Guild Wars 2

Hi everyone!

I am a Guild Wars veteran and still enjoy the great work that ArenaNet produces. Looking back to the days of the original Guild Wars, a strong highlight of that series was the hands-on connection players had with the studio and the game. I am specifically referring to the “Design-a-Weapon” Contests that were held several times. I believe it was a great way to challenge the artistic players and make them feel part of the studio’s designing process.

Bringing back this popular event today would take the original basis and idealize it. With the improved modeling possibilities that is available through the Guild Wars 2 engine, the final fan designs can be fully brought out. With “Heart of Thorns” on the way, this could be a method to creating a new series of Exotic or Legendary Weapons.

The chosen winners would receive in and out-of-game prizes, including the skin of their designed weapon mailed to their in-game account. That way the winners can enjoy using their own weapon right away before any other player. I believe this talented community would love to take part in this old tradition again.

I’m all for this. They were awesome in the first game.

I think this would be great to see happen.

Maybe not legendary weapons, but regular exotic or ascended weapons (more likely). Contest participants would design the weapon, and the devs would come up with the acquisition method.

I suck at drawing, but I’ve seen many people with pretty sweet artistic skills.

Legendaries, Exotics, Black Lion Skins, anything would be interesting.

I still wish some of the old winners would be reintroduced in GW2. Loved the Celestial Compass

I would love to have an Ironwing Flatbow in GW2! Really though, I want a Runic Blade. (Infinite Light without the particles)

This is a great idea. I aleays like contests like this back in gw1. There are many talented players out there.

We would get another oversized greatsword, probably held by some anime character.

If the old design-a-weapon contest was anything to go by, oversized greatswords would be rare, the previous designs were amazingly detailed and thoughtful. Seriously, check them out on the GW1 wiki.

Wow, these are great, I didn’t know they were fan-made! I would love to see a contest like this. It would be a great way to implicate the community in the future of GW2, even in this small way.

I love to doodle and draw weapons specifically. Id love this, and ALSO would LOVE to see the INTRODUCTION of 2h axes in to the game! They are untapped resources and some of the skins they could produce; call them “Great Axe”s IMHO!!!
