Dry Top: random musings
Because the whole premise has more holes that an average slice of swiss cheese and Anet couldn’t write a simple, believable story if their lives depended on it??
Why dos Taimi…a supposed genius, still suffer from a simple limp? So you can create all this stuff and a magic golem and all the crap that surrounds asuran teachings…yet you cannot cure a limp??? I mean, I could go on..but you know. AT least give us the option to skip this garbage once we have already been through it!

It’s not just a limp though…
Taimi requires the assistance of a golem named Scruffy to get around, owing to a degenerative disease that prevents her from walking long distances and may spread to other parts of her body as she gets older.
Not only that, while she may be a genius, her genius most likely doesn’t lie in the area of medical science (since she’s in the College of Synergetics, her knowledge lies in metaphysics, abstract systems and cybernetics).
In short, she’s the Stephen Hawkins of GW2.
In terms of the crystals, there is a Zephyrite in town, and there are what seems to be the remnants of bridges (the wooden platforms). Is it possible that they gave the crystals as a way to cross while the bridge is broken?
Explorer Kitabu: “You don’t seem to have any problem getting back and forth across that quicksand into town.”
Explorer Savio: “What can I say? I picked up a thing or two from a particularly generous Zephyrite.”
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.

How did the citizens of Prosperity cross the quicksand river before the Zephyrite ship exploded, scattering it’s crystals in really convenient locations? The region is not without lumber, so you’d think someone would have thought to bridge such a deadly crossing.
The crystals weren’t scattered in convenient places, they were planted by the zephyrites just like how people plant them for you in the story.
Before that? Bridges probably as there are remnants of one.
EDIT: The bridge might even have been destroyed for the purpose of not letting people into the village. They of course didn’t know about the crystals then.
The citizens of Prosperity allegedly owe their livelihood to copper mining, but I’ve yet to see a single copper node. I understand there’s more to this little mining town than meets the eye, but you’d think they’d go with a more convincing cover story.
That’s because they’re currently out of copper. They’re working on finding the next copper vein according to the conversations. Currently they’re dry.
Why did the asura bother to go so far into such a remote location to build a magi-matter-transportive device, but not bother to go the extra 300 feet to build it in the only vicinity’s only settlement?
The waypoints were invented and are probably manufactured by the asura. But they don’t have to plant them, anyone with the knowledge could. During Southsun’s first episode, we cleared the forest and planted the waypoints.
Why is there no waypoint in town? Because they don’t like strangers. They’re dealing with bandits and want nothing else than us and the zephyrites gone. Hence they would not want a waypoint in their town, which is why it’s placed outside of it.

Or you could like, perhaps try listen to what people are saying around you?
It’s all been there in the story.
The “supposed genius” is suffering from a degenerative muscular disease that, as for now, can’t be cured. However they are trying to stabilize and cure it but they currently lack the knowledge. The “supposed genius” built Scruffy for this very purpose, which indeed points to her being a “supposed genius”.

About the quicksand, as mentioned already, there are what seems to be remains from a bridge. Maybe when the zephyrite ship went down some debris hit and broke down the bridge, and the zephyrite gave them some sun crystals so they can still cross while the bride is rebuilt.
About the copper, maybe it’s deep inside the mine and different techniques are needed to get it out… or maybe the whole copper thing is just a front or something, the town doesn’t seem to have all the cards out in the open yet. We do ask several questions to the residents, usually with hostile responses.
On the asura thing, if you mean the gate you see inside the inquest facility, well, it’s inquest, who knows what they were up to, but they might have had reasons not to do it all in the open. I guess we’ll wait and see.
About Taimi, it’s not just a limp, she suffers from a degenerative disease which for now it affects her legs but might spread to the rest of her body when she gets older.
- Are you injured? What happened to your legs?
- I was born this way. My legs were never strong enough to carry me very far. Don’t pity me, though. I hate pity. And I don’t need it because I do just fine for myself.
- I can see that. Can your legs be cured?
- That remains to be seen. The degenerative effects of my condition may spread to other parts of my body as I get older, but for now it’s just the legs.
- How far can you walk?
- I can get in and out of Scruffy when I need to. For example, I can walk from my bedroom to the water closet. Just don’t ask me to be your partner in a dance marathon.
I’m guessing the asura (or herself) would probably be able to make some sort of exoskeleton that would allow her to walk regularly, but I think she won’t because it would draw attention to her condition and she’s too proud for that. She only opened up about it when her golem was damaged and she couldn’t go to get the parts needed to fix it (and Braham wouldn’t go and leave her alone), and the only two times we’ve seen her walk (and limp) were in the celebration at Marjorie’s tabern and inside Scarlet’s room, both when only her friends and nobody else was around to see her do it.
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
