Dwayna airdraft difficulty and suggestion
To me it’s the easiest of all new map’s sections, Balthazar’s is the most annoying one due to the moltitude of mobs.

well, for my experience area poses no issues….
as long as you are not tryign to actually reach those two mastery insights
then it is just very painfull attempt to time yourself just perfectly on that single specific chain of updrafts – which is noticeably more difficult for waterfalls because quite a few of importan ones in there are barely – if visible at all in the falling water

This section of the zone is not fun in any measure and is easily the most frustrating content in the game that I’ve encountered in 3+ years of playing. The combination of an air current forcing you in one direction, disappearing updrafts, and uninterruptible artifact abilities (so you overshoot your target spot) are not challenging in a rewarding sense, just an aggravating one.
All of this makes getting around in general or reaching the spider at the top incredibly frustrating and a bit disheartening.
I’m not suggesting all of the challenge of this area be removed but if you would at least make the artifact moves interruptible it will go a long way towards making this area playable. Thank you.
Based on the tips of another player here I found another path to the spider.
Make sure you have a Ley-line organ,
1. go to the Siren Training area and head behind the choir.
2. climb the boat wreckage and get to the higest point of the mast (I jumped from the boat’s deck to the mast)
3. from the mast glide to the slope on the tower next to you, edge upwards as much as possible on that tower (you’ll be forced to the left, just make sure you don’t fall off)
4. glide to a small slope in the corner between the tower and the cliff
5. use the super jump ability to get up on the cliff. You should now be right next to the champion spider den.
From there you can clamber up the “roofs” and move around (or just jump to the spider and get murdered, I guess)
Getting up to the waterfall torqued me quite a bit at first but then I realized I just had to glide around the area where the updrafts that get you there form until they showed up. It sometimes takes a couple of minutes depending on the RNG timing.
I never have the artifact on me for this because, well, I don’t find it necessary or useful.
I’ve seen the Siren Training area and choir referred to in a couple of threads now. Where is that?

south from the waipoint there is a mastery trainer NPC, once you learn Sirens of Orr mastery he offers you teleportation to the area where you can “learn” how to actually use the thing

It’s all about timing. One or two of the updrafts are backdropped by the waterfall which does make them hard to see it gets easier each time I do it. But if you use a leyline boost it can get you high enough to get up there.

I guess you haven’t tried the Ember Bay jumping puzzle then…
I was frustrated getting up to the spider as well. The biggest problems for me were the disappearing updrafts and the fact that several of the updrafts were impossible to see when the waterfall was behind them. This made for about 5 min of frustrated flying until I got up there somehow, but I’m not at all eager to try it again.
One suggestion which I think would make the area much less frustrating would be to give players multiple, easy to access places where all of the updrafts could be observed easily so that players could plan out a route to take. During the first weeks of HoT I would heat up to the Patriarch fight in VB and just fly away from the platform so I could see where all of the updrafts were to plan the best ways of getting back up to the top.

Sit on top of the pipes and watch the sequence.
I am really not much of a PvE player. But I mapped and did the events their(a few times) and it was actually kind of fun. No issue with the mechanics at all for me.
It’s become a platform game. If you don’t like platform games, you’re not going to enjoy the new zone. It’s like the designers have overdosed on SM and have been told they must include jumps, puzzles and glides to get anywhere as that will make up for the lack of actual content.
And by the looks of it, the expansion has more in common with Super Marios than Guild Wars. ‘Mounts’ which are really just hidden gated jump skills….

The Metroidvania was strong in HoT, no lie. I’m expecting the same out of PoF honestly. I’ll be a little sad if mastery points get gated behind needing other masteries to continue, especially if those masteries are actually kind of useless otherwise (Itzel Poison Mastery, looking at you…). But, I expect no PoF zone will be completable without the relevant mastery boosting, just like it was in HoT.

So I haven’t had the same issues in the Dwayna section the past two days and after speaking with my guildmates about it I am convinced that the problem was the consistent lag in the zone. Right now I can fly in the area without being constantly pushed sideways and I have much better control of the artifact boost ability.
Thank you all for your thoughts.

I’m waiting to see exactly what is gated and what the gating is (Adventures?) before I purchase the expansion. Depending how bad it is I might purchase it anyway but not get the Ultimate version with the gems because I vote with my wallet.
Regarding the Dwayna area, I managed to get the 2 MP just floating around until I happened to get up there. I didn’t know about the spider so I have never gotten to it. Not sure that I will because it is very annoying.
