Emo living story love chat gets old
I’m gonna disagree. Loved everything about the new instances; having recently replayed the personal story both the acting and the delivery in the instances was a huge improvement.
Disagreed, and I am definitely a male with healthy testosterone levels.
I think the way they are developing characters is much better. Simply because you don’t like it doesn’t automatically mean it is “terrible” or “poorly done.”
I have to disagree. I like the dialogue.
~Sincerely, Scissors
Yes I am not a fan of the dialogue of this living story and don’t bother reading much. I skip and go for the rewards. Probably one of the worst story lines and characters I have seen in a long time.
Skip dialogue, complain about dialogue that you never read. Sense?
What’s the point of playing it if you’re gonna skip the dialogue? ._.
Dialogue was great in this release. Had several moments where I chuckled.
“Remember The Searing. We never forget, and never forgive.” – Family Motto
I have no clue what you’re talking about.
That said, the fact that you refer to the living story as “emo” and then give us no further details, suggests you haven’t thought this through to begin with.
To me, “emo” means angsty young teenagers. Since I have yet to see any black-clad fourteen-year-olds running around the desert, complaining about their torn and wounded souls, I’m going to have to conclude that you’re nuts.
I’m gonna disagree. Loved everything about the new instances; having recently replayed the personal story both the acting and the delivery in the instances was a huge improvement.
Totally agree with you, massive step up.
Jory and Kas could grate on one after a while though, I see where OP is coming from, not at that point yet, but it could get there.
The only dialog I liked was the “Did she just call us fat?” exchange. I don’t remember much of anything else, except from feeling like the pauses between lines were slightly too long. Maybe people around me just speak faster and interrupt more.
Also did they have to bring kittening scarlet back? I am going to continue to believe that the steam golems are alternate timeline asuras doing, not their kittening GM PC.
The only problem I had with the dialog? party leader can decide to skip it and there is nothing you can do about it! When I got in the area I was invited to a party, thats fine, i like playing with people. The only problem was only the leader could initiate dialog and they decided to skip over most of it. Luckly I can repeat it now
But we got through to dry top I left the party and enjoyed every single character of dialog. There is a reason why anet provided an option to skip dialog, if you dont enjoy reading it you can right to the action. For me dialog is at the heart of the story experience. It expands on the characters, it makes you understand them more and thus better appreciate how they fit in the story. It was all very well done in my opinion. Especially the part where tiami gets really excited when she finds… well you know It was so well done I was feeling excited for her. And when she limped into the room, that was so powerful. Kudos to the writing team and animators It wasnt just a story, everything conveyed emotion. From the humor of the did she just call us fat to the sadness of Taimi’s limp to the excitement she felt shortly there after.
Ohh and on top of that, nearly 2 hrs of story driven content, omg if they keep up this pace every 2 weeks season 2 is going to be beyond epic! Ok I am having an excited Tiami moment now
Yeah I have heard that from other people but you have to have a love for Nancy Drew books or something to enjoy it. Definitely not for the average male with healthy testosterone levels.
Which is unfortunate given the game’s roots. GW1 was morbid in some cases, unforgiving and violent. Sure the art style was honky-dory, sunshine and rainbows, but the prologue itself was amazing.

both game had a mix of dark and love stories. Gw1 not only had its love story but it made you participate in it too. Did you forget (or total skip) the hunting for the birthday cupcake so that Keiran could win over Gwen? That was also humorous in a way too because you know it wasnt really about giving Gwen a cupcake but of the effort one had to do to try to make her happy. What evert did Keiran make? ask you to track down a few things.
Gw2 had its morbit stories too. The Mad king scavenger hunt with each step you get a ghost explaining how they or their loved ones died under his rule. The refugees from Flame and frost with the stories of their losses at the hands of the motlen alliance. All of the nightmare court and their cruel ways which they use to turn people over to their cause.
Both games are a mix of dark, love and humor granted gw2 moved the slider quite a bit on the humor side but it still has its darkness in there.
Some dialogues are good and not that great but Kasmeer/Delaqua dialogues feels like two teens who have just discovered their sexuality.I was expecting more persona from them as they are seasoned fighters now but no it’s just like those teens TV shows.

