Broken World Events
I’m still waiting on collecting the samples from a Mordrem and I keep speaking to the Charr under the vines but nothing happens. Any idea’s?
I think we can all agree (the people who have seen the events anyway) that these event should have been instanced.
I’m actually surprised they are not. I’d think it’s easier to fix a problem with an instance than open world without messing something else up. Besides, if something screws up in an instance and you can’t finish, you exit the instance and restart it, it only effects you. If the open world event is screwed up, NOBODY can do it.

It’s also an issue of the QA having only two weeks to find and report bugs and the programmers having even less time to fix them.
Ok got past collecting the spores now there are a bunch of us sitting around waiting on something to happen with Taccius. Not sure what though.

You think they make this stuff two weeks at a time? They made all this stuff months ago
If they push it as it is and there’s a bug, people will rage that they’re sloppy and suck and should have put it off.
If they push it back for further testing and bugfixes, people will rage that they’re sloppy and suck and should stick to their announced schedule.
Let’s face it, there’s pretty much no way they can avoid people raging short of going door to door to each customer and giving them $500.00 every two weeks for playing.
Except then again, people would just rage that it should have been $1,000.00 and that anything less is sloppy and they suck.

its both…..and its why we get nothing but tooltip fixes for bugged skills/traits for all but one patch per year (and half the time they don’t fix it, or they introduce a new bug). Then we get to wait another 6-8 months
Bugs always happen…..always will. its how fast you fix them that matters.
Anet is good about fixing events bugs………awful at fixing skills and traits. its kinda embarrassing…which is why the QA liason hides from all but the most silly and inconsequential bug threads (graphic glitches and players who can’t read the UI so claim things are bugged).

You might want to reassess what’s actually going on here. The developers started working on this stuff months ago, but they sure as hell didn’t finish the entire season. They’re finishing each installment of the Living Story as they go. However much time it takes them to finish one installment and start the next is the time the QA team has to find and report bugs. It may not be two weeks, but the two weeks release schedule certainly sets a hard deadline for the QA team to finish it’s work, whether it’s finished or not.
What a surprise, more broken events and ANet not learning anything from previous experience.
We’re not even 12 hours into Episode 3 and we got 13 and about a half days worth to go. Come on now.
IMO, stick with instances so that challenges like “Masters” or a “Hard Mode” (GW1) can be added and used for a reason to actually replay episodes. I mean look at LS2 E1&2. It was instanced, had a lot less problems at launch, if something bugs for you just restart and still.. it had open world co-existing beautifully with the story.
Why did we go backwards to the LS1 player mash up debacle?

Because people complained that everything was instanced and they wanted more open world content.

This is why releases like this need to be so polished. Anet draws everyone’s attention to this, releasing new content, new weapon skins, and fun events. But all it takes is one disastrous bug like this to turn so many people away, not only from the events, but the game itself.
Ultimately it’s not fair for a traditionally good set of developers, but when you are a AAA MMO you can’t afford such significant mistakes.

I said it before and I’ll say it now, as a former functional game tester. 2 weeks is time for a SINGLE test cycle. Proper testing consists of several of these. In some projects even 10 or more.

Hey guys,
Just wanted to pop in and say that we are investigating the issues with the iron marches content as fast as we can so that we can get you guys back to progressing through the episode. These issues are indeed proving quite tricky to nail down (it’s not as simple as they simply won’t restart) but we are working hard to get everything addressed as quickly as possible.
Thanks for understanding and sorry for the inconvenience.
Good to know.
…and when you figure it out, please go back and look at other events and event chains that have problems starting up properly and see if you can apply what you’ve learned to make them work more frequently :p

Well considering the events broke almost immediately on live, it would seem that the test environment they are using is quite insufficient. Doesn’t matter how many passes they do or don’t do.

I doubt very much they rewrote everything back into open world content because people complained too much. With that being said there is no pattern and I find your lack of faith disturbing, Anet does what they want how they planed it. So again I ask, Why go backwards as a planed installment?

