please keep the living story the way its been a story instance. This recent episode was really bad the whole part where people had to do the events was a waste of time to me no one pays attention to the npc conversations. The events just wasted time and were nothing but a complete mess PLEASE PLEASE Anet please keep the story in the instances. For once you guys did something right and now this… Also i it’s been 2 years and we have not seen any hint of an expansion i’ll gladly pay 50$ for an actual expansion and i know many others will too. The living story is neat as a ongoing story arc but in no way possible would i consider it an expansion to the game.

And why should we have an expansion? Because GW1 had them? Because it will add a bunch of content that would be zerged through in a matter of days, and then more QQing about nothing to do. Granted they could have done some of the open world stuff differently, but this was mostly an experiment. To see the best way to implement open world story, and keep it permenant, as well as instanced. I wouldn’t go so far to say it was a fail, but it could have been done better. Also with so many people logging on the first day, all the events were way over crowded, and laggy. After a few weeks, im sure they will calm down, and actually be easier to do.

Agree 100%. I want to see new areas of the map opened up. Ignore this GW1 hater.

You do know that the open world content for this chapter is mostly old content with minor add ons? Stuff like adding another totem or piles of rubble to very old content is not, to me, new content.

Ley lines. The perfect solution to deadlines and writers block. Now in an easy open Can.

^ Truth has been said, nevertheless I really enjoyed this kind of living story.
As Living Story includes the whole world, it includes all areas, events, npcs from the world, drives you through everything, that maybe you otherwise missed while leveling your character/ doing map completition without actually seeing what you were doing.

I’m happy to see that Arenanet just started to include the environment, not just tossing new unknown objectives among unknown characters and locations then destorying them all. They are building on the past, and changing things gradually.

They really made me interested about the future episodes and the movement of the world, even though i lost my faith during LS1.

Hi leviathan!

I think it was an “ok episode” but i totally agree that the open-world/zerg-content was a setback. The instances had felt way better.
And as you mentioned: expanding the game is of vital importance!! Guess what people enjoyed most about chapters 1 and 2 of this season was the progress in story-writing, new maps!, mechanics, monsters and skins.
I would greatly appreciate if there´s going to be an addon one day and gladly pay for it as it would be something more substantial and more satisfying than those “bits and pieces” every two weeks.

^Agreed Its old content hardly revamped just a polished Knob. that part where you had to map travel to frostgorge to go interact with a totem and watch it poof was BEYOND PATHETIC. As a story instance that part could have been really fun i just feel like the longer this goes the worse it will get. 2 weeks at a time is not a good time frame for them to release really good coded content. As i stated before i would drag my family jewels through a mile long road made up of broken glass and pay the clerk 50$ for a full expansions that they spent 2 years on completing. While i sit next to my pc an twiddle thumbs as i repeatedly do the same old dungeons/fracs/jumping puzzles/map completion/WBR/WvW/Spvp. I’m a die hard fan who played since factions owned all the games even played Aion and other ncsoft games. I actively ran a 10 guild alliance and created a community arena net would have been proud of Unlike that other guy who clearly has never tasted the golden age of the guild wars saga. This game has my heart and soul and it’s just killing me inside watching friends move on to wildstar TESO and other MMO’s as guild wars repeatedly beats istelf down with the hammer of King Jalis till it slowly loses all of its players.

Seriously if they did it right They would just release it as a combined package like all of maguuma 3-4 maps worth and to progress to each part of the maps you can only do so by doing the story mode which after each mission you slowly unlock parts of the map forcing you to earn the content and keep you from just fully visitng all of it in a matter of hours. stuff like this could be released in the gemstore for 20-25$ as downloadable content. so for the people who actually cant afford it with real cash and play gw2 because it isnt p2p(yet its growing more into a pay2win) Can just purchase it with Gems they bought with in game gold.

were you expexting major overhauls of the open world in previous areas? Along the lines of the Tower of Nightmares? Stuff that people are already complaining about and should be removed already? I agree that it could have been done better, amd again feel this was a trial run. Learn what worked, what didnt, and do better next time.

Over a year into the LS, I think people are a little tired of the team learning what should be done better next time. I loved the first two installments, but I was seriously saddened by the dragon totem world events.

Halfway through the final battle, I took out my phone and played some Angry Birds so I could enjoy my recreation time. The 30+ players took care of the battle for me. Naturally, I got credit for everything and moved on to the crown portion… where two of the quests were already done for me, just walk up to the rubble pile and collect the crown. Not cool, man. The final battle was interesting, though, and I love the replay achievements. I’m all for “run around and collect the plot devices”, but zergs don’t belong in my LS.

Maybe they are trying to avoid expansions/new campaigns. If you played Guild Wars 1, and I assume you did, then you’re fully aware of what happened as results to an expansion/new campaign release.

Example:

I am a player, I adore Guild Wars Prophecies. Then soon thereafter Factions came out followed by Nightfall then Eye of the North.

I still adore factions… Hmm… I think I’ll go trek Maguuma today… I think I’ll go to Lion’s Arch… grab a group, I need help with a mission…. Let’s go to Lion’s Arch!

{You arrive at Lion’s Arch, no one there… the only sound you may here is aside from crickets is the ocean tide.}

I adore Prophecies… but have no one to play with, why? They’re in Nightfall.

This would not be the first MMO this has happened to either. I have 7 years of Everquest to my credit and as expansion per expansion was release, the original zones became barren. Ever stop to think that ArenaNet may be trying to avoid such a thing happening in GW2?

I use to be a Ritualist and a Paragon in my former life…

I love the Living World setup it starts lore speculations and generate hype for the next chapter. It is completely free!

Living World is free so basically you can log in and log out every two weeks to unlock chapters. Come back next year to marathon all the chapters in a few days and pretend like you are playing an actual expansion.

Well, here’s what I thought of the way the quests were handled. Turning the open-world events into actual story quests IS very risky as the experience is hindered with so many people fighting the same enemy. On the other hand, I commend Arenanet for doing something different (I wouldn’t know if it has been done before but I bet it has), though I think living world events like that would seem to be more fitting if the chaos of Mordremoth’s vines were to have gone even more worse than what was indicated here, basically on a much later episode than Dragon’s Reach Part 1 which I am sure we would face even nastier threats in bulk.

FOR SKYRIM!!!!!

I guess you’re right in a way if i stay away from it for a year when they finish the LS season 2 it would be considered enough content to be an expansion. Idk i mean they have like nearly 300 staff members at arena net but to me it feels like 20% of them actually do the game developing and coding and the other 80% are all interns running errands and bringing their coffee. At one point i was told only a certain amount of arena net staff members were working on the LS an supposedly the other majority of the staff was working on some sort of a expansion. Of course this was just something i heard through the grapevine.
