Given that Mai Trin is still alive (fractals even confirm this) and in season 1 she was arrested, not killed by Kiel, before breaking out when Lions Arch got sacked, then vanished into the mists with the Aetherblade Pirates, could she return for Season 3?

Hear me out here:

One of A-nets things was that when Scarlet Died, the various alliances, Toxic, Aether, Molten, became leaderless, and those factions now need someone else to rally behind.

Answer?

The White Mantle/Lazarus.

This “would” make sense if a power mad Mursaat from GW1 who promised countless generations would suffer was able to divercify his army by using the remenants of Scarlet’s to bolster it into a formidable force.

If that was the case, then Mai could potentially return as a secondary antagonist in Season 3, possibly serving the white mantle.

Also, A-net you tease, with that little conspiracy theorist speculating that Mai-Trin is related to Marjory, I wonder if its actually true? :p

Either way, it could give some interesting potential char development for Tyria’s detective necromancer, and equally id love to see a humanoid villian again with a face to a name.

Could? Yes. So could the Molten Alliance (we never killed their leaders) and the Toxic Alliance (they also remained active, but dwindled).

Honestly I expected the Toxic Alliance to play a role in HoT, but it was so lacking in story content that apparently even more important story hooks got cut.

But yeah, those three could return at any point potentially, but I don’t think they will because of the whiplash that Scarlet got.

Mai is currently in the Edge of the Mists, away from any clear means of communication, and there’s no real reason for the White Mantle and especially Lazarus to contact her.

I think if Mai Trin was related to Marjory, Marjory would have denoted such when they first met and Mai Trin was thought to be a good guy. She wasn’t wearing Aetherblade clothing, but she wasn’t under disguise either.