I would be shocked, shocked, if they only finished this update in the last week or so.
I’m betting most of the early episodes (maybe even most of the season) were already content complete before Season 2 even started, and they’ve been doing bug testing on this stuff all this time.

The pattern is:
Anet does something.
Players complain about it and want it another way.
Repeat.
If they kept it instanced, people would complain about open world.
If they make it open world, people complain it should be instanced.
A strange game.

Yeah, people complain, but their complaints have literally zero impact until months later when they’re already complaining about something else.

Filaha I see the pattern, It’s just that pattern isn’t relevant to the current story content being used and/or implemented as Blix and I are trying to tell ya.
RyuDragnier Very True. After all in the end it just turns into another Zone event hardly worthy of an episode replay.
Not really like to complain, but must admit that this release is completely messed up all positive experience from the previous two. Two weeks of anticipation for… hm… well… five hours of waiting and jumping through servers… With zero progress. Very bad idea.

Actually, I think it is quite relevant, given the definition of relevant.
It describes the situation perfectly.
People didn’t just suddenly start wanting open world content now, just as they’re not just developing all the new content now.
This isnt going to be easy to fix i’m afraid. Almost certainly not tonight. I’m really thinking now that anet may have to instance this to make it work
All these people saying that ANet is learning nothing from previous experiences…
Guys, this broke in an entirely new way. Clearly they’re learning and trying different approaches. New approaches are gonna have bugs.
Y’all need to chill. It’s not like you bought the update.

Nothing wrong with complaining as long as the said complaint is constructive. That just means there is always going to be room for improvement. That being said, I could acknowledge the fact that Arenanet may not have seen this bug coming. Still, I just hope that at the very least if they implement another episode like this, they have been able to think of a way to minimize the problem rather.
Here you go – the anthem of software devs to fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it. Fix it, fix it!
Being a very low level programmer I can attest to how easy it is for a bit of code to get broken by a variable you where not ready for.
This could be anything from the mass amount of people doing the event to kitten nugget A with armor B that’s skinned with armor C causing this to hiccup and not reset. You can’t test for every conceivable bug… The best thing you can do is be quick to squash them

This is actually the reason why I prefer instances. Far less variables you have to account for overall, so it’s easier to pinpoint a problem with one when compared to a full scale map.

Still broken after recent patch/reset/whatever.

Don’t worry, the crack asuran testing team will figure out a fix. Of course, then you’ll have to worry about what side-effects happened.
Like, not only do mobs get into guilds, but then . . . they start saying their lines in map chat.
These events need to be running continuously – or, at the very least, every 5 minutes. They’re fun, but there is way too much time between events (specifically, the sample collection event).
People will get frustrated.
This is rediculous, sure after this fix the first boss for the main story chain spawns, and spawns and then spawns but the second boss? The one where you collect samples? Nope, one step forward two steps backwards ANet.
I sure hope someone’s staying late to fix these problems. Honestly, in the state it’s in now, might as well have waited till tomorrow to release it. What we got today was a tease. Unbelievable
I haven’t played the update yet, but I heard from bf that they used old events that already exist in maps to progress the story. Is this true? :/

and funny…..some of us like it both ways (sometimes instanced, sometimes open world event) !
am about to try it out (assuming latest patch fixed things)……hope it’s not dumb zerg (but fear it is because any coordination/multi-mechanic open world event would cause a forum rage meltdown…
this stuff is permanent now….so the opening day bugs are no where near as damaging as before (and they weren’t that bad even when the content was temp).

This latest patch did nothing really. Still bugged. Gonna have to instance this.
I feel as though most of the team has went home by now unless they’re paying overtime. So we can probably expect this tomorrow.
Maybe in a week or so after they finally instance it.
Events were working fine for me after the patch
Can confirm it is still bugged after the patch. Anet’s dev Derby was there waiting with us.

still broken, got past the first part, but now it wont let me collect samples……………..whats with the event chain anyway? why cant it be like the rest of the living story missions. seriously not impressed with this release.
