hey guys, i’ve recently been thinking about the living story and how it will progress story wise. I understand that these elder dragons have become a large threat but i feel that politics and tensions between all the races are minimal. Does anyone else feel like Guild Wars 2 needs some more tension between the races? I would love to see a Separatist revolution take place in Kryta where the humans would have to rely on the charrs for assistance. I dont know if its just me but i would think it would be interesting anyone else agree?

well bandits are with the white mantle and given that we appear to be heading to that bandit fortress in brisban with the next patch I think we can expect the white mantles return.
i dont know that they will but they could pull a hydra and have a bunch of people within divinitys reach really be white mantle followers.

Most wanted in game additions: Beastiary, readable books

Here’s an idea:

The White Mantle are in league with the mordrem via the blood stones or something from GW1 in the maguuma jungles. During the story progression, a white mantle member manages to assassinate Imperator Smodur in the Black Citadel. The charr already have past tensions against the humans, and the humans are left facing the charr and the white mantle and the mordrem.

The asura are encouraged by Phlunt to abandon the rest of the races to their fate while the norn aren’t sending enough help when they have more glorious hunts to attend. The pale tree is slowly dying as the sylvari are forced to take a more active role in uniting the races led by Trahearne (who in this case won’t be hijacking the personal story and actually be a great character as intended).

The shining blade helps the sylvari find one of the other elusive trees where their distant sylvari cousins are able to help them revitalize the pale tree by going to the source of all magic within Tyria (possibly what the pale tree’s vision was eluding to) using the help of the zephyrites to gain access. The mordrem start to destroy rata sum and hoelbrak as they spread and the sylvari come to their aid even when they had been abandoned. Phlunt is killed.

The charr and humans are on the verge of war again when Rytlock returns from the mists and he is able to quell the tensions (maybe he is able to free the ghosts who help end the war finally (some ghosts would have too deep a hatred of the charr to be freed and will still be at war)). Rytlock replaces Smodur and is totally awesome as usual.

The races are finally united and they all go to the source of all magic in Tyria to face Mordremoth in a big good old fashioned Tyrian throw down (maybe the source is guarded by ancient mursaat or descendants of Glint). Good guys win, Logan marries Queen Jennah, Zojja humbles down a bit and replaces Phlunt, idk about Caithe cuz that’s a lot of good story potential, Eir does whatever, Rytlock does his charr thing, nobody cares about the biconics, blah blah blah confetti. The end.

These are just my on-the-spot ideas that I’d love to see implemented (or at least something this epic).

Golden shackles are still golden.

Usually when people discuss politics in GW2 I can’t help but think they’re asking for Game of Thrones. Although ignoring this perspective one of the primarily things I feel lacking is conflict between the major races, although this was purposefully set up this way (probably because Anet didn’t feel like having a 2 or more faction system which would not have worked will with the dynamic event system). The issue of course here is how do we as players get to perceive this political intrigue? For example if the Charr and Humans start making political moves against each other, will humans be thrown out of Black Citadel, will Charr no longer be able to go into Divinity’s Reach? If not we’re moving into ludo-narrative dissonance territory.

politics or just conflict? Because if you are suggesting they do what they did with the latest star wars movies and introduce a bucket load of boring politics the NO, please no.

This game needs action! not crap like voting etc – we’ve done that already. boring.

The main problem of Gw2 races and the interactions between each other, is that each one is pretty much fine with each other no matter what.
Of course I understand that the dragons are a kitten big problems and some times you have to put aside racial differences and the such to fight and survive together.

All of this is nice in theory, but if you walk around the world and you see nothing of that on the main screen, not talking about the small individual characters because there are, but they bear no weight in the plot, in the end you stop caring if you’re a human or other. The take on the politics is sort of childish, limited to insults and rage-filled discussions when it comes to different opinions.
The sensation you have when you have feels of rivalry or doubts towards a group or race, and you manage to overcome those even for just that one moment to push back a big danger before going back to deal with more close by probelms is amazing. I felt that when I saw the Wrathgate cinematic in WoW during Wrath of the lich king.

But if individual races show no greed, no desire to gain something that could cause problems to the others, the whole “Divided we fall, United we stand” part sort of passes by as a given. A huge waste of potention that is made even more worth by Anet way to handle the Evil npc counterparts.

Look at the Ascalonian Separatists. I’d say that a war of 250 years, the destruction of a kingdome and the unending siege of their last siege is a kitten good reason to have doubts or anger towards the Charr. But the game handles the question by making the separatist nothing more then terrorists. You disagree with them? They kill you even if human.

I seriously believe this game would benefit by giving more weight to each individual race and their problems and make their needs and desires clash with the other ones, rather then take their unity as a give.

Sorry for the long post.