I can shorten your title altogether.
“Living story gets old”
Some people play for story and some people play for rewards…
I enjoyed everything so far with this living story.
There is a lot more to the dialog than the face value gives…
They hint at a lot of stuff that hasn’t even been fully explained yet, but I know I have my assumptions. Cannot wait to see if I am right or not.
In general I thought the dialog was improved compared to last season. It would be nice, though, to not have an obligatory “let’s remind everyone that we’re gay for each other” exchange between Kas and Marj at the start of every episode.

as a person who generally likes lore and romance, I agree. The entire story feels a little cheesy to me (not to say that’s a bad thing. to each their own. I don’t play mmos for the story just as someone else doesn’t play mmos for the pvp)
honestly I wish you could just skip most of the dialogue. I was just watching a movie through it, and pausing it whenever the action started
Disagreed, and I am definitely a male with healthy testosterone levels.

& just because you think it’s ok doesn’t make it “good” or even “better”. It goes both ways. I certainly don’t see any reason to think the “romance” is even remotely well fleshed out, believable, or engaging. So far it’s consisted of pet names, horny innuendo & a few extremely melodramatic attempts at “caring”(which is just annoying & phoney “i’m worried about you” lines)

Pretty much spot on. Do they think gay people are so simple & desperate? It’s more like erotic fanfin dialog with all the gushing & starting every episode & making sure they fill a quota of text trees reminding us that these characters are gay.

Welcome to adventuring with a couple. If you paid any attention to the story, you’d realize this is par for course.

Right, because of the browbeating & emasculation Logan gets when he’s in the vicinity of the Queen & Anise is just like that. No, they just don’t know how to do couples..

I’m unclear on the similarity you’re pointing out between Kasmeer/Marjory and Logan.

I’m not sure how you’ve determined that I don’t pay attention to the story. I certainly do.
Maybe you misunderstood my gripe. I have no problem with a pet name here or there, or shows of concern for one another when danger is brewing. What I’m saying is that it feels forced. It’s like the writers have a checklist at the start of the episode that they want to quickly recap salient points for newer players, and at the top of that list is Marjy <3’s Kas and Kas <3’s Marjy.

I have just one question for you guys.
Would you want to see more Jory/Kas or more Trahearne? I hate both equally, but.. I can’t tell which one is the lesser of the two evils.

What I would like/want is that Anet take some notes/advice from The secret World writers who are the best story tellers I have seen so far in an MMO.
I’d like less of both, & a return of my own characters, really. It’s weird to be just tagging along behind these people, after the pretty great beginning. I thought the story & options up to the Pact were great – meaning, the dark day when we, inexplicably, put Trahearne in command, making it The Trahearne Show. Now, whether I’m on my Asura or human, I’m standing around waiting for some pretty juvenile banter between those 2. (I like Taimi, however – the other 2 are thus far forgettable, & the couple is just irritating) I like a ‘real world’ field, & when that includes same sex couples, that’s good. (I can’t help noticing that ‘same sex’ seems to mean ‘hot women making innuendos,’ and not much for a male couple, which somewhat undercuts the theoretical PC message) As for Trahearne, I almost feel his story might have been enriched by a same sex relationship, perhaps as some motivation for his time in Orr. That wonderful, heroic Sylvari you meet (who had the sword first) would have been a poignant choice. But they don’t seem willing to ‘go there,’ other than a brief mention in one sylvari start, & I think, one NPC making a veiled comment if you happen to walk by him in the city.
But mostly, I’d just like my character to have a story of her own to follow, not tagging along behind any group. I’m completely incidental, & that gets boring. Taking my mesmer through is no different from my thief, & that’s not entirely ok.
I wasn’t too impressed when I played it. Really, the only character that caught my interest was the scientist dude (forget his name) you meet as an Illuminati in the HQ. It was such a disappointment to have your first real (not counting the skippable tutorial area) zone be full of zombies. Really? The most cliche’d and overused horror monster? I don’t want to sound so whiny, but I was expecting shoggoths and “The Thing” and creatures that would put Devil May Cry (original) to shame. I mean the zombies are created by a Cthulu-esque beast.. but that encounter comes so late into the zone that it pretty much feels like a cop out. >_> Even VtM: Bloodlines grabbed my attention faster…
I agree they haven’t been up to par with the writing but the example you gave wasn’t really better IMO. If I could pick their style, I’d go for some of the classic DnD CRPGs like the Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights series which could own the cliches in their own way but also throw you off when it came to certain events.. not to mention the way they showed a certain character’s descent into evil in NWN’s Original Campaign was beautiful and actually made you feel for them as opposed to Briar’s shoehorn of “OH BY THE WAY, I’M TRAGIC!”
As for Trahearne, I almost feel his story might have been enriched by a same sex relationship, perhaps as some motivation for his time in Orr. That wonderful, heroic Sylvari you meet (who had the sword first) would have been a poignant choice.
That’s awful story motivation. You shouldn’t be thinking “I want to see more gay men, how can I twist the story around to fit it in & fill a social quota”. That’s how they got to Marjory & Kasmeer. It’s just a fan service eRP. They need to stop trying to shoot for some social justice price & shoot for engagin GW2 lore. They’ve shown they aren’t very good at romance, so I’d rather they stop trying. They only seem to be able to make people gush all over one another like a romance novel or make a guy get repeatedly slapped down by a woman & label it a relationship somewhere.
Contrary to what people have been saying they did a far more believable job in GW1 with Gwen & Kiran(even though I don’t really like them), Koss & Meloni.

