Cutscenes like from personal story?
Personally, i would rather have the living world event as dynamic events with NPC chatter in the background, much like the dynamic events today.
Living world events COULD culminate in a story mode dungeon if applicable though.
edit: Or some parts of the living world events can utilize the personal story method when it also call for it. Like when an NPC may call on you to do an infiltration mission together. This would only require one player as opposed to a DE that can reach upto 20+

Cutscenes are the things which i miss… I remember Halloween event when Mad king appear! That was epic!
I miss it in Living story, what have a really big potential for this! After every update, all gamers are disconected from servers. When they connect, they can see cutscene (or when they log into every character!)

It sort of depends what cutscenes you’re referring to. There are sort of three different sort of scenes in game.
1 – The dialogue scenes where two characters converse with one another. These I dislike. It takes you out of the game, and I dislike the feel of only two characters interacting with one another. It just doesn’t flow for me, as I would rather have these sort of conversations occur naturally in game, or have the camera pan between the talking characters.
2 – The in game cutscenes where the camera leaves your character to display an important event occurring. These are fine, it naturally blends gameplay with the happenings of the story. They can definitely do more of these to tell the story.
3 – The full art cinematics. These are my favorites by far. The art of this game is really what makes it so exceptional, and having a display of moving artwork that tells a part of the story is really thrilling. My only gripes are that there aren’t more of them and that we can’t rewatch the ones we’ve previously seen. Also, the release cinematic shown a few years ago that showed the basis of the Zhaitan story isn’t anywhere in the game, which is definitely disappointing.

Hehe, agreed, unless he’s out to set himself up for some terrible griefing
But I agree with OP, Living Story needs to be fleshed out with some cut-scene dialogues, maybe even some in-game movie showing some stuff. And it would be awesome if it culminated in a new dungeon being added to the game with new weapons/armour. But I think I need to restrain myself and not set myself up for disappointment from expecting too much

Most of them feature in personal story quests, or in story mode dungeons, so if you don’t do either of those things, you won’t have seen them.
There aren’t many of them to be fair, but there are some. The scene taken from the beginning of that trailer with Zhaitan waking is used at the beginning of Arah Storymode I believe for example. There’s one at the beginning of AC Storymode and one mid-way through Sorrow’s Embrace story. There’s also one just after you choose your Order in you personal story.
I was disappointed there weren’t that many, but I hope that’s something they can do for the future…add more of them!
You’ll find out soon.
:D Hahaha, can’t wait to see what you guys have done ^^
I enjoyed the new cutscenes. They felt more real, and it was fun positioning my character to stand somewhere in it.

+1 for the new cutscenes. Like them much more than the old dialogue scenes!
I already commented on this, but loving the new cutscenes!
Cut-scenes are really great. They remind me cut-scenes from Guild Wars 1, I miss them so much. I must say, Guild Wars 2 are becoming better. Can’t wait to see what will we have on the future. I heard that this is only a scraping a surface.
I really enjoy the new cutscenes, I think for small dialog this is the way forward. Thank you Anet for doing them.
Just my point of view, I enjoy the GW2 style of conversations but only when they are displaying a short movie: such as at the end of the game or at the start of AC story. They are great and I would hope we see more of them. However for normal conversations I think cutscenes are the way to go. They feel less intrusive and as you are seeing the character in the real world, maybe from a different angle, you still feel like your playing that character.

Agreed, new cut-scenes are good. However I still believe there’s a time and place in-game for both styles though, the old and the news

Cinematic which we have on Personal Story isn’t that good as cut-scenes. Why? Because it feels like you are in the theater with a wooden decorations. But cut-scenes make you feel like you are watching a movie, make it feel more realistic.
Just look at this scene:
Now imagine this scene with cinematic style which we have in Personal Story in GW2. It wouldn’t look as awesome, believe me.
Of course it’s my subjective view, but I’m very glad to see such cut-scenes like in Flame and Frost story. Just like scenes in Guild Wars 1. I like such scenes much more than cinematic we have in Personal Story.
I believe there’s room for both kinds of cutscenes – when you really only have two people talking to each other, without any other people joining the conversation etc., the cinematics from the personal story are fine. However, as soon as there are more people involved in the conversation, any action is taking place etc., real cutscenes are vastly better. In my opinion, that is.
I would love to see the cinematics more. FFXI did an awesome job of including your character into the cinematic and addressing you by your name.
I would love to see more of those cartoon cinematics!

That specific cinematic isn’t in the game. However, much of the animation is used during Arah storymode with Caithe narrating it.
In regards of cinematics like that, there’s a total of 14 in the game – 5 in character creation, 4 in dungeon story mode, and the rest during the personal story.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
I’m loving the direction the living story is going in terms of storytelling. If they had done more in-game cinematic scenes like they have with the Living Story in our Personal Story, I’d have enjoyed it more. The side-by-side dialog scenes can be used on occasion, but prefer this new style.
On a side note, I loved how it took your place in the story into account with the war counsel letting me through on characters that were commander of the Pact. The new characters and event style missions give me a lot of hope for the future of GW2 in terms of storytelling compared to how much I loved GW1.
I finally started the razing content and I definitely think it is a step up from the previous stuff for flame and frost (though not better than sab)

I agree! It was really great to see in-game scenes for the Living Story.
ArenaNet previously used those in GW1 and it’s terrific to see being used in GW2. I think that styles does a much better job telling the story and makes the game feel more cinematic.
I hope this will become the standard for the future story updates. As jblade said, the side-by-side scene can still be used on occasion but in-game scenes should be the main way to show the story to players.

2 months and noting besides lip-flap :/
I can barely see the mouths moving because of the camera distantance… what is missing to make it look like Guild Wars 1? (Fixed camera zoom on the face of who is speaking)
Mad necromancer minions are still a problem? Culing?
Any plans on changing the lip-flap to more realistic movements as the personal story conversations?
sorry for the bump, did not want to create another topic about this subject
I’d love to see more cutscenes like the one in CoF where Rytlock falls

This is the best way to show us the story. Would you prefer all the details to be in chat boxes? Id much rather hear and see whats going down, it makes it much more real, much more as if you are a part of it. I enjoy watching cut scenes, and then jumping in to battle. If you want interaction, its what you do after the conversation.
