Q:

Although the Marionette fight can be coordinated ad hoc via map chat and voice chat services, the content’s population requirements are not met in an automated way that allows players to focus on playing rather than simply hoping that enough people happen to show up to fulfill the requirements. Wouldn’t it be nice if players could simply queue up for the event and play it when the population requirement was met, like they would if they were playing a first person shooter?

Dropping massive content in the world on a respawn timer may be easier to program; but, it creates situations like massively doomed to fail Marrionette sequences running with 10-20 hopeful (and unwitting) players at 3 a.m. server time.

Does anyone else feel like a robust queue system like those used in modern shooters would make mass events like the Marionette more enjoyable and rewarding?

If you only have 10-20 people then everyone should stay in lane 1 and get one chain severed. Honestly, I have run the marionette at least 15 times now, there have always been 20 or more players per lane and I have one completion. The vast majority are 2 or maykittenains severed. Two of the runs have gotten to 4 chains severed and only one of those was even close to getting the fifth. While I have enjoyed running it, the marionette is an extremely arbitrary event mechanic. You can’t control who goes to a particular platform and it only takes one of the 5 to fail for that try to be a full fail. You really aren’t missing that much, in my observation the completion rate is very low. And afterwards it’s the ubers verses the newbs in chat, where the ubers complain about how easy each fight is and how come the newbs can’t do it. Your best bet is to find a server that is full during your playtimes and guest there if you really must have a completion. I have to say the number of tries to get it done wasn’t justified by the time spent or the loot… just sayin. Spoon

Yeah my server is empty for this event most of the time now, and it’s not even a low-tier. It’s just unrealistic to ask for 100+ people to attend everyday.

I don’t know how anet gets their metrics but they should be reviewing guesting, because right now my only option is guesting to BG or to an OF which are both equally bad as well.

This also means it sucks for any people just starting LS, most people are late, but still, I don’t understand how they expect these events to work.
