Can we please kill Phlunt?
fine, fine, kill Phlunt, we don’t need the asura to fight the elder dragons

To be more precice we need no other race to fight the dragons. Killing an ambassador is political suicide and I don’t think the other races would work with us when they see that we killed an ambassador.
Seriously. My character would be having none of his attitude.
Braham: “Whoa! Put the axe away, boss! Look, I trust you to make the right decisions, but something about this doesn’t feel right.”
Phlunt: “I’m demanding another stipulation!”

Just because a member of the race X killed him, that doesn’t mean that it was on the orders of the given race’s government. It can be a personal quarrel
Nobody needs, to know. Now, Councilor Phlunt, this way please….
Simply a Member of Race X? Srsly, we are trying to convince Phlunt to go to the Summit and he is the only one from the Asura Council who is willing to go there. At this point both Phlunt and we are ambassadors, doing political stuff. And to top it off, we are a high ranking member of the Pact. Would make a good PR for the Pact
Everyone in the Group has more political sense, heck even Taimi knows better not to kill him and she is a child.
We already got him to attend the summit. Who’s to say he hadn’t ran to some more mordrem on his way back to Rata Sum? Certainly not me… teehee let me escort you on your way back councillor

Exactly, cant we just arrange some kind of “accident” to get rid of him?

The Commander of the Pact has murdered an ambassador. This sentence has the gravity of Superman splattering Congress all over the walls.
Forget about what this would mean for working together against Mordremoth, you are a wanted criminal. Considering your resources, skill and reputation, you will have nowhere to hide. And the Pact and Rata Sum will definitely come looking for you, you’ll be lucky to rot in a cell instead of being executed.
You do realize that not everything you do in game is done as Ambassador of the race X or as Commander of the Pact. For example, you kill him, even though you are Commander of the Pact, that doesn’t mean that that the whole of the Pact was in the conspiracy. The same goes for you as the Ambassador.
It’s not about if you kill him, but whether or not it can be connected to your superiors

What crime have I committed without being referenced as Commander?
I’ve got a bunch of friends in the order of whispers who owe me a few favours.

Riel Darkwater: “I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that, Agent. But since you seem to be unoccupied, I have an assignment for you.”
Pact Commander: “I’m organizing the races of Tyria to combat an Elder Dragon!”
Riel Darkwater: “Then this should be a walk in the park.”

Protip: Never, ever, ever pursue a career in politics. People will scrutinize everything you have ever done, and find ways to use most of it as fuel against your suitability for the job. And that’s to say nothing of anything you do wrong once in office – you will be called to task for anything you do wrong, whether it has anything to do with your job or not.
The Commander of the Pact is not a political office, but a military one, but it is still very high-profile, and if you did something unseemly, people would put pressure on the Marshal to have you removed – even though he appointed you and is aware you are responsible for him BEING Marshal. If he had to choose between even his most trusted ally and the respect of all Tyrians everywhere, he wouldn’t have any choice in the matter. The Pact needs Tyria to work together.
As for the Councilor in question: Phlunt is a bitter, insufferable, officious, pompous twit. Yes, we are all aware of this. However, those seem to be the job requirements for becoming a member of the Arcane Council. Even if we found a by-the-book means to remove Phlunt from his position, his replacement would be much the same.
Honestly. If we can put up with Minister Caudecus, who actually is up to some bad things (which we cannot yet conclusively connect to him), then we can put up with Councilor Phlunt, who is simply a jerk.
It’s also worth noting that most Asura want nothing to do at all with being on the Arcane Council. They see it as a burden and a distraction from their research. Which means that those who ARE on the Council usually either hate their job (Phlunt), or they want to exploit it for their own benefit (Yahk).
Nah… I don’t think he deserves to die. Once the theft of Taimis invention is brought to light he’ll probably lose his position or alternatively he’ll give her a position where she can assist the arcane counsel.

There was no theft. He used Rata Sum law to confiscate a highly dangerous item from a minor, under the pretense of assuming guardianship over a progeny’s invention. I imagine every race has a similar law (although I doubt charr would be so foolhardy to let cubs within reach of a war wagon).
i don’t think the arcane council would see it as thievery unless he claims it to be his own creation. she -is- a kid and the issue at hand is critical to asura influence.
waypoints and portals seem to be asuras main grip on tyria’s economy allowing for quick transportation that only they can control and exact fees for.
I’d be perfectly content with having a punt command appear whenever we’re near him.

With a machine as powerful as that, and knowing that the inquest is so hell-bent on manipulating dragon energies, I would personally have handed it to the Pact or the priory at least. I don’t want 1 race (and its shady council) monopolizing it.
Phlunt might turn out to be against the inquest who knows, but even if he is, I seriously doubt he can protect the machine against them should they decide to steal it.

is the machine really related to dragon energy however?
i thought it “simply” toned down the waypoint “noise” so the dragon would not really pay attention to it.
i suppose the inquest could attempt the opposite process to attract more dragon attention to this or that place after studying it but it’s a bit far fetched. i mean, i can see why the inquest would steal it given the chanche (it is a powerful and pretty critical piece of machinery right now), but i don’t see how it relates to them being obsessed by dragon energy.

This is just a theory, but you can probably guide an attack by mordrems by turning down the energy around while retaining the (mordrem-attracting) frequency of your intended target’s waypoints.

