Is there some reason that they can’t just add the Model Zephyr Sanctum to all the tiers of the vendor for the same price. It seems counter intuitive not to have access to this item necessary for the achievement most of the time. You have to catch the vendor right after a sand storm or it’s 45+ mins of time to waste since there’s no way to get the item for Aurene.

You don’t even need a timer unless your time zone is oddly askew from most. The DT cycle is top of the hour start, then 40 minutes of clear air, then 20 minutes of sandstorm. So if it’s in that 20 minute window, hop on over to check the tier. If the tier isn’t high enough for the Aurene item, check LFG for an organized DT.

Is there nothing else you can do in the whole game until you get that one item? I don’t recall if I got the model on my first trip to DT looking for it or not, but if not I just made a mental note to check the clock now and then and go back there if I noticed the time and had a free moment to wp.

There is a bug so the item is only available at teir 1 merchant. I tried popping in from time to time only to find the vendor already above teir 1. The vendor won’t let you buy the lower teir, but you can access the higher teir with side tabs. In Dry Top I have nothing to do so the wait time is excessive where there is no benefit from running around there when I could get other important tasks done. The timer should help so I don’t have to hope to hit it at the right time, just super annoying given there is no information on this workaround on the gw2 wiki. Just a note about the bug.

@Egrimm: what they are saying is that DT is always at T1 at the top of every hour.

Yeah, it’s annoying that you can’t go randomly into the zone to acquire it. The reason they haven’t addressed it is that it’s a minor quality of life issue, with a relatively easy work-around.

I’m not sure it is a bug; it’s never, ever been any different. We don’t know it’s not intended to only be available at Tier 1, or if it is intended to be available only at Tier 1.

Regardless, set an alarm, go do whatever you want in-game, and travel to Dry Top when the alarm goes off.

Can’t you still purchase items from the Tier 1 tab even when you are at a higher tier? I seem to recall being able to do that in the past (granted, it’s been a while since I went to a Dry Top merchant).

No, the lower tier tabs disappear when the next tier is unlocked in the map. You can look at, but of course not buy from, any remaining higher tier tabs.

I’m pretty sure I remember a developer saying this was a bug.

But even if it’s not, it’s silly — there’s no good gameplay reason to force people to have to appear in Dry Top at the right time, unless the requirement is Tier 4+ (as it is for other things). Everything else available at lower tiers is always available at the higher ones.

I don’t fault the OP for being confused. I share(d) their frustration.

All the same, it’s really easy to work around, so I support ANet’s apparent decision to not do anything about it and work on other bugs/annoyances instead.

On my prior post, I didn’t recall that it had to be a T1 map, hence my discussion of the 20 minute window. T1 is super easy to get, as long as you go right after the top of the hour. That’s just a matter of heeding the clock and doing other things during the rest of the hour, or heck, logging in only for that.

It’s certainly far less frustrating than needing a large meta event to happen/fail before you can get a piece needed for legendary progression, or relying on RNG At least for this item you have 24 guaranteed times a day that you can get it.
