Current Events discontinued
Apparently. I still have my shadow stone. Would be nice to at least salvage it for unbound magic.
ANet said that there will be more to the Rifts. I’m expecting that to continue after PoF. Like the, erm, current Current Events, I expect it will be in Core Tyria, not HoT or PoF zones.

What’s the latest official statement on current events? The only thing I could remember was that someone asked if there’s a hidden achievement that unlocks the next part of the rift events (Class III, IV, V rifts). A dev then told us that there’s nothing else to be found at the moment. Could be a confirmation of more to come or just a normal statement.
However, people are telling me to wait for it since forever now:
- Wait for the next patch
- Wait for the next Living World episode
- Wait for the announcement of the expansion
- Wait for the time after the expansion
The expansion will be released on September 22. In October it will be a whole year since the rifts appeared. Considering that they used to fill the time between the episodes every two weeks, that’s a lot of time. At some point it will just be the same as Malyck’s Tree.

I feel Anet is not utilizing the living world properly,
Theyre too random and too far apart.
The only one I felt really significant was the trail to Ember Bay. The rest was just
“See, magic’s going whack”
Current events can be used for so much more.
Inquest activity, abaddon knows they need to step up their game. All their ambitions are gone with Kudu, who was far from a boss/leader?
Cenaur activity.
Tengu activity.
Dwarven activity, why did ogden stop caring about us after Ember Bay?

Exactly, there’s so much potential, many things they could do.
These side-quest activities you described (centaur activity,…) would make Tyria feel alive again – similar to the first season of the Living World. The world doesn’t stop because there’s an Elder Dragon/human god/… coming up.
There’s only so much that they can work on at a time. I like the current events a bit better, because it’s more like the things I liked about LS1. It’s not rooted to following instanced content.
I’d rather that they do a good job with LS4 (and PoF for that matter) than worry about progressing the Side Stories as quickly as we want.

Thats the funny thing, these require only a fraction of a LS effort.
They require no map making, no unique models or special characters, at worst a little bit of voicing. At least, not a lot. What did we get in the past? Electric people, and shades in orr for the knight of thorns.
It shouldnt be too much of a stretch to release one every 5-6 weeks? Events like chasing trackers are easy to make, but can make a player feel like theyve done a lot of work.
Another good idea for current events would be revitalization of the Gauntlet. Combat champions spread across turia looking for good fights. Extremely simple to implement.

It doesn’t matter if they require 10% of the effort or 100%; it’s still more effort than not working on them at all.
Again, I like the side stories; I’d love to see more of them. I just don’t see how ANet can keep everything going all the time, without skimping on quality.

Just to cement the point that Anet takes way too long on some plots:
Lazarus’ story was introduced in Eye of the North. In 2007.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Yeah, I suspect what they’re actually doing is bundling and making the previous Current Events available and then working on a new set for the new xpac. Basically a bit of AP house cleaning before bringing in the new stuff.

it seems many like them better than the games they comment on.” -Horrorscope.7632
Considering how the Current Events have been renamed as Side Stories, there does seem to be somewhat of a shift, but that shouldn’t mean it’s over. You completely disqualify the Caladbolg quest, even though it is totally a current event/side story. There was an expansion on the bandit movement right before chapter 4 (I forget exactly when that went in), which shouldn’t disqualify it as an event. And now that the next expansion is here, I wouldn’t expect anything new for at least a month or two after it. Perhaps it slowed down because they were helping with the expansion.
Some might be interested in the Dev interviews recently released that speak to long story threads, and how, why, and when they are wrapped up. (See Partner participant YouTube channels.)
Good luck.

This.
And the longer Anet waits to resolve things, the quicker audience retention is gonna drop, people are gonna get tired of waiting, and they’re going to move on. Eventually the entire story as a whole will suffer and people will stop caring about what happens even when and if they revisit something they left hanging.
Granted, I can’t speak for everyone but this is what happened to me. Were it not for the game play, I would have left GW2 a while back.