Not at all. Organizations put huge emphasis on representation in every day situations. What you’re saying simply isn’t true in ‘real life’. You can act as independently as you want but the questions of accountability will always be asked of your organization and your superiors.
In game this translates into the political inquiry as to why the Commander of the Pact murdered an Asuran dignitary. Trahearne, even if he believed you, would do his best to separate himself from you to preserve the integrity and prestige of the Pact. It goes on.
Long story short, no, you cannot be viewed separately. You’re involved in way too many high profile activities and organizations for that to be possible.
Am I the only one who thinks Phlunt could secretly be an inquest backer? I mean, with how the asura and inquest are, I would imagine the inquest would try to get someone into the highest position.

I wouldn’t be surprised although Councillor Yahk seems to be the Inquest’s official representative in the Arcane Council.

I doubt very seriously that story arc is anywhere near complete. I feel a little payback coming in a certain asura’s future before too long.

Actually it is exactly like that in ‘real life’. Simply because a member of organization, or a representative of nations government does something illegal, the said organization/government is not criminally responsible unless broader conspiracy is proven. I’m not talking about need to sanction you, or have you removed or imprisoned. The whole talk was about other races withdrawing their anti-modremoth support because you killed Phlunt.
Let me give you example. Ambassador of country X commits murder. He is the one criminally accountable and he is the one that will be prosecuted (if his gov strips him of immunity and gives him up). Meaning, the whole government isn’t criminally accountable for actions of one man unless broader conspiracy can be proven.
If I kill Phlunt, you can’t just pin it on Queen Jennah/The Crown or Trahearne/The Pact simply because I was associated/employed by them or member of their organization. You would need to prove that I was ordered by them (or that they were part of the conspiracy) or that they should’ve forseen it and did nothing to prevent it.
And I imagine most organizations would be quick to detach themselves from or disown individuals who commit crime outside their office.

Yes they would, in lightspeed. But wheter or not they would disown you and hand you over was not the topic nor the issue.

Like a mesmer portal closing when he’s in mid-port (and thus cutting him in half)?
What about a necromancer spacing out, thereby losing control of a minion which happens to crunch his head like an overripe melon?
Badly-timed supply crate/battle standard?
Why not sneak one of those un-attenuated mini-waypoints onto his person?
Anyone else have any ideas?
aka Thalakos Dralnu, Voxt Umultus, and Jalis Haafingar.
Vulgarity is no substitution for wit.
I actually like Phlunt. To me he is exactly what I would expect from a member of the Arcane Council, he is full of himself, grumpy and suspicious. If I was on the Arcane council I would also be grumpy because I would have to spend time there instead of working on the thing that would make me more famous than Snaff.
I would love to watch a debate between him and Zojja btw.

Why is everyone assuming that it would be public knowledge? All you have to do is say that Mordy’s forces attacked in a big way and it was all you could do to get out alive, much less save the council member with no combat skills. Thereby explaining away his death and giving further reason for the forces to join together – a council member killed by Mordremoth’s forces!
Let’s not forget that the dragon shadow knew there was a meeting… knew when to show up..
Did Taimi leak the info to Mordremoth somehow through the ley-lines in retaliation, hoping Phlunk would get killed? I would have been fine with that!
All things have right to grow.
All things have right to grow.
He’s an Asura, he doesn’t grow any higher than he already is. Time to knock him down.
In all seriousness, while I recognise that 90% of the player base used their attack skills on Phlunt during the latest update in a vain attempt to try and smack him down, I hope the writers don’t do anything as crude as killing him off. I’m hoping for some other form of comeuppance though, such as a new career as Taimi’s lab assistant. With threats of retaliation if he is not sufficiently obsequious. Now go make me a coffee Phlunt, I have some serious lab work to do.
Also, a lot of people poo-pooed the writers for looking at Game of Thrones for inspiration, but somehow they managed to create a character as unlikeable as Joffrey.
Apparently there’s a large number of people who feel being kind of a jerk is grounds for execution. Yeesh.
Lol you guys are forgetting how easy it would be for a mesmer to just disguise, execute, and portal out.
They would never know the commander was there o.O.
Don’t need to kill him either….just teach him a lesson….

It’s a video game, silly. I play them to be absurd, not to consider the moral quandaries of eliminating some pixels on my screen. If I was concerned about that sort of thing, I wouldn’t be playing an MMO where you murder everything to level up your character.

Ugh, seriously. It’d be nice if he was killed off or something, I had to turn my volume off every time there was a scene with him because his chainsmoker voice gave me a headache. Also, he’s a total kitten.
I agree with Ashandar.2570 he is just the way he should be.

Phlunt’s projected route home:
The Grove: Summit location -> Asura gate to Lion’s Arch
Lion’s Arch: Asura gate to the Grove -> Asura gate to Rata Sum
Rata Sum: Asura gate to Lion’s Arch -> His home/office/wherever within the city
I’d say your plan needs a bit of work, unless you’re able to get Mordrem within either of the three cities.

I think it’s funny how we have achievements for killing thousands of sentient beings (bandits, inquest, centaurs, etc.) yet we bring a “story” character into the equation and suddenly it’s, “Moral quandary of the century!”

That’s what I thought. Now let me punt Phlunt off a cliff like a football. :P
