I have to say, in the new video that resembles Tursai Ossa and I’ll roll with that assumption for now, but even then I have to say, I really do feel bad for these ghosts. I would never wish to be a ghost under the cosmic power of ArenaNet. Being one, would imply that there is no eternal rest for me, I do not spend the rest of eternity in the Mists (aka Heaven) as my life would have ended. No, under the powerful ArenaNet Gods, I would be forever summoned to the world as either a guide for lost heroes of the world who need a clue or become an undead puppet being controlled to full-fill the whim of evil doers or at the mercy of some stupid, selfish Ascalonian King who still believes he can win a battle that was already lost… for… ALL of… ETERNITY! To die as a citizen of ArenaNet… is… a scary proposition

I use to be a Ritualist and a Paragon in my former life…

Turai Ossa, King Adelbern and their followers are unusual exceptions. Neither of them died a normal death, even by Tyrian standards of normal.

Turai Ossa and his followers accidentally cursed themselves by corrupting the Ascension rituals, Adelbern of course deliberately cursed himself and his people to destroy the charr army.

But the vast majority of people in Tyria don’t die like that. They die from more normal causes and relatively few remain as ghosts. We don’t actually know what happens to most of them.

Humans believe that when they die their spirits go to live in the Underworld where they’re judged by Grenth and given a place based on their life (or in exceptional circumstances that they go to the Hall of Heroes). And based on what we could see in GW1 (where it was possible to enter it) that seemed to be true. But it seems to be closer to the ancient Greek idea of Hades – an afterlife which is very much like life on earth – rather than the Abrahamic idea of Heaven. Particularly since during the time of GW1 the Underworld was going through something of a civil war so it was full of attacking demons – hardly the place for eternal rest.

If I remember correctly the norn believe they go to live with their chosen spirit in the Mists, but we’ve never seen those areas or any evidence of the accuracy of that belief so I’m not sure what it’s actually like.

I’m not sure charr, asura and sylvari have any concept of an afterlife.

I imagine the asura have a concept somewhere between reincarnation and the first law of thermodynamics, as beautifully illustrated by Agents Fitz and Simmons in Agents of Shield: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FGdE5XpaLs

Well what about the characters who cannot die at all? They’re forever cursed to wander Tyria, which they have 100% explored many times over, and kill thousands and thousands of monsters for meager loot. Now that’s real hell on E… Tyria.

The asura essentially have the idea of returning to the Eternal Alchemy – which is pretty close to that idea, really, except that they do seem to believe the spirit remains in some form – while the sylvari essentially think of it as returning to the Dream (although… in a manner that they can’t directly interact with living sylvari, even those still in the pods).

With respect to human ghosts… humans actually seem to have a high propensity to become ghosts if they die with some unfinished business (the Foefire ghosts are a special case on top of that). Those that don’t remain as ghosts on Tyria become ghosts in the Mists – and as stated, that seems to be more like a true second life than an eternal rest. Sending a ghost as a messenger doesn’t actually seem to me to be all that different to sending a living representative – if the ghost is suitable and willing to do the job, why not?

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