No, I meant if they want to add a same sex element into their story, they could use it to add something to Trahearne. As it is, he is entirely unemotional & robotic, & yet, somehow still whiny. If they added a lost pet, it would be something. As for Logan, I think I’d prefer that Jennah just turn him down outright & have him deal with it. She doesn’t seem all that interested as they’ve written it. I think they actually did a pretty good job in small ways, in side relationships along the way. There are at least 3 Asuran couples that worked, I thought – very touching, seemed more real, & didn’t seem to be intent upon making a statement. There’s something about this Marjory/Kasmeer relationship that seems gratuitous, more so than did Caithe’s (though in one dialogue, they used ‘my love’ several times, to the point where I was pretty much ready to say, “I think we all get it…”)

yeah with Caithe it felt more normal. It was a background element. Not a slavering focus. With Kas & Jory it’s a kind of juvenile eRP social statement. I wish it wasn’t there at all & they could all connect with the story through their background, not just paw over each other in your face as they slide through the frame of the story.
As for Trahearne I never hated his character, he was just wooden & boring. For me it was mostly his voice acting & slightly wooden dialog. His turmoil was at least connected to the story & he fit where he was. The DE2.0 is like a sitcom in front of a GW2 story.
- people dying all around*
“- ohhhh I was so worried for you honey !”
“- I love yoooou "
“- Love you tooooo xoxoxo”
crazy psycho waking up a kittening dragon
“- neeeeey I won’t fight her, better stay with my norn friend”
Zephyrit dies in kitten hand
“- noooooooooo”
15 seconds later
“-love you lol yolo !”
Those are some great dialogues that makes me LOVE my “friends”. I remember how deep was prophecies compared to that

They’re a very PDA couple, have you never even heard of those people? I am friends with one, it’s worse than you could possibly imagine, especially if you think Kasmeer and Marjory are playing it up. You would shove your fists in your ears to rip out your eyes.
So basically after reading all the posts the general consensus is people hate the Marjory and kasmeer couple because you believe they are pushing a homosexual agenda.
Now let’s take the gay element out of this, what is Marjory was a man. Do you think people would complain on the forums about this couple?
I think not.
I think people do not like Marjory and Kasmeer simply because they are lesbians; I do not see ArenaNet pushing out a homosexual agenda.
They seem fairly normal to me, so why is everyone so upset about them?
Right. Because we only get kitteny over JoryKas and no other NPC/couple in the game.
Except, ya know.. Trahearne, Kormir, Logan Thackery, Sieran, Scarlet Briar, Rytlock, and Braham… and probably many more that I don’t know of yet.
Have you not at all been reading any of the posts before yours, Chase? We’ve praised Caithe, who was the first confirmed lesbian in this game, because she was less broken up over the fact her mate technically dumped her and more about the fact she has to fight Faolin now since she’s a member of the Nightmare Court.
If Jory was a man, I’d want to kick him in the nads too just to get his head out of the clouds and make him start focusing on the task at hand instead of getting all gushy gushy with his lover. Then I’d punch Kas in the face for egging him into it. And ya know what? A punch to Logan just because he’s Logan.
Characters can be flirty from time to time, but they can’t make it their main staple. See Countess Anise of the Shining Blade for an example of how to do it RIGHT.

