by stopping the second you see yourself taking damage. In the case of Winter Wonderland though, the lost health can make the difference between success and failure.
They could maybe resolve this by making it stairs we descent from, instead of a slope.

Even running can cause it. This occurrence of the downslope bug is quite strange because it only occurs occasionnaly (for me at least, seems some others are less fortunate) while in other places it occurs everytime I go down a slope.

Tried. Still happens (altough more rare, so thanks for the tip).
What boggles the mind is that I had none of this the last year (or the year prior to that) nor have I known anyone who encountered it.

Most likely latency or synchronization issues. Synchronization with the activity servers seems to be a major issue this year in the Bell Choir (the song timing you have to hit the keys doesn’t match up with the falling lights), and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what’s making it more noticeable in the JP.
That said, it happens elsewhere too. Anywhere with stairs or a ramp can trigger it, but little is guaranteed reproducible.
