First off, I wanna say I’m really excited for tomorrow. I’m not here to bash the season or anything. I just would like to point out that it wouldn’t make sense for a new zone tomorrow. A new zone would be more likely in two weeks, the “next episode”.

Why? They need to set up the story first. Most of the people that are excited already know that it has something to do with Brisban Wildlands. But, what about the rest of the player base? Not everyone is in Brisban looking for little hints or stuff. They need a way to bring and draw people to the zone first.

While a new zone right away would be awesome, jumping the gun right away isn’t always the best. There’s a lot of hype, which is good, but too much can be bad, especially with big expectations.

Also, this has been said before, but no hearts. Don’t expect hearts. They were only added because people asked for them at the last minute (just like the AI nerf long ago, but that’s another topic). And ANet confirmed no more hearts.

With that being said, still expect a lot of content tomorrow. Finish mapping Brisban if you haven’t yet. Less than 20-32 hours left! And don’t forget to spend your festival tokens.

Make sure to remind on map chat too, as there’s bound to be a ton of people collecting near the Bandit Fort.

Look, in advertising you have to be careful about your wording, I’m pretty sure ANet got that down better. You don’t say The Gates of Magumma Opens and then not add new zone(s). If it’s a flub you immediately clarify it. People are expecting new zone(s). Everything about the title indicates plural openings, why anyone would assume differently is beyond me. They can easily tell the story and open the zone(s) too, personal story is exactly an example of that.

They didn’t say that it opens. It’s just there. We need to develop a story as to why it’s there and how to enter.

At the minimum I expect an entire new zone to be available in the next patch (after this one). At the minimum I expect a sub zone (as we saw in the screenshots) to be opened in Brisban in the southwest.

In the worst case the last cinematic shows us how the Biconics cross the gate and look into the new zone. The camera moves over the panorama of the desert and we will see the sentence “to be continued” followed by a black screen.

People will expect it anyways. Along with a lot of other things that wont be there right away, if at all.
And the Forums will explode with a new ocean of hostility and negativity.

What the poster above me said is true. I often find the term “Gates of such and such” to be an over-used term that refers to going to a new place. Whether in the movie, book, or game it entails people heading through the gates makes no difference, as long as it is supposed to happen at some point. This means that it’s meant to either:

1. Introduce us to the storyline and get us prepared to head through the gates during the first patch rather than go through them immediately.

or

2. We will head through the gates in the first patch.

Kind of hard for people not to expect a new zone when on the front page it says, “Gates of Maguuma. Open July 1st.”

I don’t really care about a new zone though, I’m looking forward to possible surprises in tomorrows patch, like new items or something.

Well in this case the wording does play an important part, idk maybe we will be getting a type of transitional zone tomorrow. I doubt it though Im sure it means the season will be opening tomorrow, that is how season premiers are refered to on TV, the season opener.

Agreed, Gate of madness however was one mission, with one entrance (why they called the server gates of madness, is beyond me). It’s silly to talk semantics, but how many double gates have you seen in this game? You simply cannot post ‘hey guys, Gates of Maguuma Open July 1st’ and not expect people to think “new zones”. I Agree too, that this forum is going to light up like a xmas tree on the fourth of July (fitting i guess) if people don’t get what they think they might get. ANet better get this right, it better be at least good enough to quell a good number of people that ‘believe’ zones are coming with patch, or there could very well be a mass exodus.

I’m extremely pessimistic and i seriously side with the fact we’ll prolly be repairing sign posts. But then again I really won’t be disappointed either way.

I think it’s a pretty good sign for a game when picky people are complaining about the wording. “Gates” doesn’t necessarily mean a zone gate. It’s more of metaphor here.

But whatever, expect and hate all you want. Just letting you know, it shouldn’t be a big surprise if there is no new zone tomorrow. Just remember if this makes you quit, mail me your gold and stuff.

“Gates of Maguuma, Open July 1st” is preeeeetty suggestive wording. Not to mention the artwork splashed across the main GW2 page is people walking in a desert!

If we don’t get to walk in a desert when it “opens july 1st” i think people will be justified in being disappointed because of how it’s being presented.

I love how everyone thinks that the Maguma Jungle is a desert. No, the Crystal Desert is a desert. Maguma is a jungle and canyon region. Think the Amazon with the Grand Canyon in the middle of it.

Then it’s more canyon now than jungle. As I said think Grand Canyon area, more stone than sand.

Just because its not a traditional desert with dunes like the Sahara doesnt mean its still not a desert. The grand canyon area is considered a desert, even the Arizona DESERT is also canyon like with more stone than sand but its still a desert, so yes we are going to the desert. Also magumma may be more desert but there are still jungle areas in there too.

The Wastes are further North West, we’re likely going into the zone just to the left of Brisban and many concept arts as well as footage from the teaser trailer shows thick vines.

Actually, i expect an EXPANSION worth of content!!

we werent nay sayers, we were just speculating on what we thought might happen, and what we thought made sense. I have always said I would like to be proven wrong and would be happy about a new zone. We can speculate now and in the future all we want, after all that is why anet stays quite before a patch because they find all the speculation as fun as we do.