as a bisexual, I dislike them. because they annoy me. sexual preference has nothing to do with a lot of these people being annoyed, it’s moreso that it feels like a sort of cheesy romance novel being shoved into your face in what should probably feel like a gritty war-story
(edited by ITheNormalPerson.9275)
Part of the hate Kassmeer and Marjory get definitely comes from the fact they are in a lesbian relationship. You have the people who think insist that they would never have a similar relationship between two men, because lesbians make good fanservice (Implying that lesbians can only exist as objects for straight guys.). Or you have people going on about the ‘gay agenda’, as representation can only have ulterior motives.
Then there are the people who are unhappy at any mention of romance. These people have a valid point. Personally I don’t think we have reached that point of too much romance yet, most of the most ‘mushy, over romantic’ dialogue between the two comes as ambient dialogue. I think I might end up changing my opinion if in future season 2 updates we don’t get more interaction between Kassmeer and Marjory and other characters. I would like to see some of season 2 quests involve Marjory and Braham adventuring together, or Kassmeer and Rox.

tbh I think it’s the other way around. I think the only reason ppl like them IS because they are homosexual & it makes ppl feel like hip social justice heroes. If it was a man & a woman most people would be groaning “cheeeeeeese”. But because they are homosexual, the quality of the characters get a free pass by most people because they are afraid to criticize because people like you jump on the “look, homophobe!” bandwagon. I’m sorry you can’t see the obscene level of in-your-face romance novel cheese, but it’s there.
I’d rather they make a homosexual character that is NOT in a relationship or oogling over someone.. It just comes up, yeah, i’m gay, then they just focus on them be a good character.
I’m amazed at how people think gay characters need to focus their entire being around what sex they enjoy. It’s so dumb.
(edited by DarksunG.9537)
Countess Anise, man. Just make them as awesome as Anise…
on the bright side, maybe it’s a set up for killing off one of them. I hope it will be horrible, painful death.
Personally, I really enjoyed caithe and the dude from the green knight story of the sylvari personal story, partially because of the fact that they are gay. and as I said, I’m bisexual AND dislike them.
“you’re a homophobe” is a dumb counter-argument. as far as I’ve seen, no one has said “I dislike them because they’re gay” whilst many have said that they’re ok with them being gay.
you can call them insensitive people who don’t understand that kind of romance, and I would be somewhat ok with that. because a majority of us dislike them because of the cheesy romance aspect.
tl;dr stop saying it has to do with them being gay. it has nothing to do with it.
“Great, I’m a unit of measurement” – Kasmeer

I think your getting your personal agenda and what is actually the issue here mixed up. You see when you are in the middle of a story and are trying to find out what has caused all this terrible death and destruction and multiple stabbings. The LAST thing you want to hear is 2 NPC’s saying “Love, I was SO WORRIED” or “If anything had happened (fake dramatic pause) I-I don’t know what I would have done GASP” also they were talking in the past-tense so neither of them are in any danger ATM
We don’t give a kitten about their genders, their goo goo ga ga lovey dovey is screwing with the story and giving us a bad taste in our mouths. It is out of place in the context of the story as it is unfolding. If it was between a man and women I’d STILL be yelling at my screen “NO ONE CARES, SHUT UP! THIS IS SO OUT OF PLACE”
Keep your love OFF that battlefield, there are times to care for one another and there are times to kitten and start fighting.
The only thing that irked me is how NONE of the new main heroes cared to look into Scarlets background other than the Asura.
I mean none of them though that it would be important to look into her past research? Not even Majory who’s a detective of sorts?
I mean REALLY!?
No. They were all, let’s get out of here, this is pointless.

Interestingly enough, in the case of Logan they constantly brow-beat him because he cares about the Queen & that his feelings will get in the way of Anise’s ill-conceived “protection” But crank the slobber dial to 25 with Marjory & Kasmeer. They don’t know how to do it without going to one extreme or the other.. & both are annoying as frick.
The living story NPCs are really cheesy, like they come from a bad school anime…
on the bright side, maybe it’s a set up for killing off one of them. I hope it will be horrible, painful death.
if this is the case, they need to double up on the lovey-dovey talk till then… make the emo crowd go all-in
